Irish raider who makes racecourse debut. Yard tend to target these Christmas/New Year races, but it's somewhat surprising that they have chosen to come over to Exeter. Was entered in several races in Ireland over the Xmas period. Maybe looking for an easier race. Market taking no chances. Small play.

For a yard that tends to do well around here, and with a crew who are no strangers to winners here, at this sort of price a small each-way poke is where I'll speculate. The yard have been pretty quiet, but they tend to pop up when least expected, more so around these Devon-based tracks. Small each-way interest.

Interesting race. There is that Philip Hobbs runner WESEEKHERTHERE who would trouble all of these if coming back to anything close to his best historical form. The run last time showed promise, and I will be placing a small interest on that one. For my main selection, I'm siding with this Ben Lund-trained 9yo who went close at Tramore on New Year's Day last year. He has got down to a winnable mark, and I like that Shane Quinlan has jumped back aboard after getting acquainted with the horse two starts back. He has the hallmarks of being trained for this race specifically on this reduced mark.

Is 2 lb below that mark when coming 2nd here back in the summer. Cian Cullinan takes off another 7 lb. It shouldn't surprise if this son of Hillstar were to finally get his head in front. Probably more of a more-than-place hope, but that's where we are with this 7yo. Should be competitive if up there with the pace.

An intriguing each-way race, as there are plenty in here that have some level of chance if recapturing some back form now off much lower marks, or horses stepping up in trip and being unexposed over it. It's been some time since this 9yo has shown any level of competitive form and, as a result, she has come down markedly in the weights. Since December 2024 she has run in five handicap races and has been dropped from an evaluated hurdles mark of 116 down to 99. It's risky, granted, but whilst the stable jockey takes off another 7 lb, she just looks too well weighted to ignore in an event of this nature with all the places available. They are persevering with her, and it may pay to keep her in the notebooks for the rest of this season with the mark they have got her down to.

Has the profile of horses that this yard do well with at these early New Year meetings at Fairyhouse. They have a lot of history in preparing such types and targeting these meetings. This 6yo gets in right at the bottom of the weights here and the jockey Hugh Morgan takes off another valuable 5 lbs. It's been 11 months since those runs at Fairyhouse. Takes a chance.

First start over hurdles and is taking on the big guns here. Yard has been very quiet and hasn't trained a winner in over 3 years, but they can get horses to run well around here at Tramore, albeit more so in handicaps, which will most likely be where the future lies with this Dansant gelding. At the prices I'd be taking a small each-way interest that this 6-year-old outruns his 80/1 odds and maybe gets a piece of it in this small field ??" each-way.

Not one to get too heavily involved with in a race of this nature with all the top yards in here. But the yard can get them ready around here in years past and have caused a few shocks in their time. This filly is out of what was a fairly rated Beneficial mare when being trained in the UK some years ago. She has only produced three offspring including this unraced filly. Takes a chance.

This filly is somewhat interesting on that run at Dromhane at the beginning of November. (Video on YouTube.) She was dictating easily from the front that day and was going away again 3f out until sort of jumping the fence too well, and the jockey became unseated in what looked to be a very unlucky unseat. This filly was travelling so well that day that I have to take a shot here in a bumper if she tries to make all. It shouldn't surprise if she were to do so.

I'm potentially in danger of falling off a cliff with this horse. He has no form for this current trainer and also over obstacles. I come back to a run in the autumn of last year at Worcester for Charlie Deutsch. He was going very well until making a mistake. That race was won by some much better-rated types, and I'm pinning my hopes here that coming to Hereford for the first time might suddenly bring some improvement. The current jockey, Ben Poste, rides around here well. He takes a shot.

Taking a shot here with this Jennifer Lynch-trained 4yo who makes a belated racecourse debut today. He is by the sire Gutaifan who, whilst having a very cheap fee, has produced some really good horses. I just think the top two/three in the market are worth taking on in a field like this, and at 80/1 I'd be willing to take an each-way shot on that basis with an unexposed type. The yard did have some success at this meeting in 2023, so I take a shot that they have both their runners at Dundalk today fit and ready.

Trainer Karl Thornton has been quiet of late, but it tends to be best to follow his horses in winter months with regard to speculating, especially around here at Fairyhouse when he has them fit and ready. In fact, he has a bit of history at this particular meeting, so I'll take a shot that we suddenly see big improvement. I'm willing to forgive that debut handicap at Cork last week. He is bred by a shrewd outfit, so this 6yo is most likely to be much better than he has shown so far. His full brother is a winner for Kerry Lee in the UK and is sitting on a mark of 120 over hurdles.

Don't know much about this trainer James William Hannon, but he pulled off a huge gamble at Tramore just ten days ago with a horse punted in from 33/1 into 10/1, which won easily. It had no real form in the book. Going to take a shot here that he pulls off the same feat with this 6yo, who was also previously with the David Murphy yard, just as the horse Bibbraveboy was at Tramore. This will be Hackensack's third start in a handicap. Michael Kenneally jumps aboard for the first time, taking off that 7 lbs. Takes a chance.

It shouldn't surprise if this 6-year-old was to pop up at a price. He is now very well weighted, and the run last time out wasn't too bad given that the jockey McGettigan gave the horse far too much to do by dropping the horse out in last place until late on. He got going too late. Nicola Burns jumps into the saddle today, and hopefully she keeps this one not as far back early on.

Stab in the dark here. Ex-Hannon trained 5yo who is making his debut over obstacles today for Cynthia Woods. Had run a few good races for Hannon recently and has won a few times. I wouldn't be surprised if this type showed something on debut for this yard and possibly got placed. Taking a shot on that basis each-way if the runners go to post. Gets in near the bottom of the weights here and should, in theory, be much better than his current rating if that earlier P2P form from 2024 is anything to go by.
