The yard hasn’t really got going yet, likely due to the unusually quick ground, but this 7yo gelding is one I’ve had in the tracker for a staying trip. He’s had just five runs over fences and has shaped well each time without getting his head in front. He proved he stays when running over 3m5f at Windsor and should be even stronger for another year’s maturity. The stable often have them ready first time out, so this looks the right day to catch him.

He travelled smoothly throughout, moved into contention turning for home, and stayed on strongly to grab fourth. That run hinted at plenty more to come and marked him down as one to keep firmly onside going forward.

He now makes his seasonal reappearance, but that’s no concern ??" he’s gone well fresh before and the step up in trip looks a natural progression, having finished strongly over shorter last time.
Tom Broughton retains the ride and takes a valuable 5lb claim, which could prove crucial. He knows the horse well after guiding him to that Uttoxeter victory and the partnership looks worth keeping on side again.
If the wind op has truly unlocked further improvement and the extra distance brings out even more stamina, another big run looks very likely.

Emotional Roller is a 7-yo gelding who shaped with real promise on his seasonal reappearance when finishing 2nd at Sedgefield. He never looked entirely comfortable that day and was niggled along for much of the contest, yet he stuck to the task well and stayed on late ??" a run that can be marked up.
He now drops into a conditional jockeys’ race and Peter Kavanagh, who knows the horse well, retains the ride, which is a plus. A C&D winner, he should also be much happier on today’s quicker ground, which may have been the reason he couldn’t travel smoothly last time.

Alan King won this race with Elgin a few years back, and he’ll be hoping Castle Carrock can follow suit. His novice hurdle success at Sandown looks solid form, with Diva Luna ??" who finished behind him that day ??" winning impressively in a Listed chase only a few days ago. Kap Vert, who reappears on Friday, also ties into that strong line of form. He ended last season highly regarded, earning entries in a Grade 2 at Kelso and a Grade 1 at Ascot, which speaks volumes for his potential. I do think the current price is a cracking each way bet with trust on fitness first time up.

Ran well here in June despite meeting trouble in running when turning for home. She stayed on strongly to finish fifth and shaped better than the bare result suggests. If fit and ready after the break, she looks capable of getting involved.

He’s taken well to chasing, and his third-place finish in a strong handicap chase on seasonal reappearance was an excellent effort. That came over 2m4f, and the step up to 3m1f looks ideal ??" he ran a cracker over this trip when finishing third in a £75,000 handicap hurdle at Aintree. With that run under his belt, he should be spot on to go close here.

A seasoned campaigner who’s usually seen competing in much hotter company now takes a notable drop into a veterans race and has slipped to a very workable mark. His back-class is clear to see, including a strong 4th over this C&D on soft ground in the Paddy Power Gold Cup two years ago. He tends to run well fresh and today’s assignment looks far less demanding than the level he’s been tackling. With conditions to suit and the handicapper giving him every chance, he has a great opportunity to get back on the scoresheet.

I tipped a stable runner yesterday who was only just denied, so I’m hoping to go one better today with Scarface, who looks interesting stepping up in trip. It’s not the strongest renewal of the Badger Beers, with just seven runners ??" and four of those are ten-year-olds.
Scarface still has to prove his stamina, but he shaped as though this distance would suit when staying on strongly to win over 2m5f on heavy ground last time. With conditions now better suited and carrying a lowish weight, he looks well treated. He’s a consistent type too, winning 4 of his 14 chase starts and placing in 7, so a bold run looks on the cards.

I'm not sure how soft the ground will get at Exeter. So, this lad, if it stays good ground, could surprise. Plenty of competitive runs on the flat with these conditions, and all his wins have had 'good' in the description. He was consistent last year, so I'm hoping he will improve for his second season chasing with a stable who do well at this course.

The stable is in great form with 2 winners from 3 yesterday. Oakleys Way ran well here last time, finishing second behind a horse who went on to run well again in a better race next time. That was his first start of the season, so he should be sharper. A lot of these are much more exposed than him. He's definitely a higher-rated horse than 98. It just depends if today is his day, with this only being his 3rd start over hurdles.

Crystal Spring has drifted since the prices opened up. However, I feel she has an each way chance with some nice form behind her. The trainer excels at this track with his handicappers, especially the hurdlers with 4 wins from 5 runners. This race is the grey filly's biggest test, but like all of these, she's open to improvement.

I loved this chap's win last time out against the Tom Lacey runner Marlacoo, who looks progressive and a thorough stayer. So, to beat that horse and stay strongly to the line tells me that this horse is talented and on an upward curve. Gets a nice weight and has a great chance upped in class.
