The bleeding issue (not swearing) that caused the horse to be pulled up last time has presumably been monitored and dealt with. Emma Lavelle has her team running well, and with Harry Cobden you have one of the best jump jockeys in the country. Prior to the bleed the horse had been highly progressive. Better price today, so I am willing to risk a very small wager.

The run-in at Musselburgh does me every time, and I very seldom back a winner here. Gentle Warrior can sometimes be too keen for its own good, but without wishing to sound a little off, Saffie Osborne has great hands on a horse, and they often exceed expectations when she is aboard. It may not be good enough, as there are some fair stayers in this. It is a sharp, weird course, but chances, albeit outside ones.

5 places. Outlaw Peter showed a bit of form when downgraded last time. Still only 10 years old, it can improve again in this veteran series final. Worth £51,000 to the winner, it has stern competition but at its best is a highly competitive racehorse.

Oh my God, this will be tough. A 14-runner, 5-furlong sprint. If it is not a finish of heads, I am a Dutchman (hello, my name is Hans). The horse has had the obligatory wind op. Barron runs two; both have chances. This is a Class 2 race, and the selection is around that level. If fit, it should be thereabouts.

Having watched my nap finish virtually last of 14 yesterday, it is hard to be enthusiastic about one's ability to spot a goer. However, back to the drawing board. Valsharrah is tricky. Owned by one of the Horsewatcher syndicates, you would assume money would come for it if fancied. Cheekpieces on today; tongue-tied last time. Hmm, I don't know. Assuming it shows the improvement demonstrated last time, it has a good chance.
