This one did actually race better than that 3rd place suggests. Although it was not a truly run race, the finish speed was near 110% for the race and this horse 111.72, which is well above how the others finished. I think with a more honest pace this one could do better.

Well, this is the only true hold-up horse in this race. In a small field, the claimer is generally very good at riding to instruction when all goes well. So, with a good ride, the big rise in the handicap mark will be offset by the claim, but it is still high enough given it has only really won off around 61 and today is still 66. It is a horse that is dependent on the run, so I'm willing to take these odds.

A wide-open race is this one, with the first four all with chances. This one did show improvement at Wolvs once the claimer was used, taking its mark to 78. Today it runs off 77. If we allow for the claim, it’s the only one that has run to its current mark, so it has a chance with a little bit of luck.

Probably not the easiest horse to get right, but has won when ridden correctly, which may be an issue for the claimer today. Connections will also know exactly how it needs to be ridden to get the best. Its current mark with the claim looks generous. There is a lot of speed in the race, so if it can sit just off that it probably has a better chance, as it can quicken when asked.

Maybe a horse that has had some issues but has raced really well on the turf before and has the figures that suggest it could be slightly ahead of the handicapper. It's not really an each-way option, as it either runs really well and has every chance, or it goes to pieces and may not place in a large field.

This horse was quite a late foal and maybe needed time to mature to get the optimal trip, which is today's. It was not disgraced in a Class 2 on the grass last summer, and its best figures have been at the longer trip. So it does look like it can do better today, especially if it gets its own way.
