The unbeaten Bow Echo was very impressive in the 2000 Guineas at Newmarket (1m, Good to Firm), travelling strongly before beating the 120-rated Gstaad by 2¾ lengths, who has since gone on to win the Irish 2000 Guineas. Rated 126, the selection is 6 lbs clear of that rival on official ratings and can be expected to confirm that form today. He is seen to best effect off a strong gallop, and he looks likely to get that here, with the ground forecast to be on the quicker side ??" also a big positive. This will be his first race at this track. Whilst his previous two starts have been over the straight mile at Newmarket, he handled the left-handed track at Haydock on his second start very well. He will be going right-handed today, but he is a well-balanced three-year-old with a good temperament and will most likely handle the configuration well. In addition, the manner in which this colt finishes his races suggests he will relish the stiffer finish at this track. He sets a clear standard, and whilst there will be no big prices about this runner, he looks like a solid proposition.

Overpass

Daily Racing

50 WIN

@+300

Lose

-50

Australian raider Overpass has been given an official rating of 116 on his first start outside of his homeland. That puts him 1 lb inferior to the top-rated runner in this field. A winner on five of his first eight career starts, including wins in Group 1 and Group 3 company, this gelding has failed to win as a six or seven-year-old. He was last seen finishing fourth over 6f at Randwick in a Group 1, two lengths behind the winner. He got tired late on that day on ground that was much softer than what he will experience here. Therefore, the drop back to 5f on a much quicker surface should see him in a better light. This runner is drawn in stall 19, which is not ideal considering the low draw bias over this trip, particularly on drying ground. However, the calibre of opposition he has faced in Australia appears to be much better than this European crop of sprinters, and he could well prove to be too classy for these.

Notable Speech

Daily Racing

50 WINNB

@+175

Lose

-50

Rated 125, Notable Speech is the joint top-rated runner in the field alongside stablemate Opera Ballo. The slight concern for this five-year-old is that he has disappointed in his two previous appearances at this track and was beaten by Docklands in this race 12 months ago. However, he enters this year's race in significantly better form, having secured victories in three of his last four outings, most recently triumphing in the Group 1 Lockinge Stakes at Newbury (8f, Good, Good to Firm in places). He cleared away off a strong pace to win by 2 lengths that day, with the re-opposing More Thunder back in second. The forecasted going is similar for this race and is ideal for this son of Dubawi, who possesses a very quick turn of foot. The yard have also found a good vein of form with four winners from 11 runners over the past 11 days (strike rate: 36.36%), yielding a level-stakes profit of +1.95. Charlie Appleby has three runners in this race, of which First Conquest is a rank outsider. He, along with Opera Ballo, looks a potential pace setter in this race, which could set it up nicely for the selection.
