It looked as though Kopek Des Bordes was going to take over the Arkle at the final fence at the Cheltenham Festival, but he pecked on landing, lost momentum, and was never really able to recover, gifting the race to Kargese. He has had an interrupted preparation in his first season over fences, winning impressively at Navan before picking up an injury and going straight to the Festival without a run under his belt, so he did well in the circumstances. Last year’s Supreme winner should strip fitter for that run and arrives here fresher than most. He is clear on official ratings and should be hard to beat with a clear round of jumping.
