Good return on handicap debut this year in April on turf to place 3rd of 13 runners at Bath. Won last time out at Newcastle over 6f last month. 8 lb up today. Stepping back into the trip should not be a problem. Trainer Ed Dunlop's yard is 1-9 and 1 placed at Ascot with 3yo runners. The yard has a decent SR of 13% in 3yo handicaps. Jockey Harry Davies is on board and he is riding well in handicaps. He is 3-27 in 3yo handicaps this season. Has an SR of 12% at Ascot over the last five seasons. So I think Starmade has a good each-way chance in this one.

Taking a chance on Balantina to go close here. She has progressed well in Group races in the last year or so. Placed 3rd here in the Albany Stakes last year. Placed 2nd at Deauville (France) over 7f in Group 3 company. Did not do that bad a run at the Curragh to place 5th in 6 runners at 6/1 in August. Won the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf at Del Mar in the USA last October over 8f. Has not raced since then but should go well back at Ascot. Trainer Donnacha O'Brien doesn't run many at the festival. He is 1-3 at Ascot with 3yo runners. Yard is 2-7 in Group races with 3yo runners in GB and 2-5 over 1m trips. Jockey Oisin Murphy is back on the board and he is 2-2 riding Balantina so far. He has a decent 18% SR riding 3yo runners at Ascot. Does well riding over 1m trips with a 24% SR. He does well in Group races with a 12% SR. So I think Balantina has a good each-way chance in this one.

Won at Carlisle last time out over 11f in 12 runners. 8 lb up today but should continue a progressive run. Stepping up to 12f should help. Trainer William Haggas's yard won this race in 2022. The yard had a couple of winners at the festival this week, one of them in handicap company. The yard has only an 8% strike rate with 4yr+ runners at Ascot but has had many placed. It has a decent 25% SR with 4yr+ runners over 12f trips. Jockey James McDonald is on board this time and he is 4-23 riding 4yr+ runners at Ascot. He is 1-11 in handicap company though has had a few placed. So I think Opportunity has a good each-way chance in this one.

Had a good return to place 3rd in 10 runners over 7f at 12/1 in Group 3 at Leopardstown last month. On the same mark today, so should go well stepping up to 8f today.
