Titanium Emperor

50 EW

@23.00

Lose

-100

No known front-runner in the field, and I am taking the chance that David Egan might try today. Most of the field re-opposed from the Queen's Vase, and I don't think the race suited Titanium Emperor at all. He belied his odds, though, in finishing 7th, and I am hoping for a similar outcome today. A shorter trip could well be ideal and difficult to pass if seizing the initiative. The balance of form suggests to me he should not be the rank outsider in this field.

Throne Hall

100 WIN

@6.00

Lose

-100

Even ignoring the obvious Hampson/Watson partnership, there are many other pointers that mark out Throne Hall as a decent punt today. Dual course winner unlike anything in the field who have zero, he won a better race 3 starts ago over 2m (1lb higher today). He disappointed at Brighton, but that was over a trip that was unlikely to have suited him these days. If the going firms up, that might be a slight concern (4-14 on Good), but his sire has better proven credentials than all his opponents in today's racing conditions. I think Hampson will try and establish a lead on a horse she knows well, and over a taxing, galloping track and distance, she is unlikely to see many challengers from off the pace.

Whilst all eyes will be on Moore and Fanshawe's favorite, I am hopeful of a big run from Saliko. She has put up decent shows over much shorter trips, but her sire, Kameko, is already showing a liking for the distance in flat handicaps with a win record of 4 from 13. She doesn't have a lot of improvement to find on her maiden runs, and if bounced out of the inside gate by her jockey, she could be difficult to peg back. As the signs are she will stay the distance, she certainly looks good for at least a place.

You have to forgive a ridiculously poor run when Fav last time ("ran flat" according to the trainer) to side with Okavango Delta today. However, if he is on a going day, he has shown he can mix it in this class with a 2L win at Worcester in May and was raised only 4lb for that. Same mark at a track, distance, and going that should suit.

The jockey has piloted Ocean Heights to win 2 from 3, which surely must count for a lot in an apprentice handicap. The gelding was fourth off 81 over a slightly longer trip at this track in August last year and gets in this lower class contest off 69 today. Dace will probably try to make all today and should be difficult to pass.

Had another potential engagement in Ireland but trainer has opted to come here. First run for O'Brien junior having being bought out of Jim Bolger's yard. Not ideally drawn but also he might actually be able to get across early as he is one of the few who have liked to lead in his races so far (Ernst Blofeld is another but is drawn wider still). Finished a length behind Serious Contender on last racecourse appearance in March and that one was runner up in a red hot King George V handicap on Thursday. That race also featured Galveston, placed in the 'Ascot Derby' yesterday but finished 5L distant to Glen to Glen on that occasion. Could be the proverbial 'group horse in a handicap' off 90 today.

Still a bit puzzled why California Dreamer who was second in the Irish 1000 Guineas and beat yesterday's Coronation Stakes winner by nearly 2l is sat at this price this morning. The drop back in trip must be the concern but she has course experience finishing a decent 5th in the Albany last year over a furlong shorter. I am hopeful that the class already shown is enough in what has been a lottery of group 3 in the past.

Whilst its difficult to see the likely fav getting beat, I think Sajir has an exceptional case to finish in the frame. Winner of the Abernant on his last visit to these shores, he had subsequent G2 runner up Lethal Levi a length in arrears. Yes he was well beaten by Topgear last time but that was at 7f, something that Topgear has obviously proven he is better at. I can see Sajir reversing that form today and at the prices represents good value for an each way tilt.

In the UK he has won 6 times from 7 runs, his only defeat being a below par King George third last year. Can't be doing with taking a short price in big field fillies handicap so am hoping Zgharta can cope with the drop back in trip from her last time out victory at Newmarket. That race hints at a touch of class with Understudy who was trounced by 4 lengths runner up in the Ribblesdale yesterday. Lots of distance questions around the value of that form of course, but there is reason to think Zgharta night be better at a mile. Sure to get the trip then and hopefully reward each way investment.

Apparently Zarigana 'could be anything' but the one thing she might also be is well over hyped. If she is dropped in it might be too difficult to find a run against a classy field and a short straight. But enough about the Fav. I am surprised Moore has opted for January, as Exactly had her own fair share of bad luck in the French 1000 guineas awarded to Zarigana - beaten by little more than a length and restrained at the line. Decent price based on all known form.

I am going to go against the supposed red hot thing of a Guineas third dropping back to a sprint and side with Shisospicy. Come a long way after completing a proper sprint hat-trick with a facile win at Churchill Downs. Assuming she has coped with the travel hoo-haa she must have a decent chance of getting close or even beating the favourite. Trainer's one runner here last year was second in the bundle that is the Windsor Castle and he is sure to have learnt plenty from that and booking of Murphy in the plate could be the final piece in the jigsaw.

Support for Green Sense seems to be wilting but sense tells me this is the horse who beat today's favourite a month ago. Signora needs to find the best of 2L which he may well be capable of doing on the back of his debut but Green Sense is also entitled to improve on his close up same class second. There is probably is something unknown lurking to come and beat them both but as it stands Green Sense has the form in the book and at these prices seems a decent each way punt.

I don't think Charlie Appleby ever goes into a contest without thinking he has a chance so I am going to take a punt on the top class combo with Buick. I'd rather not have seen that Masai Moon has been gelded since his Nottingham win but maybe in this case, in this race, that is a positive.

The owners of London Boy, Amo Racing, have had 6 runners in the Norfolk since 2021 and their stats are pretty impressive. 5 of them have been placed and the other one finished 5th, so this is clearly a race that as owners that they like to target. London Boy's form is nothing to get excited about but his sole start at Brighton 10 days ago was a winning one so his well being is assurred. It is reasonable to think that most trainers do not really know how good their 2yo's are until Royal Ascot, so I am taking a punt on the owners here. I nearly forgot to mention that their sole winner from the five places in this contest was Valiant Force two years ago at 150-1. Worth a dabble surely?

A hand-me-down from his dad, Ryan Moore takes the ride on this unexposed type who has clearly been aimed at this event. The Liffey meets so many trends to boot, not least the success of headgear users in this contest - he wears cheekpieces for the first time which is a great sign having been worn by winners of this race 4 times since 2019 securing a huge £75 profit to £1 level stake. Perhaps add Tony Montana for the FC!

Beaten a head by Rosallion in the Irish 2000 guineas last year before winning the Jersey at this meeting. Haatem had been a busy horse up until that Jersey assignement but like Rosallion was not seen again after the Royal meeting until this spring. That run was obviously a stepping stone both in terms of targets and distance as he takes on 10f for the first time. If the injuries have not taken a toll and step-up proves fruitful, Haatem could well be a decent investment today as he faces far less demading opponents than he did last year.

Let's not forget that he was also narrowly beaten by opponents who had a race under their belts whereas Rosallion had been off for the best part of a year. With hindsight 2-1 may prove to be a very generous price.

Cabelleroso has his first run since being gelded today. Trainer Hugo Palmer excels with these types, clocking up a £67.45 profit to a £1 LSP from 170 runners. The horse himself is relatively unexposed and thought good enough to mix it with listed company on the all-weather back in March. That run and his other outing since rank as disappointments, yet he has the hood re-applied today, headgear he wore when putting 3 subsequent winners to the sword late last year. Jason Hart won on him that day and takes the ride again. Being well drawn, there has to be a great chance Cabelleroso will trouble the scorers again, particularly if the market shows signs of moving in his favour.
