The manner of that victory suggested he had more in hand than the winning margin. He returns to Beverley from a mark of 76, just 3 lb higher than for that success, which looks fair given how comfortably he won. The race also appears to contain plenty of early pace, and that could play into his hands. Usually ridden with patience, he should be able to sit off the leaders before delivering a late challenge. Back at a track and trip that clearly suit, and with conditions likely to be in his favour, Mao Shang Wong looks to have strong claims of getting back to winning ways.
