At the recent Cheltenham Festival, Minella Study was virtually neck and neck, just a shd behind the runner-up and only a short length behind the winner. It is therefore reasonable to expect a strong performance in the opening race of the festival at Aintree and, with a bit of luck, even a victory

There are just five runners in the race, and there is a clear favourite here. However, statistics from previous years suggest that the favourite does not win this race. It therefore makes sense to trust the statistics and back Koktail Divin, who is trained by Henry De Bromhead. At Cheltenham he was only 6th, but the distance there was 25 furlongs. Today Koktail Divin is running over 20 furlongs, and this should suit him better, given his brilliant victory at Leopardstown, where he won a race over 2m 5½ furlongs, beating his nearest rival by 21 lengths

Jango Baie is trained by Nicky Henderson. He has five wins to his name. He was beaten by Gaelic Warrior in the Gold Cup at Cheltenham, but he is a cut above today’s rivals. Barring any surprises, he should win this race

This race stands out somewhat and has its own unique characteristics. Given that the top 5 places will be prize-winning, it’s worth taking a chance and backing Fairly Famous. This gelding is trained by Mrs G Andrews. He has 12 wins to his name, 10 of which were in PTP races. In the saddle will be Miss Gina Andrews, who won this race in 2022. The chances of finishing in the money look realistic

The main contenders for victory are The New Lion and Brighterdaysahead. Looking back at their clash at Cheltenham, where they finished 2nd and 3rd in the Unibet Champion Hurdle Challenge Trophy, Brighterdaysahead was slightly faster there, beating his rival by half a length. Incidentally, Brighterdaysahead already has a victory here at Aintree in 2024 to her name. Her chances of winning this race are high

This will be a modest EW bet. Although Stencil has looked very confident this season, finishing second at Ascot and winning at Chepstow. At Cheltenham, he could only manage 10th place, but the distance there was four and a half furlongs longer. Returning to a 2-mile race should suit him well

Kiltybo looks a strong contender to set the pace in this race. She has won her last two races at Thurles and Naas, beating her nearest rivals by around four lengths on each occasion. Her chances of finishing in the money are very real

Masters debutant Casey Jarvis is in excellent form this season, as evidenced by his two victories and one second-place finish in tournaments in 2026. He shouldn’t let this good form go to waste, and he is well placed to perform successfully at the Masters

Patrick Reed, winner of the 2018 Masters, has started this season with two wins and one second-place finish. He is in consistent form, which means he has a good chance of performing well at the Masters

Jake Knapp has been performing consistently and achieving good results in 2026. He has been particularly strong on the first day of tournaments. It therefore makes perfect sense to bet that he will start the Masters among the leaders

In his last four Masters tournaments, Scottie Scheffler has finished first twice, fourth once and tenth once. It is quite likely that he will be among the leaders after the first day

Bryson DeChambeau has won two tournaments in a row in Singapore and South Africa. This run of form and the overall quality of his game make him one of the main favourites for the upcoming Masters

Xander Schauffele has finished in the top ten five times in his eight Masters appearances, including in the last three tournaments. His chances of a podium finish are very strong

Veteran Zach Johnson finished joint second in the Hoag Classic, joint third in the Cologuard Classic and won the James Hardie Pro Football Hall of Fame Invitational. All of this took place in March. So, at odds of 400/1, he’ll still be in contention at the Masters
