Certainly travelled with a lot more verve in first-time blinkers at Kelso last time, just looked to do too much. As a quadruple course winner, he's of obvious interest here and hopefully the drop in trip will be a positive. Should get a good pace to aim at with Malangen likely to blast off.

Having been turned out four times within six weeks at the end of last year's campaign, I got the impression that KATANA was just going through the motions to get some respite from the handicapper. He endured a long year, with his longest break being 88 days and this six-year-old is just the sort to relish a 220-day layoff. Moreover, he returns with his stable in better heart and over this C&D, where he's finished runner-up twice. Of course he could just be useless, or even need the run, but these are the types you should chance on the back of a break.

Just can't resist having a little stab at Kates Choice, who was originally as short as 3/1. She won pretty cosily last time and, although that race wasn't the strongest, there should be more to come over this trip.

Looked one to follow when scoring over C&D last May and was too bad to be true on his comeback here in March. Last month's third at Worcester in a stronger race was much more like it, more so as I don't think Bellamy made the most of his advantage in what turned into a sprint late on. The eight-year-old just has really obvious claims off only 1lb higher here.

Trainer said he needed the run at Rasen last time, where he travelled well before weakening. The stable are absolutely flying at present and he's on a very dangerous mark.

He made an encouraging stable/seasonal bow last time and has less to prove than most here. Scored at Newton Abbot when there was some cut, which I'm expecting here as the rain gets into the ground quite easily, more so being the last race.

This was quite the punt when due to run at Fontwell recently but connections took him out close to race time. You like to think there was something in it as he's dropped a fair way in the ratings and it will be interesting to see what he can do up in distance.

Can’t believe Sea Invasion is still in here after being outpaced the whole way at Plumpton, not to mention how short he is. BELGARUM bossed a competitive handicap at Fontwell last time, where a wind operation worked the oracle. A 3lb rise looks lenient to me and this longer distance won’t hamper his follow-up bid either.

I question how much this contest will take to win. A 7lb penalty is hopefully enough to anchor Captain Cool. LAKEFIELD FLYER had a nice spin over timber earlier this month and I highly doubt that they would send one all this way to just make up the numbers.

Not for the first time, THE SECRET PEARL travelled like she's capable of better when fourth at Fontwell but weakened tamely. The second duly dotted up against Copper Beach, who is prominent in the betting here. A subsequent wind procedure could prove just the ticket for the seven-year-old and early market support could be well found.

STARLYTE really looked in need of a stiffer test when finishing fourth in a Listed event over an extended 3m at Kelso in March, so it was a surprise to see campaigned over shorter on the following two outings. The handicapper has some her come slack and she is of obvious interest over this extended 3m1f distance. Although not a course winner, the nine-year-old did finish a staying-on second over 2m6f here in June 2024. Never the rag of the field in my book.

FREDDIEMISSMOLLI had some alright bumper form and looked to be going through the motions in her three hurdle outings for previous trainer Debra Hamer. Now under the tutelage of Barry Murphy, the six-year-old has a workable opening mark of 85, with Shane Fenelon also helping with his 5lb claim. Softer ground is an issue for most in here, but she definitely acts on it and the stable seem in good heart at present too.

Having travelled extremely well when finishing third on his seasonal bow at Hereford in December, LIGHTNINGUPOURDAYS looked one to follow, particuarly with how well that form has worked out. This saw the seven-year-old being sent off as the favourite in 26k class 2 at Ascot, where he was too bad to be true. Given the 90-day layoff, clearly something was amiss, and he really does have a cracking chance if back to his best.

Decent Flat horse and easily ran his best race when third at Southwell last time, where he looked to be ridden just a bit too aggressively. He's got an obvious chance in this small-field affair and would be my favourite.

I had a laugh watching the last run of JAFIMGOSO as he was just never trying on his return at Huntingdon in March. I'm a stuck record at present, but a lot of these Skeletor horses have been saved for this new season, they are definitely trying to get a fast start for Harry. This one is chucked in judged on his bumper form and is bred to relish the step up in trip. The price is nothing special, but it is what it is.
