Latest odds say there's a 4/1 chance that Premier League players strike this season

Potential striking action for high-level footballers is a highly discussed topic in recent days following Manchester City midfielder Rodri's comments last week and OLBG now look at odds of a strike happening.

Rodri was asked whether players will strike in a press conference before City's Champions League game against Inter last week and said, "I think we are close to that".

Just days after saying that strike action could happen due to an increase in games, Rodri was then reportedly ruled out for the season with an ACL injury sustained against Arsenal.

The last two seasons have seen Rodri's City side play 120 times across all competitions and the addition of the Club World Cup next summer will see at least an extra four games.

Now the latest odds say there's a 4/1 chance of players refusing to play before the season ends after the Club World Cup in June next year.

What the expert says...
Current odds now say there's a 20% chance of Premier League players striking before the end of the season after Rodri's striking comments last week were then followed by the player suffering a season-ending ACL injury against Arsenal.

Rodri's injury followed his comments made last week that discussed striking

Rodri's comments last week were then followed by a season-ending injury on Sunday with the Spanish midfielder suffering an ACL injury against title rivals Arsenal.

Initial tests show that Rodri sustained an anterior cruciate ligament injury which would likely see him miss the rest of the Premier League season and denting City's title hopes in the process.

City have struggled without Rodri in the past, losing all three of the games he was suspended for last season, but they have started this season with four wins out of four without him.

Arsenal's odds shorten to win the Premier League after Rodri's injury in 2-2 draw vs Man City on Sunday

Arsenal have now been backed into 6/4 to win the Premier League following Rodri's injury against them at the Etihad on Sunday.

City fought against 10-man Arsenal to equalise in the 97th minute but will be frustrated that they only managed to score once against the Gunners in the second half.

Rodri's injury though is the main thing that comes out of that game for City fans and he will be a massive loss with no real replacement for him in the City squad.

Mateo Kovacic and Ilkay Gundogan will be the defensive covers in midfield and it may even be that we see John Stones step into a midfield role.
