Not sure how much this horse wants it, but he did at least stay on into fifth in a big-field at Ayr last time. He's lurking on a dangerous mark and this step up in trip makes him of enough interest to have a tickle on.

Although he has been stuck in the rear on all three UK outings, LE BEAU GOSSE certainly wasn’t knocked about and ran with encouragement to finish fourth behind two subsequent winner last time at Uttoxeter. This one takes the 4-hour trip north, a long way for just one runner, and I’m interested to see what he can do up in trip off a 4lb lower mark.

CONNIEMAK would have likely been second but for a mistake at the last-flight at Hereford, in which the winner has subsequently bolted up and is now 24lb higher in the ratings. The slight ease in yardage won't hurt her chances and she would be my favourite with Sean Bowen in the plate.

ISABEL DE CLARE has drifted out to a price worth chancing. She just didn't see out an extended 2m7f at Fakenham last time and her previous placed efforts at Ludlow are read well. The six-year-old travels like she will enjoy today's 2m3f distance and there are several ahead of her in the market that have a lot more to prove.

Really interesting stable-switcher as trainer/owner teamed up with Heeztheboy, who won on his yard bow and won another three times to be 33lb higher in the handicap. Previous trainer of RULER LEGEND hasn't managed a winner over jumps and the selection is certainly lurking on a dangerous mark. Some quick price cuts for him already, hopefully there is something in it.

Wor Lad ran a decent race on his handicap/seasonal bow when third at Carlisle. He must have hit almost every hurdle and looked to be run off his feet over 2m1f. He looked the second-best horse that day but tired on the run-in. Up in trip with Sean Bowen in the plate, any improvement should make the six-year-old tough to beat.

Reported to have suffered from foot problems last season, with the trainer expecting him to be competitive off a mark of 102 on his return to Fontwell last month. The seven-year-old appeared to be going okay before unseating at the second-last fence and he looks missed in the market. A 2lb drop from the assessor could prove lenient, more so on this drop into class 5 company. It is also important to add that he posted his best effort over hurdles when separating two 119-rated rivals here.

Just been going through the motions in his qualifying runs, and the booking of Twister (5 from 25 for the yard) really catches the eye on his handicap bow. Moreover, there was a lot of early money on the exchanges for him below 9/1 before Paddy Power opened at 16/1. Someone was certainly keen to get on. He could easily come nowhere, but he's a big enough price to chance.

He travelled with more verve when finish sixth in a competitive class 4 at Kempton in late November, which was just his second outing for Nick Scholfield. Although he proved disappointing when fourth at Leicester last time, the ground was atrocious and he may have just hated it. It's important to note how improved Scholfield's horses are since his decent Kempton run and the refitting of a tongue-tie and cheekpieces, combined with Freddie Keighley's 7lb claim, just makes me think he's worth something.

It hasn't really worked out for Sunday Soldier over fences, as there were just too many mistakes. However, the engine still seems to be there, and she was still traveling well when falling three out at Cheltenham last month. She reverts to hurdling off a handy mark ??" effectively 7 lb below her last winning mark if taking Oscar Palmer's 7 lb claim into account ??" and this race looks very winnable. Moreover, the stable are in fine fettle, which can be half the battle these days.

BREWIN’UPASTORM has been far from disgraced in two outings since returning from a 588-day absence, particularly last time at Aintree when most of the hurdles were dolled off. The handicapper has cut the old boy some respite and this race looks very winnable. Moreover, Sean Bowen also takes over the reigns and seems to like his chances in his blog. Shouldn’t be the rag of the field, top price 12/1. I think Bourbali will be worth a smaller bet at 9/1, I just don't want to tip it up e/w in a 5-runner affair.

Fair to say he's drifted out after yesterday's opening prices, but there are a couple of gambles in here that are lost on me. KITSILANO's latest fourth at Leicester looked a stronger contest and I like how he travelled in the first-time cheekpieces before weakening in the closing stages. You may look at CHEMICAL WARFARE’s last four outings and think this won’t be winning any time soon. However, his mark has receded and is now 3lb below his last winning mark. The nine-year-old has a fantastic record when venturing north, as displayed by three victories at Sedgefield and two over C&D. The fact they are sending one runner this far suggests that he’ll be trying his best and he’s no 16/1 shot.

Going for a Dutch. Although MAURA JEANNE hasn’t proved the most consistent, she produced easily her best performance when scoring over C&D 11 months ago. It’s surprising that we haven’t seen her back here as she won nicely, but her runner-up effort at Hexham in November hinted that she still retains her ability and the ground was too quick at Haydock latest. The nine-year-old has plenty going for her returning to class 5 company and this race is more open than the betting suggests.

I backed Wot You Wearing a few times when under the tutelage of Robert Stephens, but he just lost her way. The fact that his yard is 0-31 with his hurdlers this season suggests this one could really improve for the switch to Fergal O’Brien’s yard. The nine-year-old will be 19 lb lower than his close-up second at Hereford (October 2024) and would take a lot of stopping if rejuvenated. Moreover, they struck with a similar switcher here earlier in the year, and I like that they are sending just the one runner.

Bonza Boy was around 7/2 at the last meeting here (that meeting was abandoned) and this contest doesn’t look any stronger. The Scott horses have been improving a ton for their reappearances, and clearly a lot of other people were expecting the same for his next outing too.
