Weak in the market this morning, presumably because he's having his first run since last October. His connections have opted to stick on first-time cheekpieces, and if he wasn't fit enough to do himself justice, I would have thought they'd reserve the headgear until he was. He has a very good chance on his best form, and his odds are now too big to ignore.

This looks a cracking contest and it's difficult to rule any of them out, even those trading at triple-figure odds. Dark Issue impressed when winning at Goodwood last time, and although the draw has not been kind, I'll be disappointed if she can't back that up here and finish in the first four.

A gelding operation last year certainly did the trick as he proceeded to win four of his next six races. He returned from a break with a solid performance at Windsor, and should be better for that outing today. He may still be on the up and I think the layers have got it wrong in making him the outsider of the field.

Had been performing quite adequately in Meydan this year, prior to returning to these shores and running well in a competitive York handicap last month. He is back down to his last winning mark, and Soumillon is back on board, having been unsuccessful on the gelding twice previously. Those defeats came in Group level races however, and he may fare better back in handicap company. He was beaten in this race in both 2022 and 2023, and then in 2024 wasn't beaten far in the Wokingham, all off higher marks than today's. He's no handicap snip but he is better treated than he has been in past years. Interesting at a price.

While I have sided with We're Goosers as the most likely winner, I couldn't help but place a very small bet on Vincenzo Peruggia at huge odds, in the hope that he can get out in front and then hold on for a place in the first half-dozen.

Made a promising seasonal debut at Newmarket in April, finishing only sixth but beaten less than two lengths. He'd obviously improved in the interim when justifying heavy support and skating home by nearly ten lengths next time. Hit hard by the handicapper with an eleven-pound rise, but he's a big unit and should shrug off the extra weight. Top jockey retains the ride and could be the answer to what is invariably a fiendishly difficult contest to puzzle out.

Has reportedly had a few issues, but his connections would not be risking him if there were any doubts as to his well-being. He was a runaway winner of this race last year, and there's no obvious reason why he can't repeat the feat.

He has shown promise in all four runs to date. His latest effort came when runner-up behind Galiyan, looking solid given the winner's prominent showing in yesterday's Queen's Vase. He has undergone a recent gelding operation and also wears a tongue tie today, and could find improvement as a result.

A tout at Group 3 level at Chester in May looked highly ambitious for this winner of a Redcar novice race, but in the event he was far from disgraced, finishing third behind a couple of Aidan O'Brien inmates. He'll have to continue his upward curve to feature here, but that's entirely possible with only five races behind him. He appeals as a sporting each-way bet.

Hasn't been seen on a racecourse since finishing last of eight at Cheltenham in November, his first race since being gelded. He had previously put together a string of solid performances on the flat, including in Group company, so one can hope that the poor run at Cheltenham was a one-off. He has been given plenty of time to recover from whatever ailed him that day and is entitled to go close today on the best of his flat form. A long absence is a concern, but his up-and-coming trainer can be relied upon to have him fit.

I reckon if Ombudsman was in this field he'd be a shade of odds-on. Having run the Gosden-trained horse to less than four lengths in Meydan last time, Dividend could be overpriced here at around forty to one. Today's race represents a drop in class for the gelding, and he could surprise.
