Warwick Racecourse Information

Until 2014, Warwick was a dual-code racecourse staging Flat and National Hunt racing. It was then that Jockey Club Racecourses made the decision to stage National Hunt racing only and to try and raise the profile by staging good quality jumps racing at Warwick Racecourse.

Warwick stages around 18 National Hunt fixtures a year from September through to May, and being a Midlands track located near the motorway network means it's usually well supported by trainers sending their runners from the West Country, Southern and central England and Wales.

Trainers based in the South West of England have sent out double the number of winners compared to the next best over the past 5 seasons.

Highlights: January and February are the key months for the course staging televised meetings that feature Cheltenham and Aintree pointers.

The Grade 3 Classic Chase run in January has occasionally fallen foul of the winter weather but has produced live Grand National contenders in recent seasons, with the likes of Milansbar and One For Arthur (2017 Grand National Winner) winning.

The Grade 2 Leamington Novices Hurdle was introduced in 2002 and already boasts an impressive roll of honour in the hurdling ranks. Winners have gone on to further success at the Cheltenham Festival and other grade 1 races.

The list includes Inglis Drever (Stayers Hurdle Winner), No Refuge, Carruthers, The New One, Thomas Hobson and Willoughby Court.

The Grade 2 Kingmaker Novices Chase run in February is another stepping stone for future champions and top-class chasers.

The role of honour includes Flagship Uberalles (Champion Chase Winner), Cenkos, Voy Por Ustedes, Long Run (Gold Cup Winner), Finians Rainbow and Flying Angel.

Warwick Track Guide & Tips

The bends are fairly tight at Warwick which tends to favour runners that race handily and getting into a good jumping rhythm is beneficial as the fences on the chase course come at you fairly quickly especially down the back straight with five to be jumped and similar to the 'railway' fences at Sandown in that if you meet one wrong it can put pay to any chance of getting back into the race before the turn for home.
