Very unexposed for a 10yo but hails from the outstanding yard of Will Biddick. Won 7 from 11 points with 3 times a runner-up. Beat the useful Famous Clermont when seen last month and should be hard to stop here.

The Balding runner comes here without a recent run under his belt compared to a few rivals, but did have a good 2yo season, winning once, runner-up twice and third twice. Likes to get on with it from the front and, if able/allowed to dominate, can win first time up.

Not surprising to see the Willie Mullins runners to the fore in the betting, with Jump Allen catching my eye. Seven starts with three wins and two places tells a story. But the form book states he has not been seen for 321 days. That's not entirely true, as he ran in a flat challenge at Punchestown last month and won. That was obviously a nice prep for this and should show up well.

I am a fan of Faye Bramley, and she runs the ex-Willie Mullins Stattler in this competitive Hunter Chase. Everything suggests a bold show, as he is well in at the weights compared to his mark. All carry 12st, with only five rivals on a higher mark. Stattler's mark is 137, but when you look back at his form he won here at the Festival in 2022 with today's pilot Patrick Mullins on board, with a mark then of 153. That mark, albeit an old one, is by far the best of these, and he can outstay his rivals.

SkyBet have six places on offer at 66/1 so I have had a nibble at that price. The ex-Willie Mullins-trained Glengoully comes here with plenty to prove after being pulled up the last twice, but those were in graded affairs. Prior to those disappointing efforts he did win here in December, again in graded company. Down in class and up in trip today should hopefully make a difference and see him perhaps a little more competitive.

Sam Thomas has a select few in his yard, and this is one of the best. He comes here having won his last four. He has only been over this sort of trip the last twice and won convincingly. He is in here off a nice weight and can make his presence felt.

Not won in 7 starts under rules (did win his only PTP over 24f). Entitled to have needed the run in December on season debut after a 292-day break, but he left that form behind with an encouraging 3rd of 11 in mid January. Was 4th of 15 here 12 months ago in the Turners, which was an eye-catching effort behind The New Lion (3rd in yesterday's Champion Hurdle). Same trip today on handicap debut and gets in at the foot of the weights. Seven places on offer with Sky Bet and hopefully the Henry de Bromhead runner charges up the hill to fill a spot.

The Nicholls No Drama This End holds major claims but is rather short at 11/4, so I'm looking for some each-way value with Ballyfad. I feel there is more to come now he steps up in trip. Not that he hasn't achieved anything already, as he has won two NHF affairs before winning a maiden hurdle and then, better still, a short-head 2nd of 12 in a Leopardstown Grade 1 (all around 16f). I'm hoping the extra distance will see him improve again, as his only point start over 24f saw him win impressively.

As said in my first blog, I'm targeting each-way bets and especially those where we can get some value with either five or six places on offer. Another Faye Bramley runner catches my eye in the lucky last. He has only had three starts for the yard and only nine chase starts. I'm not sure what his best trip is, but he is rated 10 lb lower chasing than his hurdle mark. I'm hoping today's marathon trip and decent ground work in his favour and he can grab a top-five finish.

What a cracking card for day one of the 2026 Cheltenham Festival. I'm firmly fixed on each-way bets this year, and I'm starting off with the ex-Irish, ex-flat, ex-Jessie Harrington 4yo who is now with Faye Bramley. Only had three starts over hurdles and has been progressive since October, culminating with a success at Ascot in January. Harry Cobden rides again, and with six places on offer he can fill one of them.

A very tough Imperial Cup to work out, but with six places on offer it is a good each-way betting heat. I like the Faye Bramley-trained No Ordinary Joe, who does have some back class but hasn't shown too much of it for a while. It was a decent effort when last seen in mid-February, weakening late on, suggesting this drop back in trip can bring about a change in fortune.

The majority here have questions to answer, including my selection. What is in his favour, I feel, is the drop into this company after contesting the Class 2 Bet365 Chase at Ascot in mid-January. He fell on that occasion, too far out to tell if he was going to get competitive. As said, this is easier, being a Class 3 and a Veteran Series affair. He must hold an each-way shout if standing this time.

A wide-open looking Class 5 handicap where Chicago Storm catches the eye. It was 32 days ago when the Daisy Hitchin 7yo was returning to the flat after running predominantly over jumps. He has only had six all-weather starts, winning once, which was over this sort of trip. He wasn't beaten far at Wolverhampton latest, and I have a feeling he could sneak a place.

I do like Popmaster but at a price I'm siding with the Clive Cox trained Kingdom Come. Down into this grade (Class 3) for the first time since April 2023 and it was here finishing 1st of 6 off a 1lb lower than today off a mark of 95. All his runs since have been at Class 2 with a single foray into a Listed affair. Rossa Ryan gets on well with the 7yo and with the Cox yard operating at 50% (in the last 14 days) with a select few winter all-weather runners he can upset the jolly.

Diamond Geezer is a worthy fav after winning over course and distance late last month, but is hit with a 7lb rise in the weights which ma well stop his return bid. My selection is at the foot of the weights receiving 20lb from the jolly. Only 3 hurdle starts thus far placing on each occasion with all around the minimum trip. On all of those starts he was staying on at the business end suggesting this step up in trip could be ideal. With the promise of improvement and receiving all that weight he may well break his maiden tag.

With the yard in form, this looks a decent opportunity for Tommy Pickles to get off the mark under rules. Won a point from two starts and after a promising 3rd of 9 in October when making his debut for Jamie Snowden, he finished a useful-looking 2nd of 8 at Ffos Las, beaten half a length. Joe Anderson makes the task slightly easier with a 3 lb claim and must hold every chance.

Considering it was a run after some time away from the track, Take Your Time ran very well only to get tired turning for home. Harry Cobden decided to ease him down and pull up. That was his 3rd pull-up from his last 4 starts, which doesn't look good. They were all at Class 3 level, so the drop into Class 4 looks positive, as his last win was at this level over course and distance. Hopefully he will lead, and Sam Twiston-Davies can keep him up to his work. With each-way 3 places in a 7-runner affair, I'm hopeful.

I'm hoping the step up in trip will benefit the Ditcheat runner. After two starts since arriving from France, he has looked rather one-paced. 8th of 11 (here at Taunton) on his UK/yard debut, before a better showing when 4th of 12 at Wincanton last month. He did experience very soft conditions in France, and in a weak-looking affair he surely has to go close.
