I fancy Aiden O'Brien's runner to reverse National Stakes form with Zavateri, form which looks the best on offer here. He's gone close in two Group 1s and can make it third time lucky here.

Distant Storm beat Oxagon by five and a half lengths first time out in July but may find that colt one of his main dangers as he has obviously improved since then. But Distant Storm has also shown a liking for Newmarket by comfortably winning over course and distance in a Group 3 last time.

Zavateri is not a flashy horse, but he does know how to win races. His wins have all been franked, and he should get a good run with plenty of cover and then come with a run late on.

Race 4 at Newmarket today is the Darley Dewhurst Stakes - Group 1 for 2-year-olds over 1,408 m. The suggested wager is for the each way on the 2yo colt Oxagon from the John and Thady Gosden yard and will be ridden by Oisin Murphy. This son of Frankel is quickly turning into a top sort. After his maiden win, he almost won Gr2 at his 3rd start. With expected further improvement, he should be a top challenger here.

I'm going to have another go on Italy here for an each-way play. Wayne Lordan is up and comes from the A P O'Brien yard. He ran as a beaten favorite when third in a Curragh 7f maiden last time out. This is a Wootton Bassett colt from a yard with five wins in the last 10 runnings. He is progressive with a smart pedigree and should improve and holds an each-way claim here.

Looks a decent renewal to me, and if Zavateri wins, it could look obvious with hindsight. But I think Gewan has been written off too early after a poor run on soft ground last time. Prior to that, he was ridiculously impressive at York on quick ground when comfortably beating Italy. On a firmer surface here, I think he can bounce back to go very close.

Is the outsider of 3 from this top operation and also in the field of 9. However, not sure they should be, as they are beautifully bred in their won right and won on debut run over C/D in a class 4 novice, then ran very well in a Grp3 @ Sandown on unsuitable soft ground, before solid run in a Grp2 back here @ Newmarket over a mile. Did not get home on last 2 runs, so this 7f on this ground going to suit them much better, top class jockey up and master trainer who has an excellent record here last 5 seasons, best here with his 2yo's in same period @ 36 percent with a Lsp of 26.60, making current 28/1 very good Ew value, but hopefully SP will be a lot bigger.

A total blowout when 6th of 6 in the National Stakes at the Curragh in mid-September and was very disappointing. Won first 2 races at Sandown and Newmarket in good style and is obviously well thought of. Hung badly that day and may not have appreciated the course and the slower ground. Should show better here in good ground but is on a recovery mission.

This horse is unbeaten after just 2 starts. Won well in a big field at the Curragh last time out, and although upped markedly in class, Karl Burke's two-year-olds have performed remarkably well all season.
