I am surprised that this isn't closer to favourite. He had too much to do when finishing second behind a subsequent winner over 2m here LTO, who actually beat a subsequent winner himself. A 4lb rise is lenient and I think reverting to this longer trip will bring an improved performance too. Sixty Plus is up 15lb and well worth taking on, while La Quarite is far from certain to prove as effective over hurdles.

I can't help think that they've been feeling their way with this one. Never really put into the race in the rear over C&D recently, which was his first appearance since a wind procedure. A 3lb ease in the ratings can only help and it would be great if they would let him fly like in Ireland as he's sitting on an attractive mark.

Originally had my eye on stablemate Oliver's Travel, but that was soon knocked into favorite. Personally, I think this should be favorite given how easy he has been winning of late and is effectively only 5lb higher than the latest triumph given Fenelon is taking 5lb off. One for some each-way doubles.

I like the way he travelled on his stable debut when second to a subsequent winner at Worcester last month. The eight-year-old would have finished a lot closer, potentially won, but for making mistakes at the last two obstacles. Personally, I don’t think the price difference between him and Diesel Line should be that big.

It's fair to say that I don't get the chance to back many switchers to Olly Murphy as they are often crazily short. However, this ex-Irish inmate is a fair price given his exploits across the Irish Sea, and I like to think he could improve a ton for the change of scenery. The drop in trip is a little surprising. Hopefully, he's been burning down the gallops, and Sean Bowen will make all.

Felt compelled to have a smaller bet on CHARLIE MY BOY as he travelled strongly behind Square last time out - just too keen. Slevin could have an effect if he’s got stronger arms and you certainly couldn't rule out the eight-year-old off an unchanged mark.

I think his latest second at Stratford is strong form and a 1lb nudge from the assessor looks more than fair. He's shown a liking for today's C&D when runner-up before and there is no reason why another bold bid won't follow.

He posted his best effort to date when finishing third on his stable bow over an extended 2m here last month. The five-year-old was given a lot to do, and he's entitled to build on that first appearance for 80 days. This step up in trip is interesting, more so with a first-time visor applied. I remember him being backed in a stronger race at the start of this month, but they pulled him out. Hopefully, that decision will prove fruitful as most of these have something to prove at present.

I've been waiting for this to finally make her handicap bow, although the opening price of 9/2 yesterday was certainly offputting. However, she has now drifted out and I have to give her a chance. Honeyball has a fantastic strike-rate with his handicap debutants (thanks PHS) and I'm sure that the five-year-old was just learning her trade in the qualifying runs leading up to this. If judged on her Plumpton second in a bumper, then an opening mark of 81 looks lenient. Moreover, she's certainly bred to stay this marked rise in distance, with first-time blinkers signalling intent.

Pretty unlucky to bump into Clararose (subsequently went up 16lb) at Warwick and then Skyjack Hijack at Perth (Now 35lb higher!), so she could be worth chancing on her seasonal debut. I like to think she will be ready to go as she was pulled out over today's C&D a month ago and it's really hard to get away from her with mark with Harriet Tucker taking off a very handy 7lb claim. I am pretty sure there is nothing lurking in here that is 20lb ahead of the handicapper and I'm hopeful of a big run.

Going by stablemate G’Day Aussie completing a double at Bangor recently at the age of 12, it looks like the stable are flying again. STAMINA CHOPE is operating off a career-low mark and I have to do her again after they pulled her out late on at Worcester last week.

I don't get to back many last-time-out winners as they are often priced shorter than they should be. However, I was quite taken with how the seven-year-old bounced back to form when scoring over 2m4f here 17 days ago. The right horses finished second and third and a 6lb rise to me looks lenient given how far out she had the race won. The daughter of Westerner travels for fun, so I'm not worried about the drop back in distance, and I believe she has an outstanding chance.

Loving this stable at the moment, something has changed and the horses have improved a ton. This veteran is chasing a hat-trick and it holds a really obvious chance with Jay Tidball claiming a handy 5lb. Effectively racing off just 1lb higher than his ready triumph at Bangor recently, another bold bid is forecast.

I've had my eye on this one since having his stable debut for the yard at Ponte last month, as it looked a good switch of stables. It looks like they have been biding their time, and I thought Mulrennan could have easily finished closer over an inadequate 1m here last time out. Now 5lb lower, and these extra three furlongs should suit. Stablemate Northfield Lake came from the same yard and ran his best race at the third time of asking, and hopefully, it is a similar case here.

This was quite the gamble in a hot race for the grade over 2m4f at Uttoxeter last month. Although she could only finish third after being too keen early on, the first/second have franked the form since. Champion jockey Sean Bowen is now in the saddle and it will be interesting to see how they ride her down in trip. I'm pretty surprised by the price, one I thought would be close to favourite.

Going by stablemate G’Day Aussie completing a double at Bangor the other day at the age of 12, it looks like the stable are flying again. STAMINA CHOPE has filled the runner-up spot on her last two visits to this course and I’m hopeful of a big run operating off a career-low mark. Crazy price in what looks a weak affair.

Often a slave to the pace, but there is no denying that he enjoys it at this venue, with a win and two places from his three visits here. He sits on a nice mark and there are so many doubtful stayers in here that the 10-year-old is just too big a price for me not to chance. 3 places each-way is cracking if you can get it.

Going for a Dutch in this open contest, starting with JAILBIRD. Fair to say that she lost her way after a promising third at Huntingdon in February, but we saw her new yard land somewhat of a gamble with another horse from the same yard at Bangor on Friday (Wudya). So rule this four-year-old out at your peril.

I thought it was a bit strange how we've not seen WILLY NILLY back over 2m4f since his second-placed effort at Uttoxeter in August 2023. I'm assuming that he hasn't been the easiest to train as he's had interrupted reappearances and he was poorly position on his seasonal bow over 2m at Perth last month. It is interesting to me that Peter Kavanagh takes the ride, as I'm sure he would have had first pick over stablemate Malangan and Jailbird. Hopefully he's got the nod and I've read the situation correctly!

The price difference between OVAL STREET and the others does seem rather exaggerated. The nine-year-old is 32lb (27lb with 5lb claim) better off with Keel Strand for 12 lengths over C&D 30 days ago and I certainly didn't think the selection was knocked about in novice company that day. Helen Nelmes' gelding also enjoys an 8lb swing with reopposing rival Stinginhisstep over shorter here in May. Strange things can happen in these small-field affairs and I think Paddy Power's original price of 13/2 was far more like it.

I'm not sure we will see a much better switcher of yards, with the previous trainer not having a winner for 408 days. We saw the eight-year-old finish third over C&D in last year's edition of this race off a 13lb higher mark and I will be staggered if Pauling can't improve him. They can't be travelling all this way for nothing and I'm expecting it to go off favourite.

Looked to hold every chance in a class 2 at Market Rasen last time, but for making a bad mistake at the second-last. The extended 2m4f distance was a concern that day and I think he holds a cracking chance reverting to 2m in a class 4. I think this track will suit his hold-up style and the price is silly.

He really hasn't done much wrong of late and arrives on the back of two solid runner-up efforts at Hexham. I've seen some write-ups crab his record at Cartmel, but he did finish third over C&D off a 22lb higher mark - he clearly can run well here. The nine-year-old also boasts soft ground form, which might count against a few of the others. The price is too big in my book.
