Rock Hurley is a solid handicap hurdler who just did too much too soon at Cartmel and didn’t get home, so that first run is easy enough to forgive. His best form is around this 2m3 trip, and with the blinkers and tongue-tie combo fitted today they could help keep going. Back at a distance and at a track where McCain does well and with a 5lb claimer, he makes a bit of each-way appeal to me. Not bombproof, but he’s the type who could bounce back quickly from that blip and run a much truer race here

Mr Nippy looks like a really solid type who is knocking on the door for a win. He ran a clear second over this C&D last time, and that form fits in very well in a race like this, especially as he’s still learning and carries a very workable mark now. He’s bred to be good over a mile, has already shown me that he handles the Tapeta fine, and gets Jason Hart again. In a small nursery like this, he has a very good chance of getting that win here.

Arishkas Dream had a rough start on debut, finishing fifth after missing the break, and he got, in my opinion, a very negative ride that left him with too much to do. He's by Dream Ahead and bred to handle 6 furlongs well on all-weather, so this first run here should have given him the scopr to improve more. With Rob Hornby riding for the first time and under experienced trainers Daniel and Claire Kubler, I’d expect him to step up today.

Sawgrass has been running fairly consistently this autumn around 14-16f. She tends to fade late, but she’s often in the thick of things. She clearly needs a hold-up ride to suit her running style. David Egan stays aboard, so there’s every chance she’ll be ridden perfectly again. This Wolverhampton AW surface suits her, and since she’s effective at this trip, she’s at least an each-way shout to me if the pace is strong and she can conserve energy for a late charge
