05:40 Ilia Topuria v Charles Oliveira

Ilia Topuria

Win Fight

200 WIN

@1.25

Win

50

Ilia Topuria is the best fighter currently fighting at 155 lbs. He has incredible boxing, with lethal power and excellent timing, along with elite grappling. All of it is underpinned by supreme physicality, top fight IQ, and finishing instinct. His only real weakness is a tendency to occasionally leave his chin open when he's letting his hands loose. Charles Oliveira is a great fighter and will beat most fighters at lightweight, but he always gets hit. When Topuria hits Oliveira, and when he connects flush, it will be something Oliveira needs to wake up from.

Ilia Topuria KO TKO or Disqualification

Outcome 5-Way

Win

Ilia's power is too much and his boxing is too slick. He will step in, bridge the gap, and land flush on Oliveira's chin. I expect it will be an early KO, and Topuria will probably be proven right, after he said he would KO Oliveira in the first round. But even if it goes longer than the first round, Topuria will still find that KO.
05:10 Alexandre Pantoja v Kai Kara France

Alexandre Pantoja

Win Fight

100 WIN

@1.44

Win

44

For the 125 lb division, Alexandre Pantoja has the following attributes to an extreme degree: grappling ability, submission ability, chin, strength, fight IQ, and heart. Once he gets an opponent to the floor, that opponent is at his mercy. He also has nice kicks, and wild, powerful punches. Kai Kara-France has more power in his strikes, though - he's the biggest puncher in the division. But the gulf in the grappling will prove the difference maker. Kara-France does pose a knockout danger, but Pantoja's chin, skill, and guts will combine to keep him from getting put out. Pantoja might dog it out for a bloody decision, and Kara-France does have great takedown defence, but I suspect Pantoja will finish it on the ground.

Alexandre Pantoja By Submission

Outcome 5-Way

Pantoja is an exceptional grappler and submission artist. Kara-France has great takedown defence, but it won't hold up for the entire fight. Pantoja will get him down to the mat, and from there I think Pantoja will successfully lock in a rear naked choke.
04:10 Beneil Dariush v Renato Moicano

Renato Moicano

Win Fight

50 WIN

@1.91

Lose

-50

Renato Moicano lost to Islam Makhachev because Makhachev was better than every single lightweight in the division at the time. Before the Makhachev fight, Moicano had won 6 fights in a row at the 155 lb limit, with 5 finishes. Each of those finishes came from Moicano's combination of superb ground control, quality ground damage, and brilliant RNC submission ability (4 of those 6 wins came by rear naked choke). Whether it's ground and pound strikes or that brilliant RNC, Moicano is highly dangerous on the ground. Beneil Dariush was a great fighter, but I think he's done and will retire with a loss here. If Moicano can touch Dariush's chin and get him down, it won't matter that Dariush has great jiu-jitsu, because Moicano will be able to get the damage off to stop him. Expect either KO or sub... But a bloody decision for Moicano wouldn't be out of the question.
03:10 Payton Talbott v Felipe Lima

Felipe Lima

Win Fight

100 WIN

@1.57

Lose

-100

Felipe Lima is a real prospect. His all-round game seems very good, with no real weaknesses on show, and his physicality/conditioning seems top tier. He's only had two fights in the UFC, both up a weight class, but he looked very good in both of them. Payton Talbott is a bit of a flashy striker, and does have solid timing and power for 135 lbs. But while Lima is no slouch in the stand up, it's Lima's grappling and submission ability that can make the difference. Talbott just doesn't have the same quality in those areas. There, they're levels apart, and I think Lima will get Talbott in a dangerous position and finish from the back.

Felipe Lima By Submission

Outcome 5-Way

50 WIN

@6.00

Lose

-50

A submission call at 5/1 in this fight has to be bet. Lima has far superior grappling to Talbott, and Lima has real submission ability to go with it. If Talbott can get ragdolled and severely threatened by Raoni Barcelos, and Lima can submit Mohammed Naimov on his debut up a weight class, Lima can absolutely get the submission in this matchup.
02:40 Jack Hermansson v Gregory Rodrigues

Gregory Rodrigues

Win Fight

100 WIN

@1.44

Win

44

Gregory Rodrigues has big power and is not scared to track his opponent down to trade. Jack Hermansson is a very clever fighter and he can use space well. He's also got great cardio. If this fight were 5 rounds instead of 3, Hermansson would have a much better chance - he could fight from outside and keep moving, could lose the first 2 rounds, win the last 3, and win a decision. But here, Rodrigues will be able to land enough strikes to win a decision, even if Hermansson does pick up the third round. A knockout isn't out of the question, thanks to Rodrigues' power, but it's just as likely that Hermansson is smart enough to avoid the biggest shots, and Rodrigues does win on the scorecards.
01:10 Terrance McKinney v Viecheslav Borshchev

Terrance McKinney

Win Fight

50 WIN

@1.62

Win

31

If McKinney wins this fight, I expect he wins it in the first round, either by KO or submission. Incidentally, this card looks to have a higher than usual amount of finishes, and first-round finishes. I expect that's because a lot of decision-merchants have been fighting recently, with the Fight Nights being the place decisioners get fobbed off to, and this pay-per-view is being sold off the back of finishing potential. If there are multiple finishes on the prelims, people will be more convinced to buy the actual PPV. In this fight, Borshchev is a strong striker but has terrible grappling/ground ability. McKinney is so explosive in the first round and has the ability to get Borshchev down and out either through strikes or a submission. But McKinney is a very tricky fighter to back because he's chinny and makes silly mistakes. Win or lose, his fights always finish. So it's a small bet, even though I do expect a first-round finish from McKinney.
00:40 Niko Price v Jacobe Smith

Jacobe Smith KO TKO or Disqualification

Outcome 5-Way

100 WIN

@1.29

Lose

-100

The moneyline for this fight is 1.05. Bet £1 to win 5 pence. That's horrific. This fight is a setup fight, however; Price is getting lined up for Smith to achieve a highlight reel knockout. Smith will be able to knock him out at will, and probably in the first round. I won't be betting the moneyline because that's insane, but I believe it's a matter of time in this fight before Jacobe Smith knocks Niko Price out cold. Smith has too much power and explosion available to him, and he wants to make a statement to prove he's one of the next big things. Price is showing up for a paycheck. KO incoming.
00:10 Jhonata Diniz v Alvin Hines

Jhonata Diniz

Win Fight

50 WIN

@1.25

Win

12

Jhonata Diniz really should win this. He's a huge, thick, ex-kickboxing striker who keeps his chin tucked and (generally) has patience. Alvin Hines is making his debut, and looks to have significantly poorer timing and reaction speed to Diniz. And Diniz isn't some quick guy. I believe Diniz will prove to be the better fighter. If Hines can't help but find himself going second on the regional scene, he'll find himself second against Diniz. And Diniz is no regional heavyweight jobber. He's got some actual quality.

Jhonata Diniz KO TKO or Disqualification

Outcome 5-Way

50 WIN

@1.50

Lose

-50

Could this fight go to a decision? Yes. Alvin Hines could have an incredible chin. Diniz could settle for a convincing decision win. But I don't think that happens. I think Diniz has the timing, power, and sheer thick body mass behind his punches to knock Hines out. And I don't think Hines has the reaction speed, defensive intelligence, or movement to avoid it.
