Xander Schauffele

I choose Xander Schauffele because his fully well-rounded game and consistent, elite Total Strokes Gained profile make him a statistical lock for contention in any field. The no-cut event minimizes risk, and his playing style??'high driving accuracy and sound ball-striking??'travels well to international, unknown courses, giving him a high probability ceiling.

Collin Morikawa
3 / 6 Win Tips50%2 commentsWIN @
I choose Collin Morikawa as the favorite because his world-class Strokes Gained: Approach is the single most critical factor on a demanding, newly introduced course like Yokohama CC, especially with potential wind and rain. His victory in Japan in 2023 proves his comfort and H2H advantage in the region. The no-cut format favors consistent elite ball-strikers, which is his primary style and tactical strength.

Hideki Matsuyama

Hideki brings course-knowledge DNA and major-pressure experience. When conditions firm up or the course needs precise ball-striking, Hideki’s patience and short-game rescue shots usually kick in. Expect a steely, composed week from him ??' not flashy, but quietly efficient enough to land inside the top six.

Alex Noren isn’t the loudest name, but his statistical profile (approach play, par-saves) matches the kind of week that rewards steady scoring. If winds or tricky pins make putting secondary to hitting approaches, Noren’s course management and scrambling punch above his price and should thread into a top-6 finish.

Kurt is boom-or-bust but tilts toward “boom” on courses where long, airborne approaches and creativity around the greens matter. He’s flashed strong form and can birdie strings unexpectedly; include him as a high-upside top-6 contender ??' especially if tee-to-green metrics (distance + accuracy combo) show up.

Rasmus blends youthful aggression with improving short-game touch. In the last several starts he’s shown a string of solid rounds and high SG:OTT/APP weeks; that consistency plus a calm temperament gives him a genuine shot at a top-6 result, particularly if he keeps mistakes to a minimum across four rounds.

Been superb here the past couple of seasons with a 2nd place finish back in 2023 on eight under when unable to close ground on a superb Collin Morikawa. 6th last year on a more improved score of thirteen under, where a par round on the 3rd day probably cost him a chance at the title again. 9th last week in the Sanderson Farms Championship could just be ideal prep.

Xander feels like the safe short list pick this week: his ball-striking and iron approach numbers have returned to form, and he’s the market favorite, which reflects both recent top-10 finishes and course compatibility. I expect him to contend for the title and finish inside the top six.

Hideki tends to start crisply when conditions are calm and the pins are accessible; his experience on similar layouts plus the comfort of playing in front of supportive crowds can spark a low opening round. He’s a first-round leader candidate because he blends patience with the ability to knock down birdie opportunities early.

I choose Chris Gotterup because his power driving (Top 3 SG: Off-the-Tee) and high confidence post-win can lead to an aggressive, front-running opening round. His ability to create short iron approaches is an elite tactic for a low FRL score, and his strong ball-striking mitigates some of the course's approach difficulty.

Adam Scott
0 / 3 Win Tips0%Garrick Higgo
0 / 3 Win Tips0%1 commentEW @
I choose Garrick Higgo for FRL because his very recent, explosive form (2nd at Sanderson Farms) and elite putting are the engine for a low score. His aggressive playing style and high Birdie-or-Better conversion rate mean a hot putter on Thursday will likely produce the lowest score, giving him the statistical FRL edge.

I choose Min Woo Lee due to his highly volatile but high-ceiling playing style, which is perfect for an FRL dart. His Total SG ranks well, and the motivation to perform in Asia again provides context for an aggressive, low opening score. His capacity for high Birdie-or-Better conversion outweighs his risk profile for one round.
