I think this horse is a big price given he was 2nd in this season's Coral Gold Cup at Newbury. Whilst that wasn't a great renewal, it does point to a horse from that race being rated within the winning OR bracket of previous GN winners.

Willie Mullins thinks this one is the best handicapped of his runners and thinks this one has strengthened up since his 7th in the race last year when aged 7. Could be a very different prospect this time around. Mullins knows he can get around and knows he's on a good weight. No doubts to me that he has been trained this year with this race in mind. Danny Mullins rides, and he's done well in long-distance chases over the last year or so, winning the Scottish National and the Bet365 Gold Cup at Sandown, plus placing in the Irish National. Rather than the horse weakening, I think the horse will pounce late this year and reel them in within the final 100 yards.

161 rated over the bigger fences and has reverted back to hurdles where he is rated 145. That is the lowest of these, but his chase rating would have him the joint 2nd highest in this field. Soft ground Listed Hurdle winner at Perth in April last year. Going is an unknown, but plenty of GS form. Distance is fine, just needs to hurdle as well as he jumps, and he will be bang there.

3rd of 18 in the bumper here last year on GS. 7L 3rd of 7 behind Potters Charm here in a Grade 1 over 3f shorter in December on soft. But I think he will enjoy this ground more, likes Aintree, and no surprises if he enjoys the extra few furlongs more than most.

That was on Soft and needs to show he can handle the Good ground here, but that accounts for many of these. Up in trip to 3m but can get home on this ground if he takes to it.

Comes here fresh and has won first time out before. Most in the race have been on the go a while, so that freshness could account for a lot. Mark looks on the high side for what he's achieved but has won over this distance before, and notably on good ground that may be against many of these. Huge price for a horse with plenty of pluses.

The trainer and jockey partnership have won this twice in the last three years, so it's clearly a race they target. Grade 3 2nd at Cheltenham in December on good ground over 2m. This further trip should still be within his grasp, but 2m5f at stiff Cheltenham LTO was perhaps a step too far.

Looks to be a bit of each-way value about this horse with 4 places on offer. Only just beaten by one of his rivals today, his stablemate - STRONG RUN - at Warwick LTO, and currently that horse is half the price of this one. May do better on slightly better ground here, for a stable who won this race in 2023.

Last year's winning jockey rides, and he was on board when finishing a 6-length 3rd at Catterick LTO. Could easily do better now back to a more suitable distance. The vast majority of his races have been with less than 10 runners, so this may be a shock to the system, but I doubt O'Connor would be riding if he felt the horse couldn't handle it.

Looks a good each-way price. I think his run at Cheltenham last time out in January showed he could handle this trip, but at Cheltenham, the uphill finish just caught him out a little. Aintree has a more level finish, and he should be able to see it out better. I think it's likely he's better targeted towards this.

First time blinkers can change the performance of any horse, basically scaring them into racing away from the unknown - what they can't see. This horse has been very poor since joining this stable after nearly two years out. Has clearly had a problem that has seen his mark drop from 74 to 48 and running at Class 4 to here at the lowest level. Has been out for 109 days and makes no sense to try the blinkers on his return, unless of course they think the horse has a chance. May win, may finish 20 lengths off the winner, but I think it's likely an improved performance is on the cards off what could be an excellent mark.

First time visor for this one tonight, and that so often has a huge impact at this level. Interesting that it comes on his seasonal debut. Poor in his last two, but his debut at Southwell last year was okay and would put him on a mark of 70-75. Looks well treated, therefore, off 63, and the visor looks a sign of intent.

Could well be a huge price on this one. Whilst I doubt the horse is in the 70 plus OR bracket needed to win this race, I do think he has a chance of sneaking into a place on his third run. He will know more about what's expected now and will be at optimum fitness. His 8l last of 6 over CD 17 days ago would put him on a mark of 55-60. He got stuck for a bit of room at a critical time in that, so could well be a 60-65 horse which would be competitive for a place here.
