Cannes has had three maiden runs under D. B. McMonagle, with two seconds and a win when second up after the break at 1m4f. He was fast out of the gate with a great finishing run, so I would expect more in the handicap debut with a decent draw.

Guildmaster

Guildmaster won a C5 novice on debut in December and returned in April in a C2 to an OK third of five. While only seventh when last out in May, that was in a G2. I would expect to see more now returning to C2, and with 5P on offer I think he could be worth an each-way chance.

Carmers did well last summer, winning a G2 under W. J. Lee, and returned from the break in April with a win in listed company when second up while stepping up to 2 miles. Worth an each-way shot at a G1 2m4f.

River King only missed out by a neck on his return from a break in May on handicap debut, but then made all in a C4 at the start of the month to win by over 3L after taking on 3 lbs. He is clearly on the up. This 4yo should come on for that run while keeping Pat Dobbs on board and could go well in C2 today with 6P on offer EW.

Sarafina Mshairi

Sarafina Mshairi has a chance in this. She signed off last term in Oct with a win here off a 61 while running with the fillies, but did not fare so well on her return last month off a 67 on turf with the boys. I think the return here, back with the fillies, and having Harry Vigors and his 7 lb claim while on a 65, should make her a tad sharper now second up.
