Bookmakers and punters seem to agree there is little chance of a recession in 2022 as the money comes for the "NO" option and probability states an 83% chance that no recession will be recorded.

New betting odds based on the chances of a recession in the UK in 2022, give a huge vote of confidence that Rishi Sunak, the government and the Finance world can help avoid recession and offer odds of just 1.20 that it will be avoided, which translates into almost 83% probability no recession will happen.

Betting fans who feel there will be, can bet at odds of 5/2 on it happening, perhaps offsetting the effects for them personally should the UK sink into it.

What is the definition of Recession

A recession is considered a drop in GDP for two consecutive three-month periods, (Quarters) in a row.

The last time this happened in the UK was early in 2020, the first time it had happened since 2009.

Recession is generally bad news for everyone as there are fewer jobs, less profits, interest rates drop and inflation can rise.

Do not consider betting on a recession happening as a way of offsetting the situation however, Gambling is never a good practice or protection against a recession, and especially bad if betting more than you can afford to lose.

Prior to early 2020 there had not been an official recession since 2009. Betting odds suggest 2022 will not produce another with an 83% chance of avoidance according to bookmakers.

Rishi or Kier for PM?

It is still a neck-and-neck race for favouritism in the Next prime Minister betting race, with current chancellor Rishi Sunak sharing favouritism with Keir Starmer at the head of the betting. Stacing off recession will to the Tory MP no harm in possibly replacing Boris Johnson eventually as head of the Tory party, and probable Prime Minister duties.

Next Prime Minister Betting Odds

Odds Probability
Kier Starmer 4.5 22.22%
Rishi Sunak 4.7 21.28%
Liz Truss 10 10%
Michael Gove 17.5 5.71%
Jeremy Hunt 21 4.76%
