Mathews is a top prospect and is making his Major League debut. Gausman is having a disastrous season, with a 4-10 record. So, even as a risky prospect, I see value in the STL Cardinals' road odds today.

The White Sox won their season opener against the Tampa Bay Rays 6-1, but statistically the Rays have won nine of their last 10 day games at Tropicana Field after a home loss. Furthermore, the White Sox have lost nine of their last 10 day games against American League opponents after a road win. Therefore, I back the Tampa Bay Rays.

The Twins are playing better right now, but tonight they're sending in Matthews, who has some very poor numbers (ERA of 5.21 and a WHIP of 1.32 in his last 19.2 innings). Matthews has also allowed 24 hits and 18 runs against him. In 38 innings on the road, the Mariners' pitcher is much better, in my opinion, tonight. Miller has an ERA of 2.75 and a WHIP of 0.92, and his numbers at home are even better. I'm picking the Mariners today.

The Tigers are the favorites at home, and I believe the Tigers will continue to win after yesterday's blowout victory (13-1). Framber Valdez allowed only one run in his previous game against the Athletics this season, while Jack Perkins has terrible home numbers (ERA 7.41), so I expect the Tigers to win today.
