Fair Dinkum gets the vote in what looks a fairly weak contest and appears one of the runners best suited to the expected conditions. Last time out he produced a solid effort over 1m4f at Salisbury Racecourse, finishing 2nd off 67 and beaten only a short head after racing prominently throughout. He was just denied late on and shaped as though a return to further distances would suit. His course form is particularly appealing. Last season he won a Class 4 handicap over 1m6f at Salisbury off 62, scoring by an impressive 4¼L in a 0-80 contest. Prior to that, he had won by 3¾L over the same distance at Bath Racecourse on soft ground, showing he handles testing conditions well. The handicapper has only raised him 1 lb to a mark of 68, which looks fair given his recent effort. Although he steps up in class, the forecast soft ground should place greater emphasis on stamina, and that could play directly to his strengths. With proven form at Salisbury, strong staying credentials and conditions likely to suit, Fair Dinkum looks to hold solid claims of going one better.
