Sweet William does not win very often, but he won the Doncaster Cup last season and has a good chance of defending his title. With few highly rated opponents, probably eight-year-old Coltrane, another former winner of this race, is his main rival.

Went off favourite for the Ebor and ran a cracker in defeat, which leaves it 6 lbs in receipt of the top contenders in this. But I truly think Mullins has this bang on for this race. It is a huge contender stepping up in trip. The other contenders are a lot more exposed, and I think this is one of the only ones in the race that'll show a light and day amount of improvement if all works out in favour. The weak pace gives it less of a challenge, especially given how well it travels and doesn't have any behavioural concerns, which is a major positive for this race.

Sir Mark Prescott likes to send a 3-year-old to Doncaster for this race. He won with a 6-year-old in 2015, but he has come close a couple of times with 3-year-olds. He sends Pendragon this time, who has been progressive but obviously needs to improve. Given this is not a great renewal, he is worth a shot.

The softer the ground, the better. But this is a pure ability and ground punt. It has the genuine ability to beat most of these, and even though it is exposed around 4 lbs behind the best here, I think it is worth taking at the price. It could also help force the pace, which could end up being beneficial in this race. I reckon this will happen here, or there is a very good chance. Another overpriced Balding horse that, all in all, has a great chance and is a proven Group 2 horse.
