Not someone I would back regularly at all, Tyrell Hatton makes my shortlist this week. A lot to like about pennsylvannian attempt after struggling in the front round. I think there is a very good chance he finds top 8 with maybe finding 1 or 2 golfers too good.

I'm going to take the talented American Michael Thorbjornsen to go well this week. He has been on leaderboards fairly regularly on pga tour admittedly not the big events but showed up well for a long way in Scotland before fading and maybe this course will suit his striking ability and if putter is hot and chipping holds up. Again reflection of price but not without a chance of 7th or 8th.

Russell Henley was always a brilliant putter but of late he has been quite consistent in delivering decent results. The firm and fast conditions will play to his strengths I think and at 33s he coukd easily be in the mix.

Xander Schauffle is just not quite putting it all together but has shown rounds where he js clearly won of the top players jn the world. He could well click this week with this course and would be no surprise to see him with claret jug on Sunday.

Last 6 major finishes read 12th, 2nd, 59th, 2nd, 30th and 18th. Birkdale is the easiest of the open courses when the weather lays down like it will this week and that in some ways levels the playing field with those that have less links experience / imagination. I think Harris English could go ok and perhaps hit top 10.
