Mammies Boy is a speculative selection here, currently the outsider in a small field of six. Since joining the Nick Scholfield yard, he hasn’t shown much ??' pulling up twice and unseating last time ??' although he was still travelling reasonably well when coming down, which offers a small bit of encouragement. The case for him lies in his back form. He won a Class 3 handicap hurdle over 2m5f off 110, beating Prince Imperial (then rated 127), and also scored comfortably off 103 in a Class 4, beating Jaramillo, now rated 117. His earlier maiden form is also strong, including a 2nd to Afadil (now 118) and a 3rd behind Strong Leader, now rated 153. Today’s trip (2m5½f) and good ground should suit, and the blinkers ??' retained after last time ??' appeared to have a positive effect. In a race that doesn’t look strong, he’s risky but not without a chance if rediscovering his old form.
