5:00 Leicester Tips

On a very ordinary card at Leicester, American Style stands out as by far the best bet of the day. He has been contesting much better races than this and performing with distinction. His second at Newmarket behind Prince Of India looks very strong form, particularly following that one's victory at Ascot on Saturday.

Beaten twice by American Style this year, this lad now has an 8lb pull in the weights on them, and Danny has a 20% hit rate here over the last 5 years compared to Tom Eaves' 6%. Whilst it isn't all about the pair of them, it should be, and at the prices, I am happy to gamble that this lad overturns the form.

Ran well at York two starts ago when beaten less than a length over 6f from a mark of 82. Raced from a 3lb higher mark at Chester last time when beaten less than a length despite finishing 6th of 9, having been forced to race wide for most of the race. Can do a lot better here on a more conventional track.

I'm happy to avoid the hot favorite here (American Style), which looks way overbet to me. That means there's value to be had elsewhere. This one fits the bill with a jockey upgrade and a staying on 4th, which was full of promise last time out. He's been dropped another 2 lb to 75 now, and his maiden win on debut would clearly suggest he's an 80+ horse. So I'm more than happy with this 9/1 price in the early market.

Only collared very late on over seven furlongs at this track eighteen days ago, and should appreciate having a furlong less to travel today.

Lots of excuses so far in this ones short career, too far last time, reared at the start before that, pitched into a Group 2 on second start etc etc. This looks a much better assignement to get back on track and while it does come with risks the price makes this a decent bet I think.

Arran has shown flashes of quality in the past, including a close-run fourth at Leicester over 7f last time, and third at Windsor over 6f in his reappearance after a break after wind surgery. Previously, he campaigned at Group level before returning to handicap company. Likes the going, and can be a surprise if he gets the right run.
