With a mark of 159, IMPOSE TOI is top-rated in this field and is 3 lbs clear of his nearest rival (Strong Leadfer). He has beaten that rival twice, including the Grade 1 Long Walk Hurdle (3m, Good to Soft, soft in places) last time out. This Nicky Henderson-trained eight-year-old started in a handicap this season, winning by 3¼ lengths off a mark of 148 before winning a Grade 2 at the first time of asking and then the aforementioned Grade 1 Long Walk Hurdle. He’s a very smooth traveller who doesn’t seem to want to do a great deal in front. There does appear to be plenty of pace in the race, which will help in that regard. The trainer has been in excellent form over the past 14 days, securing six winners from 22 runners with a further three placings. That yields a strike rate of 27.27% with a level-stakes profit of +38.53. Nico de Boinville has ridden this gelding on all three occasions this season, and he too is in good form, with two winners from six rides over the past 14 days, yielding a strike rate of 33.33% and a level-stakes profit of +16.80.

This race is seen by most as a match between the unbeaten Sir Gino and the Turners Novices' Hurdle champion The New Lion. That is clearly the most likely outcome, but with The New Lion coming off a fall last time out and Sir Gino facing ground described as heavy for the first time, it might be worth taking a chance on NEMEAN LION, who rated 151 and could be the beneficiary of a soft lead. Sir Gino took a keen hold last time out, and The New Lion did not enjoy being left in front in the Fighting Fifth either. The selection tracked The New Lion into the race in the Fighting Fifth and, while not able to get on terms with the front two that day, did stick on well to finish third. A more aggressive ride may be the order of the day this time, and at such a big price he could be the value play with the top two taking a big chunk out of the market.

The lightly raced SPILLANE’S TOWER makes a return to fences for the first time since April of last year, having had just two starts over hurdles since. This eight-year-old finished 8¾ lengths behind El Fabiolo over 2m4f at Punchestown back in December (Yielding, yielding to soft in places). He kept on well enough over a trip far less than ideal. Having had that run, he should be seen to much better effect back over fences and back up in trip to 3m1f. His previous win over fences came over a similar trip when winning the Irish Champion Novice Chase (3m2f, Yielding, good to yielding in places) at Punchestown in 2024. Rated 164, he’s well treated by getting 6 lbs off two of his four rivals here. There is a strong likelihood that this will be a strongly run race, and that should suit the selection, who has shown he can see this trip out strongly, particularly on testing ground. This is his first trip to Cheltenham, but he looks the sort who will relish the demanding nature of the finish, and he can be expected to be tough to beat.

JARRIVE DE L’EST was 4¼ lengths behind the re-opposing Final Orders when second over C&D (good) last month. That was his first start for this yard after a 264-day absence. He’s 6 lb better off with that rival today, and with a run under his belt, he can be expected to reverse that form. This gelding's prior form in France was good. He won five times in 12 starts over fences, with two of those victories coming in cross-country events. All of those runs in France were over distances shorter than 3 miles. However, he handled the step up to this trip well last time, and the softer ground today could see further improvement. That last effort came off a mark of 123. He is up to a mark of 126 today, but he looks like a progressive seven-year-old, and it would be no surprise to see him take the spoils today.

With six starts over hurdles, JAGWAR secured his only win off a mark of 119. However, since his switch to fences last season, this gelding has shown significant improvement. He won on his chasing debut in a handicap off a mark of 118. He then won three of his next four starts and rounded off last season by winning the Plate (2m 4f, Good to Soft) at the Cheltenham Festival off a mark of 139. He started this season on a mark of 148 when third over C&D (Good to Soft). He was left with plenty to do, having been ridden patiently throughout. He ran on strongly to finish 1¾ lengths behind the winner that day and left the impression that he could have finished closer if asked earlier. He can be expected to come on for that run, and a 1 lb rise in the weights ahead of today looks fair. He should take plenty of stopping. (NB).

TENTER LE TOUT has won both starts over hurdles, with the most recent start being a Grade 2 juvenile hurdle, which he won by seven lengths. The second that day went and won by 12 lengths next time out, so that form has worked out well. The fillies' and mares' allowance means that she is receiving weight from all but two of her rivals today and looks well treated as a result. There's plenty of pace in this race, which should ensure a strongly run contest. The forecast testing ground should suit the selection, as she is a filly who travels strongly through her races. She is a progressive sort who can take another step forward today.

BARLOVENTO has been a model of consistency for the Olly Murphy yard, winning in three of his seven career starts and never finishing out of the placings. He hadn’t been seen for 300 days before this season's reappearance, having had wind surgery in the interim. He ran well on his comeback, finishing second (½ length) in a handicap chase (2m 4f, Good to Soft, Good in Places), where the first three have all since won. That effort was off a mark of 117, and he was able to win next time out off a mark of 121. The handicapper has given him a further 4 lb rise to contend with today, but he looks like a progressive seven-year-old, and with testing ground forecast, he looks likely to get his ideal conditions. The yard has been in excellent form, with a strike rate of 22.86% (35 runners, 8 winners, 12 placed) over the past 14 days, yielding a level-stakes profit of +8.98. Champion jockey Sean Bowen aboard is always a positive, and it would be a surprise to see this one not make his presence felt now upped in class.
