Music Society hasn't won for the best part of two years and his mark has crashed downwards because of that. However he has some very smart back form and despite his advancing years may still have one or two good performances in him. Tim Easterby has a knack with these old boys so I wouldn't think Music Society is ready for retirement just yet. To win this very competitive sprint is asking a lot but a place might not be out of the question.

Here's another shallow looking race despite the field size and has within it a horse who looks primed to run a big race. Blow Your Horn has ran respectably in two races over shorter trips this season and should be up to the step up in distance. He comes from the in form stable of Ian Williams and has a very competent amateur on board in Alex Chadwick. The trainer has a very good record with hurdlers who mix jumping and flat racing and this one looks a prime example of that.

This is a very weak looking handicap with a number of them badly out of form. There is no obvious reason for confidence in Strangerontheshore however I think he may be capable of better than he's shown recently. The main reason for my hope is down to his previous runs here at Doncaster along with is reducing rating. Nigel Tinkler is well capable of landing a winner at a big price and some of his horses have run well lately. It's an obvious risk but you never know.

Eternal Sunshine has struck form in her last two races when looking a progressive sprinter at this level. She won at Thirsk and then here with something in hand and is a filly who should be followed until beaten. Given she is a purely sprint bred horse her three year old career (unraced at two) looks very bizarre when studied. After debuting over five furlongs she was raced in a mile and a half seller at Musselburgh, then a mile maiden at Newcastle. Unsurprisingly she made absolutely no show in either of those races and appears to have been campaigned at entirely the wrong trip for whatever reason. Connections have now placed her at her correct trip now that she has developed fully.

The course, distance and going all look just about right for Ravenscraig Castle however he has been in the worst of form this season and possibly just doesn't care for racing any longer. He was good enough to finish third in the Melrose at York three seasons back and was still competing well at this time last year. His mark has collapsed because of his form and, taking today's claimer's five pound allowance into account, he's effectively running off a mark of 69. If he can't beat this field off that mark there really isn't much hope for him. Shay Farmer takes the ride and he has looked a very tidy rider on the opportunities he's had.

A few interesting runners in this handicap where the likely outcome is one of the lightly raced three year olds coming to the fore. Ralph Beckett won the race last year with a horse with a very similar profile to Ciro Di Marzio. This one has just had the one run so far this season and was quite fresh. This is a race which in recent times has been won by horses who are pretty near Group class. I don't think there's a pattern horse in the race this year however it doesn't make finding the winner any easier. Johnny Murtagh has a fair record with the horses he sends to Britain and Take Heart represents him in this handicap. Take Heart is relatively lightly raced so should be open to a bit of improvement. He has one very good run in a big field handicap to his name which will be helpful. The ground should be fine and the application of cheekpieces could help his chances. The only negative is the high draw but Ben Coen is a good jockey and can hopefully get a good pitch in the early stages.

This is a very competitive handicap and I'm going to go with JKR Cobbler who ran too badly to be true at Carlisle last time. He had won at the same track before that on seasonal debut but raced way too keenly over a trip that is possibly too far for him. Flavor hasn't showed much in four runs but there has been the odd flicker of hope at times. Interestingly she was tried at this trip on her final run at two which suggests the trainer feels this could be her kind of trip. She was raced over seven furlongs on seasonal debut and ran on a little towards the finish there. This looks a very poor race so an each way nibble might see a return.

The time before on the same track he looked like a sprinter worth following, winning a competitive race with something in hand. William Haggas generally does well at Newcastle and I'm prepared to overlook the last run and hope for a much more positive outcome today.
