Age of the Dogs Slot (Playtech)

The Age of the Dogs slot begins on a 7x7 grid with Cluster Pays. As with Cluster Pays slots, winning clusters are formed when a certain number of matching symbols appear adjacent to one another: in this case, you need 5 or more allowing for wins with multiple symbols. The bigger the cluster, the larger the payout.

With a 10p minimum bet per spin, the maximum bet per spin is £5 in the UK (or £2 if under 25). Players outside the UK can opt for Autoplay where there is a 5 to 100 auto spins or until you trigger a bonus feature. For non-UK players, there is also Turbo Mode.

The Age of the Dogs RTP is 96.21%, which is above than the 96% average. The max win probability is 1 in 5 billion spins whilst winning 1,000 x your total bet or higher will occur every 1 in 123,512 spins.

With a Greek mythology/dog theme, the Age of the Gods slot is a dog-themed take on Playtech’s iconic Age of the Gods series. In this Greek canine adventure, dogs Hermes, Artemis, Poseidon and Ares harness the power of a Greek god.

With Mount Olympus in the background, the graphics are soft and have a much more fun feel that the Age of the Gods slots. The soundtrack also depicts the theme but is playful.

On the grid, you’ll come across low-value blue, green, orange and purple gemstones. The higher-value symbols are represented by each of the dog’s weapons, including Artemis’ bow and arrow, Poseidon’s trident, Ares’ hammer and Hermes’ Caduceus (a winged staff entwined with 2 snakes). The Hermes Caduceus symbol is the best paying, awarding 1,000 x your total bet for 65 or more in a cluster.

There are special symbols of course: first up is the Paw Print Wild symbol which substitutes for all symbols except the Bone Collar Scatter and 4 dogs. The Dog Bone Collar Scatter is used to trigger the Free Games feature (more on this below). When it comes to the 4 dogs, each of them triggers its own bonus feature (again, more on this below).

Age of the Dogs Mobile

Optimised with HTML5 technology, Age of the Dogs has can be played on desktop, mobile and tablet devices, including iOS and Android smartphones. Regarding the latter, it will be played in Portrait Mode.

The Age of the Dogs slot comes with cascades and 4 Dog features where the grid can expand up to 10x10 in size, drop Paw Print Wilds onto the grid, transform 3 symbol types and respins with wilds and scatters remaining in position. There is also a Free Games feature where you choose from free spins and Dog feature options, with unlimited retriggers available.

Cascade

When a winning cluster of 5 or more matching symbols lands (connected vertically or horizontally), the Cascade feature is triggered. All winning symbols explode after the win has been awarded with the remaining symbols dropping down to occupy the empty positions. New symbols then drop down to fill the newly vacated positions: this allows for more cluster wins.

Applying in the base game and free spins, the Cascade feature continues as long as you keep forming winning clusters.

Dog features

As mentioned, there are 4 dog symbols. Landing in both the base game and free spins, each dog trigger its own bonus feature. Only 1 dog can appear at any one time. Below are all the details:

• Ares feature: when Ares lands, the grid grows by 1 row and 1 reel. Once this occurs, Ares transforms into a Paw Print Wild. The grid can grow up to 10x10 in size with Area transforming straight into a Paw Print Wild if landing when the grid is at the maximum size.
• Hermes feature: when Hermes lands, he travels through the grid, dropping 3-10 Paw Print Wilds in random positions. Hermes then return to his original position: if there is any cluster wins, Hermes explodes along with the winning symbols.
• Artemis feature: when Artemis lands, up to 3 different symbol types transform to a selected symbol. Once all symbols have transformed, Artemis explodes along with the winning symbols (if there are any cluster wins). The symbol chosen is always a winning symbol or the highest value symbol among them. If no wins appear, the symbol is chosen randomly.
• Poseidon feature: when Poseidon lands, you’re granted a respin with all winning clusters, Paw Print Wilds and Dog Bone Collar Scatters remaining in place. All non-winning symbols are then replaced. If new cluster wins are formed, existing clusters grow in size with another respin awarded. With each win, Poseidon explodes along with the winning symbols.

Free Games

The Free Games feature is triggered when 3 Dog Bone Collar Scatter symbols land simultaneously anywhere on the grid during a base game spin. You will then be presented with 5 different options (with the RTP varying slightly):

Depending on the option you choose, you will benefit from 1-4 of the Dog features. With the Ares feature, the grid resets back to 7x7 after the free spins are over.

During the feature, landing 3 Dog Bone Collar Scatter symbols simultaneously will give you extra free spins. The number of free spins you’ll win depends on the option chosen when the feature began:  

• If you chose 10 free spins +1 Dog, you’ll get 5 extra free spins
• If you chose 5 free spins + 2 Dogs, you’ll get 3 extra free spins
• If you chose 3 free spins + 3 Dogs, you’ll get 2 extra free spins

With cascades for continuous wins, look out for the 4 dog symbols. Each triggering their own bonus feature, Ares can expand the grid up to 10x10 in size whilst Hermes can drop up to 10 wilds onto the grid. Artemis transforms up to 3 symbols for a higher chance of cluster wins with Poseidon awarding a respin with wilds and scatters remaining in position. If a cluster win lands, more respins follow.

Whilst not as hard-hitting as Playtech’s Age of the Gods games, Age of the Dogs is packed full of bonus features and canine fun. With 3,462.4 x bet max wins, the win potential isn’t that high but I would recommend if you’re a dog lover. Finally, I would have hoped that Age of the Dogs would have been part of the Age of the Gods jackpot network.
