An open-looking finish on Day 1 of the festival and plenty who appeal, but I like the price of the O'Neill runner at 14s. Certainly got an engine and stamina and yet to go over this extended 3.5m trip. The Cheltenham hill is always make or break, but Hasthing has seemed to take well to fences. Could be a good EW shout for a place.

The yard has been positive about the chances of this one after switching a decent profile from the flat and landing a nice win over hurdles in Ireland. It followed up with two close efforts, including a notebook-worthy finish LTO. Would be surprised if Total Look doesn't make the frame, so another EW price to go at on Day 1.

Can't have the favorite after the last two efforts. Fell LTO and no match for Constitution Hill despite being well-backed. Back against her own sex today, she should do better but is no banker on opening day. Chief threat remains Jade de Grugy, and I would rather be with the other Mullins mare here who looks more progressive than Lossiemouth.

As ever, an open-looking Ultima sees the field and a decent-looking lineup. Victorino just hasn't shown up at Cheltenham for some reason yet, but in this vein of form and at this kind of Each Way price for 7 places, it's well worth a punt to hit the frame. With better ground than last year, my hope is that the Venetia Williams horse can finally show that progressive form here at the festival.

Not surprised to see this price for the Mullins horse on opening day at the festival. Was a banker from early doors for me and got a better price than this a few months out. Won't be beat, guaranteed.

A progressive-looking type who looked a decent sort when runner-up last year in the Champion's Bumper. Made the notebook that day, and I'm glad that there is still an EW price for him. Would be surprised if he doesn't make the frame, so he's going into a placepot banker for me.
