I'm completely baffled by Moostar's weakness in the market today, but I'm more than happy to take the double-figure odds currently available. It's only a fortnight ago that the filly recorded what was close to a career best at Chelmsford, and she must have a great chance off a one-pound higher mark, which is still four pounds below her winning mark at Thirsk last year.

I thought Raft Up the biggest threat was Tom's original choice Moostar, and in the absence of the latter Hilary Bethell's gelding looks a good bet to gain a fifth career win. He's been performing consistently well since winning at Doncaster in June. Although he has yet to shine over today's course and distance, his latest effort last month, when beaten only a couple of lengths, suggests that he can go close today off a pound lower mark.

The excellent James Owen fields five at Southwell today, and all appear to have a reasonable chance of success. It's a bit disconcerting that the two which carry my money have both been significant drifters in the market. No Knee Never went in at Wolverhampton ten days ago on only his third start for the stable. Obviously a five-pound penalty for that win makes life more difficult, but he could have more to offer. If the cheekpieces worn for the first time at Wolverhampton work again, he'd have a solid chance of following up.

The Harriet Dickin-trained mare gained her only win to date in January when having her first run following wind surgery. She didn't run at all badly at Bangor ten days later and fell halfway through her next race when leading. She was pulled up at Ffos Las last month. It's quite probable that she needed the run after nine months off. She will handle the underfoot conditions, and her double-figure odds could prove generous.
