The Jelly Express slot is played on a 6x5 grid with Scatter Pays. To land a winning outcome, you need 8 or more of the same symbol appearing anywhere in view: they don’t need to be connected vertically or horizontally. On the grid, the low-value symbols include 5 different types of candy. The higher-value symbols including a gingerbread couple, a gingerbread lady, a gingerbread man and pink gummy bear who drives the Jelly Express train. The gummy bear symbol is the best paying, awarding a 50 x bet payout for 12 to 30 on the grid.

Then you have the Train Wild symbol, which substitutes for all symbols above. There is a Coin Scatter which is key to triggering the Free Spins feature.

Jelly Express Mobile

As with all Pragmatic Play games, Jelly Express is available to play on mobile, tablet and desktop devices. Using HTML5 technology, you’ll play in Portrait Mode when playing on an iOS or Android smartphone. In my opinion, the 6x5 grid looks better on a larger screen (like a PC or laptop).

Jelly Express comes with tumbles and wild multipliers up to 100x. With a choice of 6 free spins and wild multiplier options, there is a Super Free Spins feature where you can build up the non-resetting total multiplier.

Tumble

When you land a winning outcome, of 8+ matching symbols anywhere in view, the Tumble feature will be activated. Winning combinations are paid with all winning symbols disappearing from the grid. The remaining symbols drop into the empty grid positions with new symbols tumbling in from above. Giving you the chance to form more wins, the tumbling sequence continues until no more wins appear.

Wild Multiplier

When at least 1 Train Wild symbol is part of a winning combination, the Wild Multiplier is triggered. A random multiplier from 1x to 100x is applied to all winning combinations and subsequent tumbles.

When 3 Coin Scatters land during a base game spin, the Free Spins feature is triggered. You then have 6 free spins and wild multiplier options:

Super Free Spins

When 1 or more Coin Scatter symbols landing during the free spins, you may randomly trigger the Super Free Spins feature. With 5 extra free spins awarded, when a Train Wild is part of a win, the multiplier value awarded is added to the total multiplier.

Importantly, the total multiplier is applied for all subsequent wins with at least 1 Train Wild symbol included. Finally, the total multiplier doesn’t reset until the feature ends.

Special Bets & Bonus Buy

As expected, Pragmatic Play has added several special bets and bonus buy options. With some of them not available in the UK, below are the details:

• Ante Bet: costing 5 x bet, there is an 8 times higher chance of triggering the free spins. Every winning wild guarantees a multiplier of at least 2x.
• Super Spin 1: costing 20 x bet, at least 1 Train Wild is guaranteed on each spin and tumble.
• Super Spin 2: costing 250 x bet, at least 1 Train Wild is guaranteed on every spin/tumble. The multiplier will be random from 10x to 100x.
• Free Spins: costing 100 x bet, you will trigger the Free Spins feature.
• Super Free Spins: costing 500 x bet, you’ll play the Super Free Spins feature

Following a long line of candy-themed games by Pragmatic Play, the Jelly Express slot arrives with plenty of promise. Following Candy Corner, Sweet Kingdom, Sweet Bonanza and Sugar Rush, how does this release fare?

In the base game, there are tumbles and random wild multipliers up to 100x. It’s the Free Spins feature where things get interesting. With a choice of 6 free spins and wild multiplier options, I would personally go for the higher wild multipliers as 1 win could result in a big payout.

However, the key is to trigger the Super Free Spins feature: when a Train Wild is involved in a win, the multiplier value gets added to the total multiplier. Not resetting, this can rise and result in big wins on each super free spin you get a win with (involving the Train Wild of course).

With 5,000 x bet max wins, I would have hoped that Pragmatic Play would have upped the win potential to 5 or 10 times that amount to make Jelly Express stand out. The max win probability is also high at 1 in 16,129,065 spins whereas it’s 1 in 2,340,000 spins in Sugar Rush.

In summary, Jelly Express is a well-produced game with decent win potential and higher-than-average RTP rate. However, it doesn’t compare Sweet Bonanza/Sugar Rush or establish itself as a top Scatter Pays choice unfortunately.
