However, he demonstrated that he has not yet reached his full potential. Interestingly, William Mullins’s stable has yet to enjoy success in this particular race. But if Gold Dancer performs to the best of his ability today, he could secure a victory for his trainer

SOBER GLORY represents the Philip Hobbs & Johnson White stable. He has seven wins to his name. The distance suits him perfectly, and judging by his performance at Cheltenham, he is in good form

Heart Wood is trained by Henry de Bromhead. He has six wins to his name. His performance at Cheltenham was simply brilliant; he won the Ryanair Chase, beating his nearest rival by 10 lengths. His chances of winning here at Aintree are high

Primoz is trained by Lucinda Russell & Michael Scudamore. He has five wins to his name. Most recently, on 7 March, he won a race at Ayr, beating his nearest rival by 13 lengths, which is testament to his excellent form. He is well-handicapped, skipped Cheltenham to be fully prepared for Aintree, and his performance here could well prove successful

This race has attracted more genuine contenders for victory than any other today. Even the bookmakers can’t quite settle on a clear favourite. In this situation, I’ll place an each-way bet. My choice is Dalston Lad from Dan Skelton’s stable. He skipped Cheltenham and comes into today’s race fresh. His last two races ended in convincing victories. His chances of finishing in the money look realistic, even in such strong company as today’s.

In his last four races, Wandering Ego has finished 4th, 3rd, 2nd and 1st respectively. This is an impressive run of form, suggesting that the horse is improving with every race, which is exactly what is required. The chances of finishing in the money in today’s final race are very real, especially as Olly Murphy’s stable has had excellent form over the last two weeks

Masters debutant Casey Jarvis is in excellent form this season, as evidenced by his two victories and one second-place finish in tournaments in 2026. He shouldn’t let this good form go to waste, and he is well placed to perform successfully at the Masters

Patrick Reed, winner of the 2018 Masters, has started this season with two wins and one second-place finish. He is in consistent form, which means he has a good chance of performing well at the Masters

Jake Knapp has been performing consistently and achieving good results in 2026. He has been particularly strong on the first day of tournaments. It therefore makes perfect sense to bet that he will start the Masters among the leaders

In his last four Masters tournaments, Scottie Scheffler has finished first twice, fourth once and tenth once. It is quite likely that he will be among the leaders after the first day

Bryson DeChambeau has won two tournaments in a row in Singapore and South Africa. This run of form and the overall quality of his game make him one of the main favourites for the upcoming Masters
