A few of these look vulnerable and hurdling newcomer HANDMEDOWNASTAR could run into a place. The horse he beat by 18-lengths when winning his Irish point has run since to a mark of 112 over hurdles. Given the form horse in this race, Catch On Me, has run to 116 twice, then clearly the selection should be a contender on the maths.

KARATE KID surely must not be judged on his run at Ascot last time. As best I can tell, his bumper form in Ireland reads well enough and a 6-figure price tag suggested a bright future. Given a decent break to get over whatever was wrong at Ascot and this looks very winnable. Hopefully, the market will send the right signals and he can beat Venetia's horse, who is already starting to look a little exposed.

GOOD FRIDAY FAIRY looks the solid option here and looks a good price. Although not especially well handicapped, the 9-y-o jumps and travels well from the front, and this small field will play to those strengths. Has course form and doesn't seem to mind if it is soft or a bit drier. None of the others look convincing and for me, that seals my opinion around this one.

I was thinking JUNIOR DES MOTTES could do with a break after three quick races but this is a gift of an opportunity. It is really hard to make any strong cases elswhere and so I have to conclude the odds-on favourite, being demonstrably in good form, is the value bet. Amalfi Skyline could feasibly follow him home and run above his market price.
