Recent form figures are less than encouraging; however, he does have decent previous form with this jockey. The last race, a classified stakes, I think is better form than the finishing positions initially indicate. Back in a handicap today, receiving a good deal of weight all round and representing a good yard, he could spring a surprise. He has taken a massive drop in the weights over time, and with the jockey's 7 lb claim, he couldn't get any lower than now.

Clearly not the stable's first choice, but interesting he is racing off bottom weight. With the exception of last time, he has yet to have a poor race with this jockey, at least since joining this yard. This one looks good. EW value in a hugely competitive race. He was very progressive over fences last year and has gone close in a similar race to today's. He had a race at Fairyhouse before this, which I suspect was a prep for today's race. He should go well if he has been primed for this.

This horse is weighted to reverse form with Jawahy, and that one is trading a lot shorter in the market. Rising Sky has been consistent at Dundalk over shorter distances. It's the step up to 12f here. Dropped 2 lbs since last time, and the jockey claiming 7 lbs, which, to me, makes this horse a viable winning proposition. Interesting that his last race included a number of 3yo horses, and this race today is 4yo and up, so it should on balance be an easier assignment.

This horse is interesting today, primarily due to the fact he steps up to 10f, which is what I have been waiting for. His penultimate race, in particular, was a fine effort, conceding weight and running against a number of 3yos, so he clearly retains plenty of ability. On a workable mark and partnered by his regular jockey, he should go well here.

A winner of this two years ago, albeit off a mark 17 lbs lower than today. Even so, it's interesting that after a flat race in October last year, connections put him away until today, ensuring he will be fresh for this. Last time he won this race, he had raced several times between the same October flat race and this race, which he duly won at big odds. I really think he has been laid out for this today and, even allowing for the fact he carries 14 lbs more than when winning two years ago, he should be involved at the finish with place claims at least.

This yard have won this race three times previously, and a number of others, with one exception, have placed in the first five. That is an extraordinarily good record, and I suspect that this horse will follow suit today. This is a highly competitive affair, so I think intense examination of form lines is less important than the historical records of connections. Definitely a potential winner, and has some good recent form at the track. At these odds we have the comfort of backing this horse each-way, and with five places paid, I suggest that's terrific value.

This horse has taken a very big drop in the weights over the last 18 months or so, and two races in December offer little encouragement of a revival. However, I am intrigued that connections travel from Ireland for this race tonight, and I also note that the trainer is the owner. The jockey is in good form, and the horse has actually won a race before, so should have enough ability for a c6 race if he can find his best form.

Market indications are that this is an open handicap, and this horse is weighted to reverse previous form with the current favourite, Dandy Khan. That's clearly a major indicator, so I can only imagine that these big odds are due to a lacklustre effort last time. Has had a break since then and is perhaps better judged on his penultimate win here over 7f in this grade, with the first four well clear of the remainder, and this horse possibly not getting the best of passages in the race. Draws nicely in 2 and likely to appreciate the step up to a mile. Anything like the form he showed in that penultimate race would see him go close to winning this today.

It's a brave punter that tips this horse on these thoroughly unfavorable weight terms, but that is what I must do on the last day of this month's contest. In his favour this horse is not overly exposed, so improvement may still occur, and he is back up to 6f after a fine effort here over 5f in a C3 handicap last time. He had previously won over this course and distance, and with Hollie Doyle riding and the number 1 draw in his favour, this horse may well not be the forlorn hope he at first appears. This stable are proven to be able to compete effectively in this kind of grade, so they will know what their chances are with this one today.

This is interesting, as this stable knows how to land a touch in big handicap races like this. I am not willing to write off this lightly raced horse yet. He comes from a very good stable that is now firing into some form, and the horse has some course experience here. These connections did me a good turn a few days ago, and I think they may be able to do so again today. Although not looking what I would call well handicapped for this grade, it looks to be a workable mark given the horse's previous form at the track and at this time of year. Should be there or thereabouts, racing off bottom weight with K. T. O'Neill doing the steering.
