Thirteen races have passed since the last victory in 2023. With a tongue strap applied for the first time, he finished 8th in a handicap at Ayr 39 days ago. However, his form was steady before that, including a 2nd place finish over the same distance in the race prior. The jockey's 5lb claim could lead to a resurgence, and at 16/1, an each-way wager appears to be a worthwhile investment.

Has finished 2nd in his last two outings, both in the same class 5 as today, the latest only 16 days ago with a rating of 69. Has yet to encounter soft/heavy going, which looks like he'll be on today, but has won on Wolves AW and has Kyllachy in his bloodline (I'm no expert, but I see it as a plus). Rating nudges up one point today to 70 but is only a 3-Y-O, so improvement to come. Interesting jockey change with C Rodriguez taking over on board.

A Declan Carroll trained 9-year-old who has had 45 races on the flat, winning 8 times and has finished in the frame 11 times. He won last time out here at Beverley on a class 5 handicap over 1m 4f on good to firm going, ridden by today's jockey Zak Wheatley, claiming 3 lbs when leading inside the final furlong to win by 2 lengths. He is back in a class 5 handicap over 1m 2f on soft going and is racing off top weight. This gelding races on this course regularly and has won 2 of his last 4 visits, winning in July over 7 1/2 on good going. He did run flat 6 days later over today's distance of 1m 2f on soft going, finishing 6th of the 7 runners, beaten 9 1/4 lengths. Has a decent e/w shout if the going is not too soft.

This unexposed Kingman gelding makes his debut for a stable here that does well when bringing horses in from other yards. The horse's best two runs to date were on good to soft and soft, so there's plenty of cause for optimism here. His debut run on soft was a 4th in a hot novice race at York, and it's easy to make a case for him being a mid-70s horse on that evidence. He was then placed on good to soft when 3rd of 11 off 69, so he could well go very close here on soft ground off just 66.

Star Start has two wins and a 2nd in his last four races, including a win here at Beverley when he dead-heated with Poet's Dawn, and he has gone on to win since. He has two wins and two 2nds from his four runs here, with three of those runs over today's distance on GF and Soft going. He stumbled and fell last time and hopefully has recovered from that. Usually ridden by an amateur, but has James Sullivan in the plate, and he rode a winner at Wolverhampton yesterday.

With the ground likely to be quite testing, I suspect Powerful Response may do a lot better than the market suggests. A recent run has likely thrown the cobwebs off, and there is form on giving ground.

DANDY'S ANGEL will be suited by the rise in trip and drop in grade, in addition to having a great record here at Beverley and versatility when it comes to the going. Mark looks workable and there's plenty of boxes ticked so I think she's a mare worth playing. We've got an extra place to go for as well.
