Overview

I've got my shields up and ready because I found "The Return of the Green Knight" on the slot sites listed above, and I can't wait to dive in. This game, a sequel to the massively popular "The Green Knight" by Play n'GO, offers a thrilling adventure on its 5 reels and 3 rows setup. It's all about the thrill here, with the game's high volatility and the RTP of 96.27% adding to the excitement. But what really caught my eye are the random Wild Multipliers. During any spin, these Wild Multipliers can kick in, boosting my wins by up to 100 times! If you're into slot games as much as I am, this is one adventure you won't want to miss.

100 Spins Test

This 100 Spin test was updated by Steve Madgwick on 26/10/2023

100 spins is not a Real Test

We give every slot a 100 spin test to see just what it can do, or not as the case can often be - 100 spins is no reflection of the likelihood of any other 100-spin session, as RTP's are set over many millions and probably billions of spins. So this 100 spin test is just for entertainment and insight purposes

Test Comments

The first thing you'll notice is that with a 164.6% Session RTP this was a profitable slot review test run, and they are always welcome, but the final figure only tells part of the story, an insight you may get from the biggest base game win of 130x.

The point being, for 71 spins, there was nothing, and I mean NADA going on, Lots of lower that stake wins, but around a 20%RTP to that point, and then the multiplayer wild hit for a very nice, and welcome at the point 130x win. Followed by a couple more and totally a high frequency 28 winning spins in 100, pushed the average winning spin up to a very respectable 5.87x

As I say though, the volatility was very much on show up until the 72nd spin, so tread careful, this one can be a credit muncher.

Graphics, Music, and Sound Effects

An excellent adjective to describe the game is otherwordly. The imagery is high quality and you'll find an enchanting woodland somewhere in olde England with a river meandering through the forest floor. Eye-catching colours light up the reel imagery which contains rune stones and magical Arthurian characters.

Music-wise you’ll listen to a dramatic score which wouldn't be out of place in a Hollywood fantasy film. You feel like you're venturing out on a mystical quest. Sound effects include the noise of shields and swords being drawn and struck which suits the game info telling us to ‘suit up and charge into battle.’

Key Features

Now that I've covered the summary, intro, graphics, music, and sound effects. Next up I’ll be talking about the key game features. All of this info should help you form a view of the new Return of the Green Knight slot game.

At OLBG we write slot games reviews that include up-to-date info about features such as paylines, reels, bet range and bonuses. I’ll finish the review with a rundown of my play experience, first impressions and expert verdict so don't go anywhere.

Theme – King Arthur

The tales of King Arthur have been spellbinding people since the 1400s. The setting for this game is as magical as you’d expect with a large castle and a meandering river, running through a bewitching forest. It has an Autumnal feel with red and orange leaves on the tree which are starting to twirl to the forest floor.

The reels cover a range of hues and they show an assortment of Arthurian characters. The special symbols In order of value from highest are Sir Gawain, Morgana, King Arthur & Guinevere. The standard reel symbols of A, K,Q, J & T have a rune stone design in various colours.

The symbols include the Wild Multiplier Symbol plus a Scatter Symbol which is represented by The Green Knight himself.

Reels

The Return of the Green Knight slot game has the classic setup of 5 reels and 3 rows.

Paylines

You’ll discover 20 non-adjustable paylines where you can trigger winning combos.

RTP

Return to player or RTP as it’s commonly known is an acronym used on slot sites. It’s a percentage figure forecasting what percentage of stakes will be returned to players over the long term. It’s usually between 94%-96%, and the Return of the Green Knight is slightly above average at 96.27%.

Play n’GO, like many game providers uses this RTP as a default value. Therefore, you’ll find different RTP rates across various sites. We’ve saved you some time and identified a few different percentages at some of the top UK online casinos and added them to the table below.

It’s worth mentioning that there are many factors to think about when deciding where to play. There are other points such as payment options, customer support and welcome bonuses and deals. You should take a look at our casino reviews as we look at these aspects plus many more.

Stake Range

There is a wide bet range which should suit most players' pockets that starts at £0.10 and goes right up to £100.

Max Win

You’ll discover an impressive 40,000x your stake if you win the max win amount when playing the Return of the Green Knight game.

Wild Shape

During a spin, a random Wild Multiplier can activate and apply to all of your Wilds. If one or more Wild Multipliers substitute for another symbol in a winning combination, the payline will be multiplied by the value shown on the Wild Multiplier, ranging from x2 to x100.

Free Spins

You can trigger 2 Free Spins rounds during the Return of the Green Knight game. Firstly, there is the Mighty Free Spins. Landing 3 or more Scatter Symbols gets you entry into this round and you’ll receive 5 Free Spins. The multiplier value increases with each Free Spin – starting at x2 and going right up to x100 on the fifth spin. If 2 Scatters make a skirmish during the round you’ll enter the next Free Spins round which is titled Shield Spins.

If you trigger Shield Spins during the Mighty Free Spins the round is paused to allow you to play Shield Spins. During the Shield Spins round, the current Wild Multiplier value is locked in for all 5 spins so they remain sticky. Any new Wilds that appear during this time are also locked in place for the rest of the round.

Jackpot

Like most modern-day slot games, the Return of the Green Knight game doesn't have a jackpot element. If jackpot games are your thing you should check out our page with the best jackpot slot games.

Play Experience & First Impressions

The Return of the Green Knight is a charming game which uses the popular King Arthur theme. Multipliers are the focal point of the game and they go up to a mega x100. The Free Spins have been split into 2 rounds which works well, during these rounds you go further into the forest which looks darker and more supernatural.  During the Free Spins round, I enjoyed watching the multiplier shields increase for each round in the bar at the top of the screen all the way to 100x. It’s a clear message for anyone new to the game and was an exciting element. During the Shield Spins when the Wilds trigger, they remain sticky for the entire bonus round which is pretty nifty.

Expert Verdict

The King Artur stories are beautiful English tales which have inspired scores of brilliant films, TV series, books and games. Play n’GO has released 10 games under this mystical theme including Merlin: Journey of Flame, Clash of Camelot and The Sword and The Grail.

Therefore, as you’d expect the story element of this game is fantastic with well-known characters appearing prominently on the reels. The original Green Knight slot game was a roaring success for Play n’GO so it’s understandable a second game would follow. And how does it compare to the original? Very well, I’m happy to report. The imagery and Multipliers are similar although they’ve been given a refresh. But with a 40,000x max win compared to the last game’s 10,000x, that’s a huge upgrade. It’s one of the largest max win amounts I’ve seen recently. The Free Spins have also been improved with the addition of the Mighty Free Spins with its strong message of increased multipliers for each spin. The sticky Wilds during the Shields Spins round are a big pull too.

Sequels dont always work but this one is outstanding and whether you're a fan of the original or you’re new to the story you’ll enjoy the Return of the Green Knight slot game.
