I'm always on the lookout for horses trading at bigger odds than what I think they should be, but occasionally a horse gets my attention for being shorter. Such is the case with Trip To Venice who has shown absolutely zilch in three races on turf and yet barely makes the double figure odds category. He switches to an artificial surface today, ventures into handicap company for the first time, and has headgear fitted for the first time, all possible sources of improvement. Ignore the form book and follow the market signals.

Not so much drifted like a barge but more roared out like a speedboat in the betting this morning, was as low as 11/2 at 08:00 this morning and currently 18/1 with Bet365. Unless one of the gelding's legs has ended up in my lunchtime mince and dumplings I can't understand why. It was only last month that he won at Hexham then put in another fine effort eight days later, so it shouldn't be a fitness issue. Form of his win has been franked by the runner-up and the third placed horse finished third at today's track two days ago. Perhaps the drift has been because of the market strength of others, but I'm happy to oblige the layers at his inflated odds.

Only turf win to date came over six furlongs at Naas as a 3-y-o but has been campaigned predominantly over a mile of late, gaining a further two wins on Dundalk's polytrack surface at today's trip. Took a hike in the ratings following the second of those wins but posted two commendable efforts off her revised mark towards the end of last year. Put in an eye-catching run at Leopardstown when returning from six months off, and should be perfectly primed for today's task.

Made a successful handicap debut at Warwick last May but struggled to match that form in five subsequent races, including two runs over fences in which he raced poorly and was pulled up. He looked much more like it last time out when back over hurdles and equipped with blinkers for the first time, he finished second to a well handicapped rival, who franked the form next time out by finishing a narrow second off six pounds higher. A very capable conditional takes off seven pounds and he looks sure to go well.
