Golden Globes 2016

Postby stereoman » Sun Jan 10, 2016 5:00 am

A bit short notice as they're on Sunday night/Monday morning but hey, at least someone is coming up with odds and predictions right?

The best available odds with brief predictions from me & GoldDerby:

Best Picture - Drama:

Spotlight 2/7 (SkyBet)
The Revenant 11/2 (Boylesports)
Carol 12/1 (bet365/Boylesports)
Mad Max: Fury Road 28/1 (Stan James)
Room 28/1 (Boylesports)

THOUGHTS: 'Spotlight' seems the default frontrunner for the Oscars (even if it is a shaky one) and unless the HFPA think differently like they occasionally do (like going for 'The Grand Budapest Hotel' over 'Birdman' last year) then 'Spotlight' has this in the bag.

It's fairly prohibitive odds though but it should win. 'The Revenant' is opening in the US this weekend to $40 million but that shouldn't make any bit of difference.

MY PREDICTION: 'Spotlight'
GOLDERBY EXPERTS: 'Spotlight'
GOLDDERBY EDITORS: 'Spotlight'

http://www.goldderby.com/awardshows/exp ... drama.html
http://www.goldderby.com/awardshows/edi ... drama.html

Best Picture - Comedy/Musical:

The Big Short 4/6 (Stan James)
The Martian 7/4 (bet365/Boylesports)
Joy 10/1 (Ladbrokes)
Trainwreck 33/1 (Boylesports)
Spy 100/1 (bet365)

THOUGHTS: When the nominations were announced it seemed slightly suspect that 'The Martian' was in this category but money made it the favourite BUT THEN the critics' prizes came in for 'The Big Short' as did the money making it the favourite from third favourite. The HFPA could look very silly giving this to 'The Martian'.

'The Big Short' is on it's way to challenging 'Spotlight' for the big prizes at the Oscars and this should be the start of taking it VERY seriously.

'Joy' has no traction. Doubt there'll be a nasty surprise like last year.

MY PREDICTION: 'The Big Short'
GOLDERBY EXPERTS: 'The Big Short'
GOLDDERBY EDITORS: 'The Big Short'

http://www.goldderby.com/awardshows/exp ... sical.html
http://www.goldderby.com/awardshows/edi ... sical.html

Best Director:

Ridley Scott (The Martian) 13/10 (10 Bet)
Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu (The Revenant) 11/4 (bet365/William Hill)
Thomas McCarthy (Spotlight) 5/ (bet365/Boylesports/Ladbrokes/William Hill)
George Miller (Mad Max: Fury Road) 6/1 (SkyBet/Stan James)
Todd Haynes (Carol) 25/1 (Boylesports/Paddy Power)

THOUGHTS: Well even though George Miller has been hoovering up a lot of critics' prizes, it seems the money is firmly on Ridley Scott to take it instead. I'd usually take this as a sign that 'somebody knows something and thus has bet accordingly' and like Ridley can't lose BUT even though this is likely to happen, I do feel the HFPA will want to spread the prizes around and the best way to reward 'Mad Max: Fury Road' is likely here.

Giving 'The Martian' up to three awards seems like overkill.

MY PREDICTION: George Miller
GOLDERBY EXPERTS: Ridley Scott
GOLDDERBY EDITORS: Ridley Scott

Best Actor - Drama:

Leonardo DiCaprio (The Revenant) 1/6 (Stan James)
Michael Fassbender (Steve Jobs) 6/1 (Boylesports/Ladbrokes/Unibet/William Hill)
Eddie Redmayne (The Danish Girl) 18/1 (Boylesports)
Bryan Cranston (Trumbo) 25/1 (general)
Will Smith (Concussion) 50/1 (Boylesports/Unibet)

THOUGHTS: Unless the HFPA really have a loathing of Leonardo then he seems 'unbeatable'. Can't state a case for any of the others causing an upset even the early favourite that was Michael Fassbender.

Very prohibitive odds. Doubt an upset happens here.

MY PREDICTION: Leonardo DiCaprio
GOLDERBY EXPERTS: Leonardo DiCaprio
GOLDDERBY EDITORS: Leonardo DiCaprio

http://www.goldderby.com/awardshows/exp ... actor.html

Best Actress - Drama:

Brie Larson (Room) 4/7 (SkyBet/William Hill)
Cate Blanchett (Carol) 4/1 (general)
Saoirse Ronan (Brooklyn) 15/2 (Stan James)
Rooney Mara (Carol) 16/1 (bet365/Boylesports/Ladbrokes)
Alicia Vikander (The Danish Girl) 28/1 (Boylesports)

THOUGHTS: Brie Larson has seemingly been winning most of the arty prizes but I am slightly concerned that there's been a bit of money on Saoirse Ronan.

It's put me off having a lumpy bet on Brie Larson who should still win but is no certainty. Cate Blanchett's won fairly recently and isn't in 'undeniable' form like she was for 'Blue Jasmine'. Rooney Mara and Alicia Vikander are suffering from 'category confusion' that the SAG awards and the BAFTA awards struggle with as well.

MY PREDICTION: Brie Larson
GOLDERBY EXPERTS: Brie Larson
GOLDDERBY EDITORS: Brie Larson

http://www.goldderby.com/awardshows/exp ... tress.html
http://www.goldderby.com/awardshows/edi ... tress.html

Best Actor - Comedy/Musical: (all odds from Unibet)

Matt Damon (The Martian) 1/5
Al Pacino (Danny Collins) 6/1
Steve Carell 10/1 (The Big Short) 10/1
Christian Bale (The Big Short) 12/1
Mark Ruffalo (Infinitely Polar Bear) 30/1

THOUGHTS: I wouldn't be betting on Matt Damon at such low odds even if he is seemingly most likely. The late surge of support for 'The Big Short' elsewhere could mean the HFPA do an 'about face' and give a surprise win for Steve Carell (has never won a GG!) or Christian Bale (vying for Supporting Actor at BAFTA!).

MY PREDICTION: Matt Damon
GOLDERBY EXPERTS: Matt Damon
GOLDDERBY EDITORS: Matt Damon

http://www.goldderby.com/awardshows/exp ... actor.html
http://www.goldderby.com/awardshows/edi ... actor.html

Best Actress - Comedy/Musical: (all odds from Unibet)

Amy Schumer (Trainwreck) 'evens'
Jennifer Lawrence (Joy) 6/4
Lily Tomlin (Grandma) 4/1
Maggie Smith (The Lady in the Van) 14/1
Melissa McCarthy (Spy) 20/1

THOUGHTS: If 'Joy' was a much stronger contender at say, BAFTA and various guild awards then this would've been a shoo-in for J-Law. As it is, it isn't so I'm not touching this with a proverbial bargepole. The HFPA love their ingenues and out of these lot, that'll be Jennifer Lawrence. Amy Schumer's momentum within Hollywood is 'undeniable' right now but it doesn't mean the HFPA will go for her even if money supporting her suggests she might win here.

There's also the delicious narrative of Maggie Smith making the rare trek to the USA and Los Angeles in particular just to turn up at the ceremony. Will they deny her a win just because she decided to turn up?

It's odd criteria as to who wins one of these things but it does happen. No firm opinion on who should win this...ip, dip...

MY PREDICTION: Jennifer Lawrence
GOLDERBY EXPERTS: Amy Schumer
GOLDDERBY EDITORS: Amy Schumer

Best Supporting Actor: (all odds from Unibet)

Sylvester Stallone (Creed) 'evens'
Idris Elba (Beasts of No Nation) 7/4
Mark Rylance (Bridge of Spies) 5/2
Paul Dano (Love & Mercy) 20/1
Michael Shannon (99 Homes) 30/1

THOUGHTS: The idea here is that the HFPA won't be able to resist rewarding a legend. Quite possibly but Sly has no BAFTA or SAG nominations and the HFPA may feel silly in anointing him but they occasionally give 'gifts' out to folks like Clive Owen for 'Closer' back in 2005 and sometimes that can give momentum for an Oscar nomination.

Doubt it happens. Feel the HFPA will want to 'play safe' and give it to one of Idris Elba or Mark Rylance who have been two of the few non-changing variables in this category across various awards groups. Feel the edge is for Mark Rylance though.

MY PREDICTION: Mark Rylance
GOLDERBY EXPERTS: Sylvester Stallone
GOLDDERBY EDITORS: Sylvester Stallone

http://www.goldderby.com/awardshows/exp ... actor.html
http://www.goldderby.com/awardshows/edi ... actor.html

Best Supporting Actress: (all odds from Unibet)

Alicia Vikander (Ex Machina) 6/4
Jennifer Jason Leigh (The Hateful Eight) 7/4
Kate Winslet (Steve Jobs) 9/4
Helen Mirren (Trumbo) 8/1
Jane Fonda (Youth) 20/1

THOUGHTS: Who's the ingenue here? It's Alicia Vikander. It's a crafty way to reward her and BAFTA have kind of allowed to happen even if the SAG awards haven't so the HFPA shouldn't be embarrassed if she does win.

Unless the love for JJL or Kate Winslet is more than I thought it was then I'm plumping for Alicia Vikander.

MY PREDICTION: Alicia Vikander
GOLDERBY EXPERTS: Alicia Vikander but only just!
GOLDDERBY EDITORS: Alicia Vikander but only just!

http://www.goldderby.com/awardshows/exp ... tress.html
http://www.goldderby.com/awardshows/edi ... tress.html

Best Screenplay: (all odds from Unibet)

Spotlight 2/5
Steve Jobs 9/2
The Big Short 5/1
The Hateful Eight 16/1
Room 16/1

THOUGHTS: Usually this is the 'sorry you didn't win a major prize' award which likely gives 'Steve Jobs', 'The Hateful Eight' and even 'Room' a slight chance.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Golden_Gl ... play#2010s

Am predicting a 'surprise' and that there will be love for 'The Big Short' even though 'Spotlight' won't be fading fast and is probably the more likely winner.

MY PREDICTION: The Big Short
GOLDERBY EXPERTS: Spotlight
GOLDDERBY EDITORS: Spotlight

http://www.goldderby.com/awardshows/exp ... nplay.html
http://www.goldderby.com/awardshows/edi ... nplay.html

Best Original Score: (all odds from Unibet)

Carol 18/25
The Hateful Eight 7/4
The Revenant 10/1
The Danish Girl 4/1
Steve Jobs 16/1

THOUGHTS: The HFPA go their own way more often than not.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Golden_Gl ... inal_Score

Feel this is a battle of rewarding 'Carol' and their love for Ennio Morricone. Feel the latter will overcome the former and 7/4 is worth a small tickle to find out if it happens. This could be a VERY bad night for 'Carol'.

MY PREDICTION: The Hateful Eight
GOLDERBY EXPERTS: The Hateful Eight
GOLDDERBY EDITORS: Carol but only just!

Best Original Song: (all odds from Unibet)

One Kind of Love (Love & Mercy) 13/20
See You Again (Furious 7) 23/20
Love Me Like You Do (Fifty Shades of Grey) 9/1
Writing's on the Wall (Spectre) 16/1
Simple Song #3 (Youth) 33/1

THOUGHTS: The 'Love & Mercy' song isn't eligible for the Oscars but that might stop the HFPA from rewarding it. Feel 'See You Again' is very viable for making the room having to applaud as the winners start to eulogize about Paul Walker...it'll almost certainly happen.

A battle of generations and I feel the younger generation will win.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Golden_Gl ... Song#2010s

MY PREDICTION: See You Again
GOLDERBY EXPERTS: One Kind of Love but only just!
GOLDDERBY EDITORS: One Kind of Love

Best Animated Feature:

Inside Out 1/10 (general)
Anomalisa 8/1 (bet365/BetVictor/Paddy Power)
The Good Dinosaur 14/1 (bet365)
The Peanuts Movie 40/1 (bet365)
Shaun the Sheep Movie 50/1 (bet365/Unibet)

THOUGHTS: 'Inside Out' pure and simple unless the ever so 'artsiness' of 'Anomalisa' has somehow won the HFPA over.

MY PREDICTION: Inside Out
GOLDERBY EXPERTS: Inside Out
GOLDDERBY EDITORS: Inside Out

http://www.goldderby.com/awardshows/exp ... ature.html
http://www.goldderby.com/awardshows/edi ... ature.html

Best Foreign Language Film: (all odds from Unibet)

Son of Saul 1/9
Mustang 8/1
The Club 12/1
The Brand New Testament 20/1
The Fencer 30/1

THOUGHTS: What's 'Son of Saul' about? It involves WW2 and the Holocaust...look no further. Absolute catnip to the HFPA and the Oscars. Everybody else can go home.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Golden_Gl ... 0.E2.80.93

MY PREDICTION: Son of Saul
GOLDERBY EXPERTS: Son of Saul
GOLDDERBY EDITORS: Son of Saul

http://www.goldderby.com/awardshows/exp ... -film.html
http://www.goldderby.com/awardshows/edi ... -film.html

So in conclusion? Not many odds against winners to be had and some of the odds-on shots are fraught with danger.

Might cover the TV categories later but my head's a bit scrambled as there are so many ways it could turn out but hey, noting the odds and what not at least!

Great post!

I'm staying away from the Globes and saving myself for the Oscar nominations on Friday and also the Baftas.

Is there any Ricky Gervais as the host doing something wrong specials?

Good luck!

All odds from Unibet as other bookies concentrate on the film awards.

Best Drama Series:

Mr. Robot 21/50
Empire 4/1
Game of Thrones 6/1
Narcos 12/1
Outlander 16/1

THOUGHTS: 'Game of Thrones' has never won and prior to tonight has only been nominated TWICE before. The hot new shows are 'Mr. Robot', 'Narcos;' and 'Outlander' with 'Mr. Robot' arguably the hottest.

Expect the HFPA not being able to resist jumping on the proverbial bandwagon.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Golden_Gl ... rama#2010s

MY PREDICTION: Mr. Robot
GOLDDERBY EXPERTS: Mr. Robot
GOLDDERBY EDITORS: Mr. Robot

http://www.goldderby.com/awardshows/exp ... eries.html
http://www.goldderby.com/awardshows/edi ... eries.html

Best Comedy Series:

Transparent 3/5
Veep 4/1
Mozart in the Jungle 11/2
Silicon Valley 8/1
Casual 10/1
Orange is the New Black 12/1

THOUGHTS: 'Transparent' is the reigning champion but they love being kingmakers and jumping on the bandwagon as to what the 'hot new thing' is. If that's the case then 'Mozart in the Jungle' and 'Casual' are your likely winners.

11/2 is so juicy for 'Mozart in the Jungle'. Watched the pilot but didn't stick around to pay for Amazon Prime. Will take a speculative punt and hope for the best that 'Transparent' isn't all-conquering.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Golden_Gl ... medy#2010s

MY PREDICTION: Mozart in the Jungle
GOLDDERBY EXPERTS: Transparent
GOLDDERBY EDITORS: Mozart in the Jungle but only just!

Best Miniseries or Television Film:

Fargo 1/9
Wolf Hall 8/1
American Crime 10/1
American Horror Story: Hotel 15/1
Flesh & Bone 16/1

THOUGHTS: 'Fargo' all the way unless they go snobby and go for 'Wolf Hall'. At these odds I'm not betting though.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Golden_Gl ... Film#2010s

MY PREDICTION: Fargo

Have to hurry as Unibet shuts up shop at midnight.

Best Actor in a Television Drama Series:

Rami Malek (Mr. Robot) 18/25
Jon Hamm (Mad Men) 3/1
Wagner Moura (Narcos) 3/1
Bob Odenkirk (Better Call Saul) 11/1
Liev Schreiber (Ray Donovan) 16/1

THOUGHTS: Jon Hamm has NEVER won here so there may be a farewell gift for him.

Rami Malek is in the hot new show though. Will the HFPA be that generous to 'Mr. Robot' though? I'm betting NO!!".

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Golden_Gl ... rama#2010s

MY PREDICTION: Jon Hamm
GOLDDERBY EXPERTS: Rami Malek
GOLDDERBY EDITORS: Rami Malek

http://www.goldderby.com/awardshows/edi ... actor.html

Best Actress in a Television Drama Series:

Caitriona Balfe (Outlander) 11/10
Taraji P. Henson (Empire) 11/10
Viola Davis (How to Get Away with Murder) 4/1
Eva Green (Penny Dreadful) 15/1
Robin Wright (House of Cards) 16/1

THOUGHTS: I believe the people behind 'Outlander' have been schmoozing with the HFPA with behind-the-scenes tours and what not (can't find the newspaper article that says so but I'm sure it's on the internet). 'Mr. Robot' might win some of the big prizes but this seems a good place to reward 'Outlander'.

Not saying that the HFPA have anything against non-Caucasians but it'd be kind of nice if Henson or Davis won but I don't think it'll happen. *WHISTLES*

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Golden_Gl ... rama#2010s

MY PREDICTION: Caitriona Balfe
GOLDDERBY EXPERTS: Taraji P. Henson
GOLDDERBY EDITORS: Taraji P. Henson

Best Actor in a Television Comedy Series:

Jeffrey Tambor (Transparent) 6/4
Gael Garcia Bernal (Mozart in the Jungle) 7/4
Aziz Ansari (Master of None) 5/1
Patrick Stewart (Blunt Talk) 8/1
Rob Lowe (The Grinder) 10/1

THOUGHTS: I feel the hot new thing here is Aziz Ansari. Just my opinion. I'm likely very wrong. The show itself should play very well with being about the first generation offspring of immigrants in the USA but will the HFPA go that way or stick with Jeffrey Tambor?

A very speculative bet on my behalf on Aziz Ansari causing an upset. I can kind of see the case for Gael Garcia Bernal but I simply don't agree.

MY PREDICTION: Aziz Ansari
GOLDDERBY EXPERTS: TIE!! between Jeffrey Tambor and Gael Garcia Bernal
GOLDDERBY EDITORS: Gael Garcia Bernal

http://www.goldderby.com/awardshows/exp ... actor.html
http://www.goldderby.com/awardshows/edi ... actor.html

Best Actress in a Television Comedy Series:

Julia Louis-Dreuyfus (Veep) 2/5
Jamie Lee Curtis (Scream Queens) 5/1
Lily Tomlin (Grace and Frankie) 6/1
Gina Rodriguez (Jane the Virgin) 10/1
Rachel Bloom (Crazy Ex-Girlfriend) 12/1

THOUGHTS: Julia has NEVER won here which seems bonkers considering she's 'unbeatable' at the Emmys. It's an election year...it might be the slightest of hints that Julia can ride this wave of support for Hillary Clinton and win just on the back of that,

I don't see Gina repeating but Rachel isn't the worst 12/1 shot on the night to cause an upset. If Rachel wins expect me to mope for not putting a sneaky tenner on like I'm want to do.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Golden_Gl ... medy#2010s#

In the last circuit and approaching the last few furlongs...

Best Actor in a Limited Series or Motion Picture Made for Television:

Patrick Wilson (Fargo) 6/4
David Oyelowo (Nightingale) 6/4
Idris Elba (Luther) 2/1
Mark Rylance (Wolf Hall) 6/4
Oscar Isaac (Show Me a Hero) 12/1

THOUGHTS: How much do they love 'Fargo'? I think they like Idris Elba more. Idris wins here, Mark Rylance wins the movie award. That's how I think it'll play out.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Golden_Gl ... Film#2010s

MY PREDICTION: Idris Elba
GOLDDERBY EXPERTS: Idris Elba
GOLDDERBY EDITORS: Idris Elba but only just!

http://www.goldderby.com/awardshows/exp ... actor.html
http://www.goldderby.com/awardshows/edi ... actor.html

Best Actress in a Limited Series or Motion Picture Made for Television:

Kirsten Dunst (Fargo) 1/5
Lady Gaga (American Horror Story: Hotel) 5/1
Queen Latifah (Bessie) 8/1
Felicity Huffman (American Crime) 10/1
Sarah hay (Flesh & Bone) 20/1

THOUGHTS: They aren't afraid to go out there what with not giving Frances McDormand a win last year. The consensus appears to be Kirsten Dunst but I feel the HFPA want a 'social media moment' and inexplicably go for Lady Gaga.

Everybody else seems 'old hat'.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Golden_Gl ... Film#2010s

MY PREDICTION: Lady Gaga
GOLDDERBY EXPERTS: Kirsten Dunst
GOLDDERBY EDITORS: Kirsten Dunst

http://www.goldderby.com/awardshows/edi ... tress.html

Best Supporting Actor – Series, Miniseries or Television Film:

Christian Slater (Mr. Robot) 4/5
Damian Lewis (Wolf Hall) 5/2
Tobias Menzies (Outlander) 7/2
Ben Mendelsohn (Bloodline) 8/1
Alan Cumming (The Good Wife) 20/1

THOUGHTS: How much do they like 'Mr. Robot' then? Could be a night of 'absolute crazy'. No bet but I wouldn't put anybody betting on Menzies or Mendelsohn. Absolute crapshoot what with Christian Slater a favourite (!?).

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Golden_Gl ... Film#2010s

MY PREDICTION: Tobias Menzies
GOLDDERBY EXPERTS: Ben Mendelsohn
GOLDDERBY EDITORS: Tobias Menzies but only just!

http://www.goldderby.com/awardshows/exp ... actor.html
http://www.goldderby.com/awardshows/edi ... actor.html

Best Supporting Actor – Series, Miniseries or Television Film:

Regina King (American Crime) 5/4
Uzo Aduba (Orange is the New Black) 5/2
Judith Light (Transparent) 3/1
Maura Tierney (The Affair) 4/1
Joanne Froggatt (Downton Abbey) 12/1

THOUGHTS: Will the HFPA want to play 'catch up' and anoint Regina King who won a surprise Emmy? They might but I'm betting against it. Joanne Froggatt is the reigning champion but hey, who really cares!?

Uzo Aduba has a strange habit of winning prizes and she's never won here. No bet but she is my prediction to win here.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Golden_Gl ... Film#2010s

MY PREDICTION: Uzo Aduba
GOLDDERBY EXPERTS: Regina King
GOLDDERBY EDITORS: Regina King but only just!

The winners so far...

Best Supporting Actress: Kate Winslet (Steve Jobs) 9/4

The idea that Kate wins two Oscars for two really wretched roles would be amazing. Great actress, love her but hate 'The Reader' and 'Steve Jobs'. Poor Alicia and Jennifer.

Best Supporting Actress – Series, Miniseries or Television Film: Maura Tierney (The Affair) 4/1

Do the HFPA hate black people? I honestly can't remember the last time that a black person won a Golden Globe.

Best Actress in a Television Comedy Series: Rachel Bloom (Crazy Ex Girlfriend)

(CUE: Moping that I didn't put a sneaky tenner on Rachel Bloom at 12/1)

Best Comedy Series: Mozart in the Jungle 11/2

No smoke without fire. Hey, hey, hey.

Best Miniseries or Television Film: Wolf Hall 8/1
Best Actor in a Limited Series or Motion Picture Made for Television: Oscar Isaac (Show Me a Hero) 12/1

OMG. How many of the HFPA have an account with Unibet!?

Best Supporting Actor – Series, Miniseries or Television Film: Christian Slater (Mr. Robot) 4/5

The first odds-on shot comes in. I didn't believe it could happen. Meh.

Best Original Score: The Hateful Eight 7/4

Could be a VERY bad night for 'Carol' indeed.

Continuing in order of being announced...

Best Actor in a Television Drama Series: Jon Hamm (Mad Men) 3/1

Knew it! Didn't bet on it! "FOR SHAME!!" Forgot he won in 2007...the Wikipedia layout fooled me.

Best Actor - Comedy/Musical: Matt Damon (The Martian) 1/5

No surprise. If you were in on the ground floor at 'evens' than you were laughing.

Best Animated Feature: Inside Out 1/10

Well...obviously.

Best Supporting Actor: Sylvester Stallone (Creed) 'evens'

D'OH!! We'll see if AMPAS give him a nomination in a few days time. I don't think he'll get it though.

Best Screenplay: Steve Jobs 9/2

They do love them some Aaron Sorkin but wow, what a surprise. Cynics pointing out that as it's a Universal film on an awards show on NBC that 'in-house' wins are not surprising.

Best Actor in a Television Comedy Series: Gael Garcia Bernal (Mozart in the Jungle) 7/4

The wrong kind of surprise for me. Even Aziz Ansari got the wrong person who'd beat him.

...and onwards it continues...

Best Foreign Language Film: Son of Saul 1/9

No surprise. Looks ominous for the Oscar.

Best Actress in a Limited Series or Motion Picture Made for Television: Lady Gaga (American Horror Story: Hotel) 5/1

No surprise to me. More of a surprise to people thinking Kirsten Dunst or anybody else would win. "THIS IS THE GOLDEN GLOBES, PEOPLE!!"

Best Original Song: Writing's on the Wall (Spectre) 16/1

WHUT!? It's a horrible song. Feel they won't nominate it for the Oscar though continuing a long-standing 'winning means nothing' attitude in this category.

Best Drama Series: Mr. Robot 21/50

They could hardly resist jumping on the bandwagon...and who can blame them!?

Best Director: Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu (The Revenant) 11/4

UGH!! A make up win for not winning in previous years, I'm guessing. I hate the HFPA with a passion now. Foiled the Ridley Scott gamble which I have no idea how that happened.

Best Actress in a Television Drama Series: Taraji P. Henson (Empire) 11/10

Oh...here's a black winner at last. All the schmoozing that the 'Outlander' folks did only worked to get nominations. Meh.

Best Actress - Comedy/Musical: Jennifer Lawrence (Joy) 6/4

She's the 'prestige' pick of the five ahead of even Maggie Smith so superficially 'no surprise' she won. They love her even more than I do. *COUGH*
