Progressive across both codes and his latest second at Fontwell couldn't have worked out any better. The winner and third both scored next time and a 1lb rise for Henrietta Knight's charge looks extremely lenient to me. Should be favourite in my book. It is actually 4/1 after the original fav was taken out, which is extremely fair.

Honestly, I think that the current favorite, Couldbeaweapon, wouldn't have won last time if the pace-setter hadn't fallen. RADHARC NA SLAINE improved with first-time cheekpieces to score at Stratford, and he really wasn't disgraced when subsequently fifth over an inadequate 2m4f at Worcester. This trip is much more like it and it's a no-brainer at the prices.

Her C&D victory here last season has worked out extremely well and I've no doubt in my mind that a 5lb higher mark looks lenient. The only question mark is how fit is the five-year-old on her return to action, but the stable seem to be in decent heart at present and she would be my favourite.

A lot to like about the seven-year-old returning to hurdles, effectively 6lb below his last winning mark at Fontwell, which worked out pretty well. The more rain, the better.

Caught the eye on his fourth-placed reappearance over an inadequate 2m4f at Worcester last month and that should have put him spot-on for this follow-up run. Dan Skelton's horses have been displaying the benefit of a run this season, with Cheltenham Grade 2 winner Fortune De Mer a prime example earlier on today. There should be improvement on the cards and Dan sounds optimistic in his blog.

The only horse to give handicap blot Shantou Lucky a race over hurdles, now 34lb higher in the handicap. That was the selection's first run for 295 days, perfectly entitled to come on for that return to action, with first-time cheekpieces looking like a good move too. No idea what the books are doing with some of their pricing at Perth and this is another that they are taking a real risk on. He was well backed on his return last month, but lost all chance when making a bad mistake midway through the race. On his final start last season, he looked a winner in waiting and I like to think he will enjoy the slower tempo over 3m and get his jumping together.

This looks pretty open, but a couple do stand out at the current prices. Starting with AS FAST AS WIND, who was narrowly pipped for second by a rival chasing a four-timer over hurdles last time at Fontwell, with the winner subsequently scoring a shade cosily at Worcester off effectively a 10lb higher mark. I think reverting to 2m will suit the five-year-old, who was a touch too keen over an extended 2m1f last time.

Although the five-year-old made plenty of novicey mistakes, he ran a nice race to finish a never-nearer third behind reopposing winner Superstylin, who warrants respect at the front of the market. Although we haven't seen him since a fourth-placed effort at Warwick, the form of that is really strong. He looked the second best horse that day behind a horse who is now something like 40lb higher in the handicap. I mentioned Sheila Lewis having her string in good order the other day, Iron Dex was just too keen to see out a step up in distance, and if this one returns in the same form then he would hold a big chance.

There is no denying that this race is scarily open. However, I do think that if anything is well ahead then it would be I AIN'T YOUR MATE. The five-year-old was only a neck behind top prospect El Cairos in his second PTP and they looked to be after a handicap mark judged on how quickly he was turned out in his three qualifying runs. He showed his hurdles bow at Plumpton to be all wrong when finishing a good second behind a subsequent winner at Chepstow in late April. Described as 'immature' last season, the five-year-old is just the type to improve for a summer on his back. The current front three in the betting have yet to race over hurdles in public and this yard tend to have their winter horses more forward than other yards. All in all, the son of Yeats has a far better chance than these early odds suggest.

Hard to fault this horse's record at this course, hitting the frame on his last three outings here. Although he weakened at Cartmel in July, better is expected reverting to this track, more so following a wind procedure and the refitting of cheekpieces.
