Jimlis Cave

Daily Racing

100 WIN

@13.00

Jimli’s Cave is a very credible candidate to win the 5:37 Downpatrick handicap chase tomorrow. He has proven ability at Downpatrick, he’s won there before and has shown competitive form over 2m7f previously (including a 3rd place in a similar chase in July). That suggests he has the stamina and course knowledge to handle both distance and track demands. The going will be yielding to soft, which makes this a true test of stamina. Jimli’s Cave as done well over extended distances and if he can negotiate the 14 fences cleanly and conserve energy early, he may outstay rivals whose stamina gives way late. He might be underestimated in the handicap currently, giving him a chance of value if his form turns up. Of course, his recent runs are not overwhelmingly strong, his form is patchy and the weight burden or mistakes over fences could hurt him. But if his rider time his run well, keeps him jumping fluently and the race sets up with tiring front runners, then Jimli’s Cave has every chance to come through and win.

Krak is a strong contender to win the 3:43 at Chepstow. He has already shown he stays the trip, his victory over 2m3f in the Cork handicap demonstrated not only stamina but the ability to carry weight and respond in the closing stages. Despite only four hurdle runs, he has been placed three times, showing consistency and competitiveness at novice level. The switch to Nigel & Willy Twiston-Davies may have reinvigorated him,being fresh from a four month break could mean he’s sharper than rivals that have been racing more heavily. In a Grade 2 novices hurdle, the race may set up with a strong early tempo, which should allow a strong stayer with a finishing kick to pounce, exactly the scenario Krak is equipped for. His known handling of softer ground gives him a potential edge here today.

Bringsty

Daily Racing

100 WIN

@5.00

-100

Bringsty has a strong chance to win the 3:23 at Downpatrick. His recent 3rd place at Killarney has shown he is fit and returning to form and the fact he was a market mover there shows connections respect his ability. He also has proven capability on softer ground in flat racing, which suggests he handles cut underfoot better than some rivals. In a yielding to soft handicap over about 2m1½f, stamina, jumping fluency and race fitness matter more than raw speed. If Bringsty can settle, jump well and conserve energy until the business end, he may be able to outstay horses that struggle late in the ground. Add to that the possibility that his handicap mark doesn’t fully reflect his improvement and he might be undervalued in the betting. The weight is a concern and the quality of some rivals is a threat, but Bringsty’s recent form, ground adaptability and potential to improve give him a real shot. If everything goes his way like pace, ground, jumping and a patient ride, he could very well come out on top.

@3.25

Fasol last season he posted promising speed figures, which show he has the ability to travel well and maintain momentum over a two mile trip. In a novice hurdle, where many entrants are inexperienced, having real hurdle form gives him edge less chance of jumping errors, better rhythm and more composure under pressure. Yes, the penalty and weight could make things tighter in the finish and some newcomers might have upside, but Fasol’s experience, fitness and form suggest he has every chance of absorbing the penalty and outstaying rivals. If the going plays fair (Good to Soft) and the pace is honest, I expect Fasol to get his nose in front at the right time.

Only one start under rules, and that was a run in a bumper at Worcester where he was beaten by 2 lengths in second. The speed figure of that race is above what other bumpers are won by, so he should be the main contender here today and looks the most likely winner.

Captain Cool ran a solid second over the same 2m1f C&D on his handicap debut, beaten just 1½ lengths, showing he handles the track well. His mark of 99 is fair and he appears capable of improving with experience. Under Jennie Candlish, a stable that can place their runners effectively, he gets a patient ride??"Sean Quinlan takes the ride again. The going is ideal (Good), which suits his style, and there’s every reason to believe he can turn that runner-up effort into a win, now more seasoned and battle ready.

Almazhar Garde ran two solid Worcester wins recently, showing he’s returned to form and can handle stamina tests well. He has won at this sort of trip (near 3m) on good ground, so the “Good to Firm” conditions shouldn’t hold him back. Trainer C.E. Longsdon gets the best from his seasoned chasers, especially on courses with honest fences like Ludlow. In the market, he is strongly supported (short-priced) ??" the public respect him. Combine his current form, course/trip suitability, and trainer backing ??" Almazhar Garde is quite plausibly the one to beat.

THEMANINTHEBOOTS has shown he can deliver in handicap hurdles, with Timeform figures indicating he is in the mix when fit and well. His recent second at Sligo over a long trip demonstrates his stamina and that his mark is competitive. Under Gordon Elliott, he benefits from a stable that consistently wins with improvers and targets suitable races. Tipperary’s hurdles track is gallopy and demands a horse who can sustain a strong pace ??" precisely the profile of THEMANINTHEBOOTS. Taken together, his rating, recent performance, trainer backing, and track suitability all align to make THEMANINTHEBOOTS a leading contender.

Renoir carries a mark of 107, which puts him right in the mix on time-form merit. He has shown he handles ground on the quicker side and is well suited by this 2m2f distance ??" he won over 2m on good ground and has placed over similar trips. Trainer Ben Clarke has had horses primed to peak in these novice handicap hurdles, and jockey Rex Dingle knows how to time a late challenge. After his last run (where he may have needed it), Renoir should be sharper now, and off this mark he looks fairly treated if he settles and finds his stride.

Has been knocking on the door in his last three runs. In Goodwood, where he was 6th and was staying on towards the end, this was his first indication of ability. Again in Haydock, in the run before last, plugged on to finish 3rd where the second has won since and the winner won twice since. Last time he produced his best ever speed figure rating over course and distance from a bad draw in stall 11. Today he is well drawn in stall 3 and also drops to the lowest grade he has ever contested. So in summary, this Richard Hannon 3YO looks a very likely winner here today.
