Nigeria v Mozambique Tips

While Nigeria have won all their matches in the Africa Cup of Nations so far, Mozambique have already lost twice (to Cameroon and Ivory Coast). Nigeria have found the net in their last 11 matches. Mozambique have kept a clean sheet only twice in their last 12 matches (against Somalia and Botswana). This is clearly a huge mismatch. Expect Nigeria to win comfortably.

Nigeria are overwhelming favourites in this AFCON Round of 16 tie thanks to a perfect group-stage record with eight goals scored and attacking stars like Osimhen and Lookman leading the line. Mozambique are making history simply by reaching the knockout stage and will approach this game with confidence and defensive organisation. Despite Nigeria’s dominance in past meetings and expectations to progress, Mozambique’s resilience and belief could make this a tighter match than anticipated, making a draw at full time a plausible outcome under pressure in a knockout fixture.

Nigeria remains the clear favourite against Mozambique, but I will consider a win for the Mozambique side. Despite their 2-1 defeat to Cameroon, they really played a good game. Earlier, they beat Gabon 3-2 and have generally been good offensively, so a risky bet on them would be great value.

The last meeting between these sides (in 2023) was a 3-2 win for Nigeria. Nigeria's last eight matches all had over 2.5 goals.

Nigeria plays open football and is very attacking, not protecting their backs like a typical African team. Mozambique hasn't looked bad in previous matches. I predict they'll score both times; after all, it's the knockout stage.

Just too big a price to skip by, so I'll take this too. 100% record in Nigeria games at the tournament. I do see them winning, and I do see their leaky defence letting one in.
