Golf Tips - 'Player of The Week' 2021 (W/B 25th October)

Postby PompeyJim » Mon Oct 25, 2021 3:32 pm

Welcome to Week 43 of Player of the Week 2021, hope everyone are keeping safe and well.

Jin-Young Ko (yearly pick) won the BMW Ladies Championship for Caliace last week!

There are three tournaments this week featuring the PGA Tour's Bermuda Championship.

If you have not played in previous weeks then please feel free to come and have a go, below are the competition rules and scoring.

Player of the Week 2021:

In addition to a weekly selection we are asking members to nominate a golfer to follow for the year, once you have submitted your golfer to follow for the year ahead you do not need to post he/she every time you enter a weekly pick.

We will confirm each week with the weekly selections if your golfer to follow for the year is active.

The golfer to follow for the year can be from any of the recognised tours and a selection will be required when members post their first weekly entry for 2021. This selection will earn points every time they win or finish runner up in a tournament, in addition to any potential points from the weekly selection.

*Your 'Golfer to Follow for the Year' selection can also be a weekly pick at any time you wish throughout the season, scoring will be the usual weekly points criteria plus 100 points if he/she wins the tournament or 50 points for finishing runner up.

The competition scoring is detailed below.

A key factor in the feedback from OLBG golf fans following ‘Player of the Week’ is the analysis which accompanies a member's selection so we require at least 50 WORDS explaining why you think your golfer is a good bet, this is just a few lines and extremely useful for readers looking to follow your selection.

- For your first entry of 2021 we require your 'Golfer to Follow' for the year AND your selection for that week.
- After a 'Golfer to Follow' has been submitted it will then be ONE selection per week, with at least 50 words explaining your pick.
- The same golfer CAN be selected even if he/she has already been picked by another member.
- If your player withdraws BEFORE the tournament starts you can select a new pick as long as it is received before the cut off for entries.
- Deadline for entries each week will be the first tee off time of the tournament your player is competing.

- Tournament Winner = 100 points
- 2nd = 50 points
- 3rd = 25 points
- 4th = 20 points
- 5th = 15 points
- 6th to 10th = 10 points

- Tournament Winner = 100 points
- Tournament Runner Up = 50 points

* No other additional points (top 5, top 10, odds, leader, cut, etc) will be awarded for this pick.

- Below 10/1 = No bonus points
- 10/1 to 19/1 = (WIN) 5 points, (Top 5) 0 points
- 20/1 to 29/1 = (WIN) 10 points, (Top 5) 5 points
- 30/1 to 39/1 = (WIN) 20 points, (Top 5) 10 points
- 40/1 to 49/1 = (WIN) 30 points, (Top 5) 15 points
- 50/1 to 99/1 = (WIN) 40 points, (Top 5) 20 points
- 100/1 plus = (WIN) 50 points, (Top 5) 25 points

- **54 hole leader = 9 points
- First Round Leader = 7 points
- Made The Cut = 5 points

**Includes 36 hole leader for three round events like on the Champions Tour.

Dead Heat rules do not apply where there are place ties for point scoring, full points will be awarded.

All points will be doubled (including for Golfer of the Year picks) for the 4 majors (US Masters, The US Open, The Open Championship and the USPGA Championship)

Ryder Cup

There will be a Ryder Cup Competition with a separate prize and points will count in the Weekly Competition. The Ryder Cup is scheduled for 24th to 26th September 2021.

£15 to the Winner, this will be the member with the highest points total at the end of the year/final tournament week.
£5 to the Runner up.

- DUBAI MOONLIGHT CLASSIC (Ladies European Tour) Entry deadline 1 pm Wednesday
- ISPS HANDA GATSU-N TO TOBASE TOUR/b] (Japan Tour) Entry deadline 1 am Thursday
- BERMUDA CHAMPIONSHIP (PGA Tour) Entry deadline 12 pm Thursday

Please add your pick using the template style below so your selection and tournament is clear for readers looking to follow your pick. Please also include your 'Golfer to Follow for the Year' with your first entry (you don't need to include this pick every week).

Please feel free to ask any questions and it will be great to see as many members as possible post a selection each week and a golfer to follow for the year.

Also you can join in at any time, don’t worry if you miss a week or did not post the first week etc..

Good luck!

PLAYER: Ariya Jutanugarn 7/1

TOURNAMENT: Dubai Moonlight (LET)

Ariya is a solid value this week. Always a variable player, but in good form now and a bit overdue for another win. T12 last week, and I'm especially encouraged by the consistency of her rounds. That's the sort of play we see when she wins. Thitikul has even lower odds and had had a very consistent season, but she is coming off a long break. Whatever you do this week... Bet Thailand for this event! Pajaree is the next best value after Ariya IMO. Good luck all!

PLAYER: Hayden Buckley

Hayden Buckley 30/1 won once on the Korn Ferry tour last season and obtained another four top 10 finishes. He has performed well in both of his latest PGA events as he was jt 4th at the Sandersons Farm Championship and then came jt 8th at the Shriners Children Open and he was ranked in the top 5 in the greens in regulation stats in both of those events which is encouraging for his chances this week in Bermuda. This week's short course is usually quite easy to play on ( winning score was - 15 last year and - 24 in 2019 ) if the weather is not windy so I am hopeful of a good performance from him here.

Player - Mito Pereira (25/1)

Tournament - Bermuda Championship

Reasons for Support -

The Chilean won twice on the Korn Ferry Tour in June and was fast tracked onto the PGA Tour. He has since posted finishes of tied 5th in the Barbasol Championship, tied 6th in the 3M Open, tied 4th at The Olympic Games and 3rd at the Fortinet Championship. I am backing Mito Pereira goes well in this weakened field and challenges for his maiden PGA Tour win in Bermuda. The 26 year old who went to college in Texas where it can get windy is best price 25/1 with bet365 and William Hill and he is definitely one of the favourites this week with a lot of big names not in the field.

Player - Ryan Armour 55/1

Tournament - Bermuda Championship

Reasons for support -

Tied 8th in the Bermuda Championship last season in November after having a brilliant opening round of 64 on the Thursday. The American has made three cuts in his last four starts on the PGA Tour and was tied 6th at the 3M Open and tied 5th at the Barbasol Championship aswell as tied 8th in the Palmetto Championship so he has been in form and contending in events just like this one. I am tipping Ryan Armour has a very good week in the Bermuda Championship and is in contention come the closing stretch of holes on Sunday.

Player - Hank Lebioda (50/1)

Tournament - Bermuda Championship

Reasons for Support -

The American posted three straight top ten finishes earlier this year at the Travelers Championship, Rocket Mortgage Classic and John Deere Classic and twelve months ago he was tied 16th at the Butterfield Bermuda Championship. A second round 72 cost Lebioda that week as the other three days seen rounds of 68 or better and I fancy he contends this week back at a course that suits his eye. Betfred are the best industry price this week with 50/1 and Its each way value in a weakened field at Port Royal Golf Club in Southampton Parish.

It seems like this tournament is starting this afternoon at 3pm, so I hope this selection is good:

PLAYER: Atthaya Thitikul @5.50 (bet365)

TOURNAMENT: Dubai Moonlight (LET)

REASON FOR SUPPORT: Thitikul has certainly been the most consistent player on the European Tour during this season, being the leader of Race to Costa del Sol, and has collected some good results on LPGA Tour which is obviously more competitive than LET. She has finished out of the top-10 just once in the last 11 events she has played, also collecting 2 wins since last June and coming from a win at the Swiss Open in the last tournament at the beginning of September too. Thitikul can win again in my opinion.

Player: Mito Pereira 25-1 bet365

Event : Bermuda Championship

Reason for Support : I shall take a sporting pick on Mito who was in good form just before the Ryder Cup coming third to Max Homa in the Fortinet Championship and he had a T31 and T40 in the Sanderson Farm and The shiners, he should be fresher now three weeks later. He won three times on the Korn ferry tour and is adjusting well on the PGA Tour currently 15th on the fed-ex, his iron play is good and on a course that is short he can be in the mix. gl all
