I make no apologies for going with a short-priced favourite here. On his latest running, "Sax Appeal" is head and shoulders above the rest. Charlie Johnston did his usual trick of dropping him a long way in class to show that he is above this grade. A follow-up here. "Macari" in his penultimate race would be a danger.

A 7 lb rise in the official rating may not stop "Foreseen" here, as he only actually carries 1 lb more than last time. This is another who will probably be a shorter price nearer the off time. He could complete the hat-trick at the main expense of "Rajinoora."

"Lerwick" deserves another chance here. He ran his best race for some time on this course twenty-eight days ago. The race was stronger than the current favourite, "Up the Anti." A bigger danger could be "Trigerman." Lerwick's chance of making the frame here at 4.5 is very good indeed. It may be worth an each-way double with one of the other selections.

"Free Your Spirit" holds all the aces here and really should not be beaten unless another runner sprouts new legs, which is not impossible in this type of race. However, the manner in which he went about his work in the closing stages last time out, it will take something special to beat him here.

"Espona Bay" will be hard to beat here. He may need to get his skates on a bit earlier than he did last time to get his head in front of "Filly Foden." He represented value at 3.00 on his latest run, though that was 77 days ago. His trainer is very shrewd at mapping out targets for his runners. I expect "Espona Bay" to give a very good account of himself here.

This could be a quick-fire double for Gina Mangan. Charlie Mason is extremely consistent, though this is a tough race. Charlie Mason holds all the percentages here. A. W. Carroll has a good record when he brings a horse back to the track in less than seven days.

I have a lot of respect for Fergal O'Brien as a trainer on both codes. "Tuba" has not taken to hurdles as well as his flat form. He is a relentless galloper. The time of his Wolverhampton race was the slowest of the eight races that day, and the time of "Arc Zoosve" at Southwell last time out was the quickest of his eight races. At his current price of 5.50 to finish in the first four, that is very good value.

You cannot get away from Dartrey in this. Even with W. Haggas having the second favourite, who clearly has a small chance on form coming from the yard of the moment, a 12 lb rise since his first win should not stop him. One of only three geldings in the race, the fillies really should not stop him completing a hat-trick of wins. Anything above even money is value.

Joey Ramsden only has a few horses in his care, but they often give a good account of themselves. "Imola" has shown some decent form in stronger races than the current favourite "Showstorm" and may be good value at 3.75.

It is difficult to get away from "First Greyed" here. He showed his well-being last time out. In a competitive event, a 3 lb rise in the official rating should not pose too many problems. He ran in a Class Five race last time where the average in the race was 5.3. He may need to get his skates on a bit earlier with a furlong less to run, but that really should not trouble him.

This is a very poor race. The favourite, "Knight of Magic", really should win this on all known form. However, he has not won in 26 races and even in this contest could be one-paced. It is worth taking a chance with Lady Delila. Iain Jardine often improves horses taken over from other trainers. She had her first run for her new trainer last time and was not disgraced at 10.00. She is well worth a closer look.

There is value here in "Baker Blue" 4.50 to take on the current favourite "Agustus Gloop", though "Agustus Gloop" showed impressive figures last time out. Of the eight races at Newcastle that day, his race was the slowest of the eight. That would not put me off entirely. Neither would the 100 days since his last run, as J. R. Fanshaw can deliver a horse after a break. What makes me like the look of "Baker Blue" is that of the eight races at Southall, his race was the second fastest overall and the fastest of the five 6f races. Out the gate first, he led all the way from the long odds-on favourite, who never looked like catching him. A similar performance will make him hard to beat here. The main danger may come from "Better and Better", who has been highly tried but did not handle the heavy going at Doncaster. Previously he clocked some decent times in decent races. Only seven runners in this, so not worth an each-way risk.

On the face of it, this looks like a straight match between "Midnight Call" and "Secret Road", which is always a dangerous assumption to make. "Secret Road" excelled himself last time out after getting hampered at the start. He finished really well in a good time. That was a marked improvement on his previous three races. His average over their respective last three races favors "Midnight Call", but with "Secret Road" now looking back to his best there could be value even at his low price.

"Colors Of Freedom" has been ultra consistent in her last four races, rating higher than the rest of the field in three of her last four races, with only "Sir Benedict" doing better in his fourth-last race. "Sultan Of Oj" shades her on percentages, but he is not consistent enough to rely on. "Colors Of Freedom" is another I would put in an EWD if there are eight runners or more.

"New Bay Star" is clear top on my ratings. However, we do not know how good "Asia Force" is, being trained by K. R. Burke, he is likely to come on for the run, it is difficult to see "New Bay Star" not making the frame here. He is clearly best on all known form.

As Call Glory won yesterday, the race really should be at the mercy of "Eye Of The Water", If there happened to be 8 runners with Call Glory taking part then "Eye Of The Water" would be a decent one to put into an EWD with another selection, however I would not do that with 7 runners, On my ratings " Eye Of The Water" has the best average in his last 5 races and clearly the best rating last time out, as a10yo this is likely to be his last sprinting season.
