This is going to be tough for South Africa against one of the tournament hosts on their own patch, especially as Mexico have a good side coming into this event. The stadium will be packed and the home crowd loud and partisan. I can only see a win for Mexico, as South Africa only won 5 of their 10 matches when qualifying.

These two sides look evenly matched, and the odds back that up. They will know that a loss in Game 1 will make qualifying very tough, and I can see this game being played out in midfield with very few chances taken. I am tipping the draw.

The layers have Canada in as fav for this match, but Bosnia did well in qualifying and managed to average 2 goals per game. They look well capable of holding the Canadians to a draw.

Canada have not achieved enough for me to take them at odds-on in this match. They face a Bosnian side that look every bit as good as them, and I am taking the Bosnians to get a goal, then see it out for a narrow win.

USA have a pretty good side and will have a capacity crowd cheering them on to an opening win. They should have the measure of Paraguay, who managed to scrape into the tournament with a very low goals-scored record. They do have a good defensive record, though, and may be able to keep the loss down to one goal.

The Swiss were unbeaten in qualification and only conceded two goals. They should have the measure of Qatar, as that side has a very average record in recent games and even managed to lose to Palestine and Zimbabwe. They look outclassed to me.

I was impressed by Morocco in the African Cup of Nations, and I can see them giving Brazil a game in this match. They look well capable of getting a draw to me and may even be up to winning if Brazil have an off day. Brazil's record coming into this event has not been as good as previous years, and they managed losses to France, Japan, and Bolivia on their run-up to it.

Morocco impressed me in the African Cup of Nations. Their whole game endeavour will make them a handful for a Brazilian side that have not really impressed in their run-up to this event.

I wrote off Haiti in several of their qualifiers just because of the turmoil in that country. They proved me wrong and come into this event after winning their qualifying group, and won a recent friendly game against New Zealand 4-0. England could only beat the same side 1-0 a few days ago. They look sure to make it tough for the Scots.

Haiti are not the no-hopers that the odds would suggest in this match. They come into this event after winning their qualifying group, and on recent form in friendlies, they should give Scotland a game. I will take a punt on them nicking an early goal and then holding out for the win.

The Japanese are not big goal scorers, but they are very well organised and do not concede many goals. They won 1-0 against England, Scotland, and Iceland in their last three friendlies, and two of those games were away from home. They may be able to keep the Dutch quiet enough in front of goal to snatch a draw.

This game has draw written all over it. The Ivory Coast huff and puff but have very few ideas in front of goal. They did get a few good results in recent friendlies, but overall I cannot fancy them to get a win in this game against an Ecuador side with similar stats.
