Hasn't won since early 2024. That was a much better race than this off a much higher mark. Signs of life recently with a trio of solid place efforts here in conditions ranging from good-firm to soft. This looks easier than some of those contests with an experienced jockey replacing the claimers of the latest two efforts. First-time cheekpieces on, though as always, hard to gauge if that is a positive or negative.

One of two interesting runners in this race. His 5f form, though scarce, is some of his best and has been fine in better races than this over 6f. Conditions should suit (hampered previous visit here when out the back, so line through it). Yard going well at the moment and looks a little overpriced for a race of this quality.

Not exactly a hidden gem, was well supported in the market when bolting up here on yard debut last time. A 5lbs rise should be easy to shake off, and most of his market rivals today were behind him that day (beaten by more than margins suggest). Historically, he has been an unreliable and expensive horse to follow, but should have enough in hand here to make current odds +EV.

Sometimes the obvious answer is the right one, and that seems to be the case here with Second Fiddle. Unbeaten in three starts for the current yard, the last two over course and distance with a bit in hand. Due to the nature of apprentice handicaps, she is essentially 4 or 7 lbs lighter (depending how you value claim) after a comfortable win and takes on a field of rather mediocre rivals. Odds on currently, but there still seems to be juice in the current price.

Extremely consistent over 6f including when winning here in September and when a close 3rd in a class 2 at Newmarket last time out. Same mark here and eased to a class 4 with J Mitchell taking the ride for the first time (great record for yard). Looks massively over priced and great E/W value at 12/1.

14 runner 0-55 sprint, so the field is about what you would expect. But Sir Benedict looks to be a little overpriced at double-digit odds, having been rewarded for his relative consistency this year with a comfortable win at Hamilton two starts ago. Shaped better than bare result in a much stronger race than this last time out, and back to this level should get much closer. J Fanning back in the saddle is a positive. Draw not ideal and would probably want it a little softer, but I think remains a solid E/W value bet.

Weaker of the two divisions with a couple of interesting runners. First of which is Bellagio Man, who despite his mediocre strike rate, often puts in a good performance over conditions, often in better races than this. Shaped better than result over 7f last time and eased 2lbs. Back to course and distance and down in grade should go much closer and looks good E/W value at double digits.

The second interesting runner in this race is Reenies Dream. The lightly raced 3-year-old has yet to run a bad race in four starts this season. Only raced over 7f and has been fading late, so a drop to 6f could see her go better, as could the first-time headgear. Though that's always a lottery as to whether it makes things better or worse. Looks overpriced at current best odds (11/2), though, given the quality of the runners at the top of the market.

Back to form with a bang on only the second start for this yard when an easy winner over course and distance last time. Used to be much better than this and should be able to shrug off the 5 lbs rise. Favorite but looks to be plenty of value in the current price.

Typical low-grade Southwell handicap with a couple of runners that stand out to me. The first of those being Masterclass, who has run a couple of good 2nds here last year in much better races/off a higher mark. Latest course and distance run best forgiven (stumbled at start). Looked as though had plenty in the tank when closing into 3rd at Newcastle two starts ago under this rider, and if he learned from that and delivers him right, could go better here. Looks good value E/W at 9/1.

The second interesting runner in this race, admittedly a lot more speculative, is My Turn Now who, despite having some wins there, is not particularly well suited by conditions at Wolverhampton, in my opinion, and could improve running over a course like Southwell off a basement mark. Booking of Fallon catches the eye, headgear switched back to visor and looks worth a shot at such long odds. Win only bet preferred given her boom or bust nature.

Yet to show much for this yard but continues to fall down the weights. Was a very impressive winner here two years ago off just 1 lb less and won in similar style at Chepstow last June. Hasn't looked completely hopeless in tougher races over less optimal conditions, and at 14/1, worth a shot that he returns to old form back here. Tudhope up.

Not won for a while and closer to the back than the front in recent runs. Often unlucky in the run but has the ability to take a race of this level if things fall right. Looks a little overpriced, especially on the exchanges at longer odds than are currently available at the bookmakers.

Very consistent sort who got first win of the year in the Ayr Gold Cup last time out. This is slightly tougher but handles conditions well and looks overpriced and good each way value at double digits in a pretty shallow race for the grade.

Extremely consistent this year, following up a couple of nice wins in similar contests with a trio of very solid efforts in much better races than this off a revised mark, proving it's still a workable one. Conditions here should suit her more than most. Eased 2lbs looks good value at 5/1 with Tom Marquand up (bad record for yard but obviously a good jockey).

Competitive handicap, but the outsider of the party, Loom, looks interesting from a value betting perspective. Has been running with credit, often shaping better than the bare result in much better races than this. Now dropped in grade and eased to a mark of 85, looks as good as the principals, if not better, and seems overpriced and good each-way value at double digits.

Put in the best effort of the season when winning at Chepstow last time out. Nudged up just 3 lbs and conditions here are likely to suit better. The course was running a bit too fast for him when down the field in the race last year. Looks good each way value at double-digit odds.

Pretty shallow contest here, as has been the case with a lot of high-grade sprints this season. But of the classy horses in the field, Rage of Bamby looks the most value. Back to form in great style, winning a Group 3 here over 6f in July before two solid efforts in better races than this, latest a Group 1. Drop to 5f should be no issue, especially with the soft ground likely working in her favor. Looks a solid value bet at 11/2 given her market rivals are not at their best in these conditions.

Very consistent in better races than this and will relish today's conditions. Running in a class 5 handicap for only the second time (the first was a win last April off 2 lbs more). Not too much competition for the lead and most of his rivals here will have a hard time reeling him in.

Was in great form in these kinds of conditions last summer. Form tailed off a bit since, but took a step forward from a very poor seasonal debut when fading late over 6f last time out. Drop to 5f and eased another 2lbs, both positives, and anything close to previous best should be enough to take this.

Very speculative pick, and if I could tip both picks each way, I would. But it is unbeaten over 5f and gave a very good showing in a class 2 at York two starts ago. No show up to 7f last time out in headgear, best ignored, and today's conditions could see a much better run from a horse who has plenty of ability when everything falls right. Yard picking up some form recently. Dangerous to write off at such long odds, imo.

Maiden who put in two very good efforts back to back over 6f in August, getting to the front and tiring late. Those were significantly stronger races than today, races off the same mark with the drop to 5f likely to suit. Looks to have his rivals outclassed here and at 5/2 seems great value.
