Cargin Bhui

Daily Racing

50 WINNAP

@13.00

Lose

-50

At the price, I think Cargin Bhui is worth having an interest in, in what looks like a very tricky sprint handicap. He's only four and probably has more potential than most of these exposed handicappers. The yard is very adept at placing their horses and absolutely knows the time of day. Significantly, Joe Fanning takes the ride today, and he has won and finished second twice from the three times he's been on board. No one rides Hamilton better than the veteran jockey, so hopefully, this is the day for Cargin Bhui.

@7.50

This is an interesting fillies handicap, and the form of the top weight looks strong after the filly she beat at Carlisle last time won very nicely at Chester on Friday. That winner isn't the only winner to have come out of the Carlisle race. If that was good form, I think we can look with interest at Zapphire's previous race at Ascot, which in my mind was the best performance of her career. Roarin' Success was quite close up behind Zapphire that day and is five pounds better off with her here. Given that was only Roarin' Success's second start of the season, she is entitled to step up on that. She looks a little overpriced compared to the favourite and warrants a little interest.

Richard Fahey has struck form with a vengance in the last week or two, and looks like having a first class chance with the progressive Musical Touch. He ran well here in mid May over a furlong further, fading only in the last 200 yards. Back to six furlongs, with the useful five pound claimer, Cian Hogan on board, Musical Touch can hit the target.

King's Lynn is a very short price considering ho wlong it's been since he actually won a race. There is no doubt that he has been on the down grade for some time, and his rating reflects that. Nonetheless he has shown that there is still some ability there in a few races this year. If the rain cames he will get the soft ground he is undoubtedly best on, and thereby boost his chances. Hollie Doyle is aboard for the first time, so hopefully her magic touch might just inspire him to put his best foot forward.

Jodie Townend has had a fantastic 2025 so far, including wins at the Cheltenham and Punchestown festivals. She has an outstanding chance of winning the premier ladies race on the calendar on Maghlaak. If the forecast is right the ground will ride on the soft side at Chester on Saturday. That will give Moonstone Boy a terrific chance to get his first win on 2025. Both runs so far have been very good, and he looks like he is still improving. The Jardine yard are going well currently, and the trainer is very fond of bagging a winner at Chester.

Ther appears to be a number of positives around the chances of Classic winning this open looking mile handicap. He loves the track, winning over a furlong shorter, and finishing a close second in this race last season. Richard Hannon has called on the services of Ryan Moore, and that might be the vital ingrdient.

William Buick looks an eyecatching booking for Ralph Beckett's improving four year old, Palmar Bay. The selection won at Chelmsford last time with a bit to spare. He should surely be better for the run which will negate the rise in the ratings.

Orbaan is a grand old boy who retains plenty of ability. I think this mile trip is his best, although a stiff uphill generally sees him at his best these days. I think his season target will be the Carlisle Bell at the end of the month, but he could go well enough here.

Davvy is one of the more experienced runners in this valuable seller, and that should help over this tricky track. He won a little race at Redcar last time which will have given him confidence. Michael Herrington, who trains Feel The Need, is an under rated trainer that does well with the limited amunition he has at his disposal. He's also in good form at the moment, which gives me hope for his charge here. Feel The Need is a course and distance winner, and looks reasonably well handicapped currently. The seven pound claimer, Andrea Pinna, is excellent value for his claim, and will hopefully be on the winner.

With the Keatley yard in cracking form, it might be worth chancing a few bob on Wobwobwob. At his best he's put up a number of good performances in decent handicaps, including winning the Silver Cup at Ayr in 2023. He's only raced once at Chester and that was a good effort over half a furlong further than today's trip, just running out of steam in the final 100 yards. He's four pounds lower than that race, and is proven on easy ground.

Maybe the track at Windsor didn't suit Haymaker last time because he ran very poorly. I think I'm going to write that run off, and give him another chance. -50

This second division of the seven furlong handicap looks potentially even poorer than the first, with most of these well out off form and mainly regressive. B Associates will bounce back one of these days so needs an eye kept on him. However a more solid proposition is Rain Cap. He is a moderate animal with a poor strike rate, but he seems to be in a bit of form, and does go pretty weel at Catterick. He's not one for a big bet, however he can do the business here.

Kalganov

Daily Racing

50 WINNAP

@5.00

Lose

-50

There are quite a few out and out dodge pots in this very modest handicap, a race likely to take very little winning. Miss Rainbow suddenly popped up at Thirsk last week, however she is just as likely to fail here in a race over a trip that is likely to test her to the limit. Kalganov looks a much safer option to me. He's been running quite well lately, and is 20 pounds lower now than when he last won. He stays the seven furlongs well, and hopefully can get Michael Dods an overdue winner.

Mum's Tipple is way too short here, albeit, he is by far the best horse in the race. He's never raced at Chepstow before, and there is absolutely no guarantee he will handle the undulations of the track. Whilst he may win, I would far rather play one at a big price, with good course form. Redredrobin fits the bill perfectly as he's already won here multiple times and been placed several times as well. As long as all eight stand their ground he must be an each way play at the current odds.

Way Of Stars

Daily Racing

50 WINNAP

@5.50

-50

These three-year-old handicaps are very difficult to work out as the participants are maturing at different rates and often stepping up to trips that they are going to be best at. One trainer who has a very good record in this category of races is Andrew Balding, and he sends the progressive-looking Way Of Stars in search of his maiden victory. Both runs this season have shown plenty of promise, and the step up to a mile and three-quarters is almost certainly the biggest hint that a win is in the offing.

With nineteen runners in the Derby there is the prospect of lots of trouble in running, meaning a shock result isn't out of the question. I'm siding with Pride Of Arras who was very impressive in the Dante, looking as though he would have no problem in staying the Derby trip. That was only his second lifetime run, and I think connections were a little surprised that he won so well. He can only have improved since York, and, as long as this doesn't come too soon, he could win the ultimate prize.

Stop The Cavalry is a lightly raced filly who has won first time out in both of the seasons she has raced. Her form looks pretty strong, and she will likely be still improving. Her very close third in a Longchamp Listed race at the end of last season looks a good line of form, potentially strong enough to win this.

Jer Batt was only a length behind American Affair at Musselburgh on his seasonal debut, getting two pounds, and that looks very good form. He's better off with JM Jungle from that race so should have the beating of that one. I think that's about as strong sprint form as we've seen so far this season, so his chance here looks clear. He acts well on easy ground, and with rain forecast he won't be inconvenienced. The yard had a placed runner here on Friday, and they've booked Oisin Murphy, which is a big plus as well.

Persuasion is a big price in a very open race, and could find a place if he brings his A game on the day. He won in game fashion at Musselburgh at their Sunday Series meeting in April. He followed that by running down the field at Chester, where he got no run at all. Last time he was disappointing at Newmarket, a track where he has run poorly in the past. Epsom will suit him better than Newmarket, and I wouldn't be hugely surprised to see a much better run here.

I thought Roundhay Park put up a fair showing at Catterick last time, which was a step up on his previous run indicating he was getting towards top form. His winning form is usually with some ease in the ground, and there is rain forecast overnight and throughout the morning, which will aid his chances. The yard have been getting winners recently, so there are reasons to be optimistic.

This looks like a very open-looking handicap, and being well placed from an early stage might be the way to go. Sacred Falls is very well drawn in ten, and if Jason Hart can get his mount to grab the standside rail, he could be very hard to beat. The mare tries hard in her races, so is likely to fare well in any battle near the finish.

Poet's Dawn is very much in the veteran category, however he is running consistently well currently, and might just have the legs of his younger rivals. He led, and looked the winner, at Redcar last time, only getting picked off late. I expect he might attempt the same tactics again here, and Ripon is a notoriously difficult track for those trying to come from behind. A wee drop of rain would be appreciated, but that doesn't appear likely looking at the forecast.

This five and a half furlong trip might be the key to getting his nose in front. He always seems to be finishing strongly over the minimum trip at Newcastle, which indicates to me this stiffish uphill finish here will suit down to the ground.
