The Jeremy Scott stable has been hitting the bar lately with a few seconds in the last fortnight, and maybe Celtic Art can change that. A course-and-distance winner who likes good ground, he put up a winning performance at Taunton on the penultimate start. The last run has to be ignored, as it was on heavy ground. Officially rated the second-best horse in the race, so the odds seem too big.

The Gary Moore stable are in form with 3 winners from 40 runs. Unlike my main selection in the race, Takeiteasy, the jockey on Hes A Latchico, Rob Hargreaves, takes off a valuable 8 lb, which is a proven advantage in these conditional jockey races. He is a previous Kempton winner on the flat and stays all sorts of trips from 1m 6f to 2m 3f.

Getting on in years but I like the Pam Sly horses and she does well with a small string. She's also had a winner in the last fortnight. Take It Easy has had a good record second run back from a break, so today he could possibly improve on the recent second at Fakenham. That was a grade higher than today and he was beaten by the younger horse Morning Mayhem. Overlooked in the market, but as Kempton is often a front-runners' course, I will take a chance at the odds on offer.

A bit of a risk as Hawkseye View fell last time out. But before that, 13 races over chases with 1 win and 5 places, plus an unseated rider, are not bad stats. Also a beaten favourite last time out and trained by Sue Smith (a stable in form). Winning form on good??"soft ground and makes a quick return after 8 days, so I suspect he is none the worse for the fall.

Paddy O'Mahler from the in-form Sue Smith stable had a nicely priced chase winner on Saturday. Paddy O is also in good form; his recent form figures read 112. The handicapper has had his say, but he ran well enough last time out and was only collared close home by Chasingtheblues, who is today’s favourite. Because of that, I make him an each-way play today. Trip and ground no problem, and he beat the favourite last time out.

Egbert went into the notebook when winning the Tommy Whittle at Haydock in December 2024. He was then aimed at the Grand National and put in two bad runs. He then switched stables to Christian Williams and bolted up when returned to Haydock Park. Today he goes to Exeter in a follow-up attempt, and with Harry Cobden booked that must be a positive. Effective on both right- and left-handed tracks, a similar display to the Haydock race would see him go close.

Disappointing in the Cotswold Chase can be forgiven after being kicked at the start and in one of those small-field chase races with no pace for him to aim at. The last run from the previous trainer in France was second to today's favourite Proactif, also now with Willie Mullins, on very soft ground.
