Confirmed front-runner who has been running well all season and is likely to lead from the front, which has been key this week. He has been staying on at the end of his 2m races and ran well in the Fred Winter last year. He could improve for the step up in trip.

Last three seasons he has had similar campaigns. He doesn't show much during the winter on soft and heavy ground, then comes to Cheltenham and absolutely hacks up. This third year he's repeated what he did during the winter, and now we wait to see if he wins well at Cheltenham again. If he repeats the form of his last two visits to Cheltenham he will win. It's worth noting what a performance his first win at Cheltenham was. Last year was not a one-off. Good noises from the stable, and I can see him bounding clear after the last.

Ran really well in the Gold Cup two years ago and has a good Cheltenham record. He likes good ground and to be up with the pace, which has proved vital this week. His ratings this year suggest that he retains all his ability. While well beaten by one of the favs last time, that was on heavy ground and his jumping suffered. With better ground, I can see him going close.

Lots in contention here but I will take a chance that Ndaawi can deal with the increased rating. He has an excellent Cheltenham record with placings in two festivals. His running style is to be prominent, so that should help, as this week has been dominated by those up front. He was only beaten by Pretty Much a Good Thing last year. I can see him being upfront, coming into the turn leading, and holding on this year.

Have gone for his stablemate as the win selection, but I can't leave this one out. He wasn't most fancied for the yard on his hurdle debut for the trainer, but he responded really well from the final hurdle, and the form of that race is strong. He showed some inexperience that day, so he could have further improvement.

Matata is a value at a large price, based on his penultimate run at this venue where he beat Il Risotto by a long way while giving him loads of weight. That puts him in the 160s-plus on ratings in my view. He's officially 160 but has been higher, and I think he's mid-160s. He loves this track, finished fourth in the best Arkle seen in the last few years, and should be a much lower price.

Trainer has won this twice in five years, and the horse has a very similar profile to last year's winner. The runners are all pretty close on RPR, and the trainer's record here is a strong factor.

Has run well in the last two Festival meetings. Was 5th in this race two years ago and then ran a really good race when not beaten by much in the Stayers last year. Was very close coming into the straight. This race is slightly shorter in distance and seems suited by a decent surface. Worth noting the race from two years ago had a couple of very high-class hurdlers, and form from that looks good now.

Comes here with a win albeit a little fortunate in thystes, was also 4th in paddy power behind some good ones and the second looked like going close today until falling at last , isn't far behind on rpr , and most important is that he has big field experience as this is a large field for a race that has sometimes had few runners, unless someone sets off fast at beginning this will run like a 3 m handicap with lots of race management needed

The trainer doesn't generally run unless he thinks they have a chance. Is very close on RPR to a number of much better-fancied ones, some in single figures.

He has run two very good races at Cheltenham. Most notably, he ran at this meeting when he finished third in one of the novice chases. A slight downside is his trainer doesn't tend to do well in handicap chases here. The horse hasn't been in the greatest of form, but that was on soft or heavy ground. With the expected good ground, he should show much improved form, and last year's run suggests he will go very close.

I think this race is pretty open. Three main favourites all would prefer a longer trip and softer ground, in my view. Last year's winner has every chance, but take a chance on a young horse who is the perfect age and who won the big Newbury Hurdle. He did so in simply amazing fashion. The soft ground may have affected a few, but he finished 15 lengths clear of second and over 30 clear of all others. That was probably the performance of a mid-150 rated horse, which puts him in the mix and suggests he could still be improving. The favs are known to suffer cold spots during their races when it goes too quick, and I think this selection may well not be coming back to them.

The trainer has won three of the last four races, including a win with the same horse two years running. He comes back this year with last year’s winner, who won by 11 lengths off a mark of 127. He comes here today with a mark of 142, but watching last year’s race he won with so much in hand that this higher mark seems feasible. He hasn’t shown much recent form, but his last run was promising until he possibly didn’t stay the longer trip, having not particularly settled. A fast pace at the favored distance on ground that suits should see a much improved showing.

Was a top-class hurdler who had some decent form as a novice and ran in this race last year, finishing 7th. However, he made a whole load of jumping errors, which he doesn't usually do. He was only beaten 20 lengths by a good winner last year. He comes here 2 lb lower than last year and ran a great race in the Paddy Power Chase at Xmas, second only to the favourite for the cross-country chase. For an each-way chance in the first, I will take this one. He comes here in form, having won a handicap last time in excellent style, powering clear. That form leaves him with something to find still, but he was powering away at the end and put many lengths between him and others in a matter of a few strides. The other positive is his trainer, who has won this and had a second, so he knows what this race takes. His style of running at the end suggests he will stay on up the hill.

Typically this race goes to a horse who has already scored a high RPR and who comes here with a win last race. Sober Glory has achieved an RPR that is nearly the best in this race, and he has achieved the best top speed rating of all. He has done this without really coming off the bridle in his two most recent runs, and last time won by nearly thirty lengths. Likely to set the pace here and could have a few of them stretched and jumping tested. Still open to improvement in this more competitive race.
