Friday is often a day for the punters, and it could be a day for JP McManus, who's had a fantastic week so far. Kel Historie makes his handicap debut after being given some tough assignments in Ireland. He's been strongly supported, and a drop into handicap company on good ground should see Kel Historie feature in this race.

Two course wins for Nurse Susan, finishing midfield and fourth in the other efforts. Skelton yard excels in handicaps, particularly at this festival, so it's a surprise to see this selection drift. Good strike rate with six wins from 12 hurdle races, with the most recent in good form. Form has worked out well from the last race at this venue, and she has a strong each-way chance.

The Jukebox Man has been flawless since going chasing, and his finest hour came when digging deep to see off Gaelic Warrior in a three-way photo finish. He showed a liking for this track when just denied by a head in the Albert Bartlett over hurdles. Drying ground is a big plus, and trainer Ben Pauling is having the season of his life; this would top it off. The market rarely gets this race wrong, with favorites winning this more often than not. Strong festival form and looking to go one better, having finished 3rd then 2nd in consecutive years. Versatile ground-wise; won on good ground in Galway Festival. Has to shoulder top weight, but the claiming jockey who ran a cracker earlier in the festival on the 40/1 runner-up is well worth a 5 lb claim. Trainer Gordon Elliott excels in these races.

Sixandahalf was a beaten favourite here last year in the Mares' Novice when touched off by a length. The trainer has had a disappointing season so far but won the cross-country this week and had an excellent last day of the festival this year. Drier ground should suit, judging by form on the flat and over obstacles. Looks dangerous on handicap debut.

Preference here for Minella Study, who would be a fantastic winner for Adam Nicol's yard, bidding for a first Cheltenham Festival winner. Interesting off top weight with claiming jockey taking off 7 lb. Mullins' lesser-fancied runners have picked up his prizes, with the exception of Lossiemouth thus far. Clear winner of a competitive race over course and distance on sole attempt at this venue, beating a handful of subsequent winners. Rallied well last time out, only in a tactical affair in a small field which probably didn't suit. Henry de Bromhead has always managed to pick up winners at this festival in recent years, and this represents one of his best chances on day one to get a win. Golden Ace has benefited when the likes of Constitution Hill, The New Lion, and State Man have faltered or fallen in the last year and in the Fighting Fifth Hurdle. Blow Your Wad was finishing at a rate of knots last time out, and a repeat effort will have a strong each-way chance of returns in this race. Has had a decent career so far as a chaser with 2 wins, 2 runner-up and 2 third-place finishes from 11 runs. Sits nicely in the weights for this one and only finished 5 lengths behind the winner when last seen at this venue. Versatile ground-wise, and the Moore stable, with 2 wins from 9 runs going into this contest, could add to that tally.

Tough opening-day card at Cheltenham to find value, but I will give an each-way shout for The Mighty Celt. The Skeltons have an excellent record in handicaps in recent years, and their juveniles have been in top form this jumps season, so it's interesting they've opted for this as their sole entry.
