John Dawson is making a name for himself with his small string and can boast a 38% strike rate in bumpers. His representative in this race is The Shanachie, who has a nice-looking pedigree. He is by Workforce and out of a Milan mare who is related to the Grade 2 performer Cole Harden.

Lady Bamburgh is a 5yo mare trained by Micky Hammond and ridden by Sean Quinlan. She was brought down about 4f out at Huntingdon on her bumper debut, so it is difficult to know how she would have fared. She is owned by Sharp Hill Thoroughbreds, who, from what I can tell, have had two other horses, both with Micky Hammond. They share an interesting fact: Bay Empress won on her bumper debut at Wetherby in February 2025 at 18-1 and was sold. They then had a horse called Thursdays Child who made her debut on the flat at Newcastle in a 7f maiden in March 2025 and won at 66-1, then won again on her second start at Pontefract at 8-1. So two horses trained by Micky Hammond won on debut for the same owners. Hammond is 16/239 with debutantes, showing a LSP of £131.75, and 12 in bumpers. He does well with mares: 7/65 wins, LSP £147.50. The last two horses to win were, oddly, Thursdays Child and Bay Empress. Lady Bamburgh is of significant interest.
