This lightly raced 3yo looks a dark horse in this. A convincing maiden winner moved into handicaps. His last race here looks good form to me in the context of today's race at least. He drops from a mile down to six furlongs, and that last race form indicates to me that it is a sensible move. Racing with just 8st 7lbs for good connections looks good value to win this, as he is likely to be on a lenient mark with improvement taken into account since last seen. Has experience racing in big fields and at the Curragh too, so should not be underestimated.

I suspect that his last race, over today's course and distance after a six-month absence, was a prep for today's big handicap. The trainer places his horses to maximum effect and is well capable of winning these big field high-value handicaps.

One of two horses in this from this stable. However, I think the booking of S. Foley for this horse is a very significant pointer to this horse's chance today. Lightly raced on the flat, his hurdles indicate he will appreciate a big stamina test, and he gets just that here over 2m2f. Looks like he can win this with the stable having won this race several times previously and with this top Irish jockey on board.

I am intrigued that they removed the usual jockey, Rowan Scott, and replaced him with Hollie Doyle, having her first ride on the horse. La Trinidad arrives in good form, having joined this yard quite recently, and the yard is getting good results. I think this trainer may have something up his sleeve with this horse today. Has in and out form on soft ground and plenty of big field race experience. Not exactly well handicapped, but it suggests a big race from this horse.

This horse showed marked improvement over this distance last time at this track with headgear applied for the first time, finishing 6th and in so doing splitting a host of far shorter-priced horses. Tonight's step up to 7f with headgear on again will surely suit and encourage further improvement. Plenty of scope and in the right hands to realize it. Also note that jockey Joey Haynes rides this horse at 21:00 tonight, and it's his only booked ride here today.

I am intrigued by the jockey booking today as this appears to be c planas' first ever ride for this yard. This horse goes well at wolverhampton and I think that,racing today off bottom with a good draw and stepped back up to 7f,this horse looks decidedly over priced coming from a yard always to be respected in these low grade handicaps.

With the market suggesting that this is open, this horse could be a big surprise today. He has had three races in maidens so far, all taking place in the course of one month. The last of those races saw him improve markedly, although the bare result and distance he was beaten do not look too flattering. I calculate, based on the form of that last race, that this horse is around 15 lbs well in at the weights here today, plus he gets this talented jockey's 7 lb claim on top of that. And that does not include any improvement he has probably made since last time. Looks a blot on the handicap here and has had two races around this track, so that will prove useful. I anticipate him winning, which will be a shock to some but not me.
