The league features fourteen teams with a double round robin format during the regular season, meaning each of the teams plays fifty-two games.
Like many of the other European leagues, the top six head to the quarter finals of the playoffs, with the teams in 7th to 10th competing for the other two places.
The bottom two teams play in a one-off game known as a play-out, with the loser then going on to play a team from the Swiss League in an attempt to retain their place in the league.
