With a favourite who is a big question mark as to if she will stay the trip and 9 runners currently declared then the race sets up nicely for an each way bet at a big price. I have sided with Joseph's filly who was thrown in the deep end on seasonal return, taking on the boys in the Ballysax Stakes. That race couldn't have worked out any better with the winner Delecroix going in again since and vying for favouritism for the Derby. 2nd was Lambourn who is a 10/1 shot for the Derby and won a trial at Chester on next start. The 3rd has disappointed, but the 4th won the Lingfield Derby Trial on his next start. Admittedly this filly was getting the weight allowance but even then 5th was creditable and great experience for her. Easily won the Salsabil stakes last time over 1m 2f on soft ground bagging a group 3 to her name. Out of an Australia mare, I would be pretty confident on her staying.

Obviously a chancy one at the price, and they are making their seasonal return against several race-fit rivals. But I can't get away from this horse's record over 1m 2f when getting give in the ground. It reads 11121, his only defeat coming when beaten by a horse who is now rated 11lb higher. The ground has come right for him, he is a course and distance winner, and his record fresh is good. In fact, he is 111254 after an absence of 70 or more days since handicapping. Cheekpieces have eked a bit more improvement out of him, and with plenty of pace on, he should hopefully be staying on well at the finish.

Bit of each-way thievery, I hope, with the 8 runners and a small loss if placing. However, I believe he has a great chance of taking victory. Paid the price for chasing a strong pace last time, where he faded late on as those ridden more patiently took over. The runner-up, in particular, came from a long way back. Should be a lot steadier here whilst he has a great draw in stall 3 to bag a good position. First couple of races suggest it pays to be on the pace, so hopefully, that continues.

Twice a winner a couple of years ago under this jockey. This mare was off the track for over 500 days before returning this season. Pulled up in the first of these, which is unsurprising considering the absence, and certainly showed she retained ability when 2nd next time, doing best of those to chase the early pace. Really like this Haydock card, though I may hate it by the end of the day if things don't go according to plan! I do think Ain't Nobody can reverse placings with Big Mojo on their last run. He was slowly away, then squeezed out before making up the ground in the next 4 furlongs, running either the fastest or 2nd fastest furlong each time. Needless to say, by the time of the last furlong, his speed gave way. Normally, he is faster away from the stalls, where if taking a good position, he would expend less energy making up ground as he did here. My only concern is that on a mark of 103, he could go to a top 3yo handicap somewhere, though nothing suitable at Royal Ascot where he won last year. More of a chance that they will look to test him, forgetting about his handicap mark with the plan of following up in the Commonwealth Cup instead.

Hoping they keep the 8 runners as I like the each way option in the race. For a start, we have a favorite who on last year's form should win this, but on her one start this season was bitterly disappointing and has to bounce back significantly to compete here. The 2nd favorite, Diamond Rain, was comfortably beaten in a listed race when last seen. Therefore, I will chance Secret Satire, who may have needed her first run this year when leading against higher-rated horses before fading late on. She has won on her 2nd start in the last two seasons, improving significantly. She does have a Group 3 win over Francophone to her name, who reopposes here. She has been beaten in much tougher assignments since, with this being the easiest for a little while. With the yard in great form, I will be disappointed if she doesn't place.

He may well get his form franked again if Transparent was to run and win at Goodwood on Friday also, though the form has already received a boost after the win of the third next time by over 4 lengths. A course winner as a 2-year-old last year, he has gone up 8 lb but I don't think it will stop a horse who showed a good turn of foot to win.

Bit of shithousery betting going each way at the price, but just one win in 20 is a concern to back a horse win only. Though it is hard to see him not being in contention. His best run since being gelded and switching to this yard came over 7f on a straight course. Since then, he has raced 6 times over further at a mile. That has resulted in the horse being 5lb lower in the weights. Oisin Murphy booked for the ride and the yard sending this horse a fair distance to get its conditions are all positives.

Appreciated the return to two miles last time when beaten 2 1/4 lengths by a horse who has won again since and is rated 12lb higher. As opposed to my tip earlier where there looked to be plenty of pace, that doesn't look to be the case here with many that like to be held up off the pace. So it may pay to be up there here. The one to capitalize from that hopefully is Master Richard. On a 16-race losing run, and normally I wouldn't be tipping win, but as I also fancy something at an even bigger price. Dropped 10lb down the handicap in the last year, he looked in need of the run last time when fading at the end, on his first run after a wind op. Second time up is often the time to catch them after a wind operation. Both turf wins have come here, admittedly over a mile, but he handles 7f fine on the a/w. I'm hopeful of a good run.

His record over 7f on good or faster and in class 4 or lower reads 22355111, which includes a course and distance win. Record fresh is ok and yard can get them ready for the occasion. He does need a strong pace so if I have got it wrong with Master Richard then it would at least benefit this horse. Yard form is good though high draw is a concern. The form of that run has worked out with the runner up winning next time and is 7lb higher, along with the 3rd who won their next start and is 4lb higher. Primrose Path is just 5lb higher, yard form is fine, though not winning, whilst the jockey is full of confidence for his 5lb claim, racking up a quickfire hat trick on Zappata. Now, has a tricky draw to contend with, out wide, but as a hold up type, she can be dropped in easy and come wide with a run. If the track is playing ball, suiting finishers then she can go well.

Therefore, I would rather side with Doha, for the in-form Beckett yard. A listed winner at Saint Cloud last year, the form of which has worked out very well. Should have put this up last night when I picked it out and it was double the price! I've said before about liking these apprentice and conditional jockey races as there can be some great value in jockeys who are able to claim significant weight over jockeys with not much more experience or ability. Prime example here where Joshua Thompson can claim 6lb over other conditionals. Compare this to a regular handicap where he would claim 7lb over professional and vastly more experienced jockeys. He has 12 wins to his name and though a strike rate of 7% is a little low, he does ride a lot of big-priced outsiders with little chance. Currently riding with plenty of confidence, he has a recent win to his name while also boasting 5 top 3 finishes in the last 14 days. The horse has yet to win but is lightly raced, shaped with promise last time, and should benefit from stepping back up in trip.
