Did not find the ground to its suitability or trip to its suitability every run since. The better runs have always come when the ground is dry and the trip is short. It may not get the full conditions to suit, but it is still worth a try with the mark falling and the conditions easing.

This is a classier horse than most of the horses in the field, but has lost its way significantly. To the extent that it is taking on a trip it has never tried before. However, with Callum Shepherd in the saddle, it may be triggered and help restore its group days.

Another one for the Gardner yard here. He is a C&D winner and actually won this exact race last year. He was a narrow runner-up over the hurdles at Chepstow 21 days ago and is clearly in the nick.

A peak example of a high-risk, high-reward horse. If I look at the pedigree, he has blue blood running across the board with relations to group winners. However, with the handicap mark at 60, he showed his temperamental side in the last run. I hope the claiming jockey can overcome that today. If he does, then I am sure he will win going away.

He is the one to beat as he bids to shed his maiden tag for Donald McCain. This 8-year-old gelding is the model of consistency in three starts over hurdles, hitting the frame every time. His most recent effort at Catterick was his career best. I'm not sure whether the drop in trip will suit or not, but with Brian Hughes in the saddle, we might have a winner.
